She’s a bit of a crush of mine.

I’ve always loved her writing. But this week she wrote this about 80s movies which is so good.

www.theguardian.com/film/2018/mar/27/1980s-favourite-film-decade-top-gun-stand-by-me-hadley-freeman

She’s been all over the anti-Semitism protests and other issues.
And now she has articulated what I’ve been trying politely to say for ages about the Self ID issue.

Please have a read! Then if she’s convinced you sign the petition.

If she hasn’t feel free just to ignore or talk about 80s movies here, or general women-journalists-who-rock, or your own inappropriate crushes.

Brilliant article. Sensitive, well reasoned, logical, well informed.

Tinycitrus · 31/03/2018 10:01

I have a girl crush too...

Floisme · 31/03/2018 10:08

Hey I loved her first Grin

She's been on fire this week.

PavlovaPrincess · 31/03/2018 10:11

Yanbu

I only discovered her last week with her Instamums article but I've since read a few others and now I want to buy her book.

Floisme · 31/03/2018 10:14

She made me cry when she wrote about her miscarriage. But then the next week she'll switch to shoes or face cream or films.

She's awesome when she's angry though and today's piece - about men telling women how to be better feminists - is one of the best I've seen on the subject.

JennyHolzersGhost · 31/03/2018 10:16

Given the Guardian’s editorial stance on this issue to date, I can only imagine that much of her criticism of ‘woke’ liberal bros is directed at her own newsroom.

ArkAtEee · 31/03/2018 10:19

You will love her book, 'Life Moves Pretty Fast', about movies. I think she's great too.

ByTheSea · 31/03/2018 10:20

Been a fan for years.

Tinycitrus · 31/03/2018 10:21

I can’t argue with anyone who loves Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

What a brilliant film.

TheHauntedFishtank · 31/03/2018 10:22

YANBU, she’s bloody brilliant.

Tinycitrus · 31/03/2018 10:24

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I do have a test today, that wasn't bullshit. It's on European socialism. I mean really, what's the point. I'm not European. I don't plan on being European, so who gives a crap if they're socialists. They could be fascist anarchists and it still doesn't change the fact that I don't own a car.

Pure gold

NoSquirrels · 31/03/2018 10:26

There’s another book too from a few years ago about fashion The Meaning of Sunglasses.

Excellent article.

AskBasil · 31/03/2018 10:35

Great article.

I bet Little Owen is tantruming over his cornflakes.

yetanothertranswoman · 31/03/2018 10:38

It's a good article.

Interesting timing to publish it on Transgender Day of Visibility.

NoSquirrels · 31/03/2018 10:38

She iis getting a MASDIVE amount of flak on Twitter, as is the Guardian for publishing it. Because it is “anti-trans”.

But it’s not. Read the article and point to the anti-trans phrases? I can’t. It perfectly mirrors my position and I am inclusive of trans people.

It’s so important we get a voice and journalists like Hadley should be treasured. I hope her bosses in the newsroom know it.

Stormwhale · 31/03/2018 10:38

Absolutely brilliant. How can anyone argue with that? I have already signed the petition, I just wish I could sign it again!

TanteRose · 31/03/2018 10:42

Yep fab article.
And I agree, it's NOT anti-trans.

Can't people read properly?

KERALA1 · 31/03/2018 10:44

Ooh well done Hadley. Always read her column will now make a point of buying her books. Extra Easter egg for you my dear

NoSquirrels · 31/03/2018 10:45

From Twitter:

Very sad to see Guardian today using #TDOV as an opportunity for Hadley Freeman to suggest, again, that trans women are something other than women.

Really wondering who at @guardianopinion thought it was appropriate to publish a @HadleyFreeman anti-trans piece on #TransDayOfVisibility solidly demonstrating how white cis woman always HAVE to be the centre of 'feminism' even on days specifically allocated to others

Vile anti-#trans hate-screed by @HadleyFreeman. Co-opting the Metoo hashtag and praising the transphibicly abusive Mumsnet. She also spreads deliberate disinformation about the reform of the Gender Recognition Act. The @guardian should be better than this

It goes on.

Sad

Must say I can’t stand her personally but that doesn’t mean you (or I) are unreasonable. Everyone entitled to their own views etc

MissionItsPossible · 31/03/2018 10:48

Is she the one who wrote the article ages ago about Myleene Klass, mocking her claims that she’d been touched inappropriately by a Hollywood mogul, downplaying her claims as ideas above her station and was eventually revealed to be about Harvey Weinstein? It was definitely a female writer from The Guardian.

NoSquirrels · 31/03/2018 10:50

I don’t know Mission - sounds unlikely? But if you can find a link?

OP posts:
bbcessex · 31/03/2018 10:50

I think she’s brilliant too - insightful & measured.

These couple of paragraphs from her article pretty much sum up my response to the gender equalities act issue far my succinctly than I ever could.

I apologise to Hadley and stand corrected. It was Marina Hyde from the Guardian
