Aibu to ask about your 30th birthdays?
Im going on a big holiday which were saying is for my 30th but that's not for 5 months after due to the event i want to see (without being too outting!)
But im wanting to still make my 30th special as i had a miserable 21st and 18th. Wondering whether you had any special gifts etc? I have a spare few hundred coming around that time so considering a special item of jewllery or something.
So if you wouldn't mind please share your 30ths
Thanks

I gave birth to DS2 on my 30th birthday. But I was back home by lunchtime drinking champagne Grin

Aprilmightmemynewname · 30/03/2018 10:13

8 months pregnant on my 30th!! Wasn't planning on doing anything but won a meal for 2 on a radio competition!!

AnnaleeP · 30/03/2018 10:14

Went to the pub with a bunch of mates and my then bf (now DH). Not really into doing 'big stuff' for birthdays. An item of jewellery or a watch sounds nice. Got DH a nice watch for his 30th.

DesignedForLife · 30/03/2018 10:17

3 months pregnant, spent most of it being sick, but did manage a nice meal out with friends.

iklboo · 30/03/2018 10:22

After a nasty break up from a long term abusive relationship I'd recently joined a hobby group so invited a few new friends round to mine for pizza & drinks. DH (who was still just a friend then) bought me a box of wine and a singing Chef from South Park air freshener. Still have it.

I had a bloody good time.

SilverHairedCat · 30/03/2018 10:23

Two friends and I went to Dublin for the weekend. Flights and hotel cost us £50 each from Southampton!

Castieldeansam · 30/03/2018 10:25

My 30th birthday, did nothing, loved it. Had other milestone birthdays which have been celebrated but not for my benefit, but for my friends/family benefit. I have never got the whole big party/celebration/milestone birthday thing. Never had big presents either. Sorry to be of no help. Hope you have a great birthday.

mailfuckoff · 30/03/2018 10:26

Went to New york with friends and had a party at home. Dh was going to get me a tattoo but I can't decide what to get so I haven't had that gift yet. 30 was a fair few years ago for me as well

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 30/03/2018 10:28

Went to a gig for my 30th with a group of friends. For my 40th DH and I left our small children with my dad and went to a hotel for a good night’s sleep. It was bliss. Grin

Hired a pink hummer limo, got very pissed on rose wine while it drove around and then went for dinner. I'm not classy.

Flew to Chicago a week later, that was great :)

Ponocky · 30/03/2018 10:32

I had my first baby 2 weeks before my 30th. I was so sleep deprived by the time my birthday arrived that I'd completely forgotten about it. Spent all day indoors with baby on my own and my family came over and gave me lovely gifts and cake that evening once they'd finished work.

ComtesseDeSpair · 30/03/2018 10:33

I hired out a bar and had a big party and 162 people turned up. Only a couple of years earlier, I'd have doubted 5 people would come; so it was pretty significant in that sense, as much a celebration of my new life as my 30th.

Gifts wise, my parents bought me a piece of artwork I'd been admiring for years, and I bought myself another piece. Friends bought me books and wrote inside the covers. I'll have them all forever - so good gifts.

x2boys · 30/03/2018 10:36

I went to Glasgow for the weekend with my sister and some friends I was single at the time and pre children.

TeachesOfPeaches · 30/03/2018 10:38

7 month's pregnant. Couldn't be bothered to do anything.

rumblytummy1 · 30/03/2018 10:40

Had a joint party with my bf in a bar in soho. The DJ new the local firemen so there were loads of fit men. We must have had about 200 people, IT was fantastic.

40th, 8 months pregnant so had a cake at home.

I am going to make up for it on my 50th I'm going to make up for it. (Maybe even invite some firemen again!!)

KitKat1985 · 30/03/2018 10:41

Hmm, mine wasn't brilliant. I was on maternity leave and DH forgot to book the day off work, and most of my family / friends were either working or had appointments. I met a couple of mum friends at soft play and they very kindly bought a cake along.

DH had asked in advance what I wanted as a present, and I said either a nice day out or a mini break or something. On the day he gave me an 'IOU a day out' voucher, so basically had planned nothing. Hmm He couldn't understand why I was pissed off.

For context, for his 30th I took him on a mini break to New York.

Schlimbesserung · 30/03/2018 10:42

For my 30th I got nothing. Not a card, not a present, nothing. I was really upset that my parents, husband and everyone else in my family just ignored it. They didn't forget, they just couldn't be arsed.

PavoReal · 30/03/2018 10:48

I was working in Japan at the time, and they never let you have time off except when they told you could. I phoned in sick fully expecting to get sacked later, got a bullet train to Kyoto and had a few mad days in that region with 3 friends. Still my favourite birthday ever. Have a good one when it comes round OP!

C8H10N4O2 · 30/03/2018 10:50

One of mine was due on my 30th. Actually turned up nearly two weeks late. I spend my birthday feeling like a beached whale, nine months pregnant in a hot Summer!

Just do something you would enjoy and wouldn't normally pay for.

Sometimes creating the expection of "super special" sets you up for disappointment.

Cirrys · 30/03/2018 10:54

@Schlimbesserung that's awful!

Nobody cared about my 30th either, but that's because I had nobody. I was single and unemployed with no friends. My mum brought me a nice wine glass and a bottle of wine which I drank on my own while crying.

ForgotthegoodnameIcameupwith · 30/03/2018 10:56

Went to see Les Mis on my 30th, part of two days in London - DH bought the tickets (and a lovely necklace), parents paid for the hotel - saw various friends there and did touristy things. Got back home on Friday, picked best friend and boyfriend up from the station, out for dinner, then BBQ and pub on Saturday. I got four amazing days out of it Grin

FlatTopVera · 30/03/2018 11:01

I was 8 months pregnant with 2 toddlers. DH bought me a —shit— CD and went out.

We split up the following year.

TinDogTavern · 30/03/2018 11:02

I was single too. Had a colossal party, everyone got hammered and I shagged one of my colleagues.

Awkward. BlushGrin

Aria2015 · 30/03/2018 11:07

I was spoilt, lovely holiday, jewellery and a party (which I threw and paid for). I didn't do anything big for my 18th (was just chuffed j could legally drink!) or my 21st (day trip to London) so wanted to do something special. It's my most memorable birthday and I loved every minute! So glad we splurged! I think it's nice to have a special gift too as you have a keepsake to mark the occasion.

borlottibeans · 30/03/2018 11:08

I had no money, work was stressful, and I was spending most of my free time banging my head against a brick wall on a political campaign, but a group of friends who all lived a fair distance away travelled down to us for the weekend to celebrate. We didn't do anything out of the ordinary - a long walk, a meal out, etc etc - but it was a lovely relaxing break from everything else going on in my life at the time, surrounded by lovely people, and it remains a landmark in birthday celebrations.

Thank you for reminding me - I hadn't thought about it recently and it's put a big smile on my place. Smile
