Aibu to ask about your 30th birthdays?
Im going on a big holiday which were saying is for my 30th but that's not for 5 months after due to the event i want to see (without being too outting!)
But im wanting to still make my 30th special as i had a miserable 21st and 18th. Wondering whether you had any special gifts etc? I have a spare few hundred coming around that time so considering a special item of jewllery or something.
So if you wouldn't mind please share your 30ths
Thanks

Ds2 was two weeks old and I spent the whole day breastfeeding while ds1, who turned two the week before, complained bitterly about being bored. Dh bought me a cake and chopped it into tiny pieces so I could eat a huge amount with just one hand.

I had a tea party at home for our friends on my 30th, mainly as a few friends (well, DH's) had babies and toddlers, so we wanted to accommodate them. As it turned out after I fixed it, I was a few weeks pg with DD on the day, so was good that it was a non-booze-heavy option!

Watching little kids rush around our hallway, DH said to me 'Oh my God, this is our future' both happy and a bit intimidated as we realised that parties were going to mean this sort of thing from thereon in.

I can't remember any of the presents I got, to be honest.

Gillian1980 · 30/03/2018 17:07

I had a party in a pub with a live band. It was good fun.

I don’t usually do much for my birthday, just a takeaway or something, but I did parties for 18, 21 & 30.

Gillian1980 · 30/03/2018 17:09

Oh and no particularly significant gifts. The usual nice things - flowers, chocolate, bottles of wine etc. I was single then - my now DH would have bought me nice things if he’d been around.

MimsyBorogroves · 30/03/2018 17:21

A few weeks after having DS2. I sat on the sofa and breastfed all day. Had no idea 30 was a "big" birthday.

GreyGardens88 · 06/05/2018 21:37

omg I love that story auditqueen! My 30th is next week, I'm going out with my best friend who's birthday is also on the same day, then I'm flying to Rome on my own the day after for 5 nights. Maybe I'll meet a hot italian when I'm there lol

Nichelette · 06/05/2018 21:52

Had the week off work, got engaged 3 days before my birthday. DH took me away to a lovely hotel in my costal uni town with afternoon tea and spa treatments, then had a surprise dinner with my family on the actual day. Got very emotional about how lucky I was!

corythatwas · 06/05/2018 22:13

I was recently married, new in the country, dh gave me a box set of music and I took the day off (working from home) and listened to it after he'd gone to work. I suppose I must have been a bit lonely but I remember it as a happy day.

Allthewaves · 06/05/2018 22:19

I went for a meal with dh

ilovepixie · 06/05/2018 22:42

I can't remember what I did for my 30th! For my 40th had a family meal and went on the Belfast big wheel. Will be 50 in July and we're going to Benidorm

Keepittenten · 06/05/2018 22:45

Felt rubbish as I was coming down with a cold. Got to my parents in pyjamas. Massive chocolate cake, as I do love my chocolate...only I couldn’t even stand near it to cut it without feeling queasy...repulsion to chocolate? Feeling tired?
Yes, I found out I was pregnant with DD the next day on NYE.
The aversion to chocolate happened with each subsequent pregnancy.

mummabubs · 06/05/2018 22:52

@Schlimbesserung That's horrible.

It was my 30th a few days ago, my hubby and my family sent card/gifts which was lovely. My in-laws on the other hand didn't contact me at all, received nothing from my SiL's side and my MiL send me something 3 days late which included the receipt showing that it had been bought on the afternoon of my birthday. Don't get me wrong, I'm not grabby and didn't expect huge gifts or anything, but such a big fuss was made of SiL's 30th a couple of weeks before mine that we all went on holiday for it (which we could barely afford but still went for her). Just felt like a real afterthought/no thought at all which is hurtful.

I spent my 30th just with my little baby and actually felt fine at not doing anything big.

Flaskfan · 06/05/2018 22:52

Naff all. I'm a December baby anyway, but had 3 month old bsby and a cold. Didn't care at the time, but want a party for 40th as babies have led to more friends.

MatildaTheCat · 06/05/2018 23:00

We had a party at home. We had two pretty young dc and a new extension which we were just so happy with. All done on a shoestring.

That was 23 years ago and it was happy. Didn’t cost much at all, I can’t even remember what I wore. Stuff got so much more complicated since then.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 06/05/2018 23:03

I had not long had my fourth baby so didn't really do anything.

elQuintoConyo · 06/05/2018 23:10

18th: family dinner at a Harvester Grin

21st: total non-event.

30th: went to Venice for 3 days with (now-) DH.

40th: tea and cakes in my garden with a few friends. 2.5yo potty training DS peed on a friend's foot Blush

44th birthday was 2 weeks ago and we climbed up a mountain to see a waterfall with now 6yo and dog - and DH! I made my own chocolate cake which had bunting on it! Total Pinterest cake Grin just for us 3. Many many people forgot my birthday, but that's ok, it happens when you get older.

Enjoy your birthday whatever happens.

Daifuku9 · 06/05/2018 23:57

Definitely do whatever will make you happiest! Happy birthday!Cake

No special gift for me, my then husband didn’t want to be bothered, and begrudgingly took me to dinner. He made sure to add, afterward, “Fuck your birthday, everyone turns 30.” Because I dared to be upset at his attitude and treatment of me.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 07/05/2018 02:33

I planned a big party, booked a room, disco, catering for a nice buffet, invited 150ish people, and only 12 came :(
I have never attempted a party/gathering of any kind since.
I also had an exam on the morning of my 30th was a mature student at uni and it was a nightmare.
The only redeeming feature of the day was the 3.5 litres of Jack Daniels I received as gifts from various people - I ended up in the students union bar, with a straw, sobbing pathetically on my own... Grin
Yours will be better! Let's face it, it could hardly be worse! My birthday is the 13th of the month and I have had so many disasters and disappointments over the years that I have become superstitious about it...

WilyMinx · 07/05/2018 03:29

Mine fell on a Saturday so husband and I jetted off for a long weekend at a beach resort. Didn't receive any cards, gifts or even texts because not a lot of people know or remember my birthday (it's not on FB for one thing). I will probably go away for my 40th too, this time with a kid in tow.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/05/2018 03:38

Dumped crappy exH, travelled around the world. I think I was drunk on a beach in Asia...

Life has been excellent since then.

steff13 · 07/05/2018 03:38

I bought a house.

nokidshere · 07/05/2018 03:48

It was 27 yrs ago - I can't remember what I did last week Grin

CheekyChinchilla · 07/05/2018 06:35

Went for a nice meal with my husband and parents for my 30th. Got a lovely sculpture as a gift, which I still love. Think I might have gone for a meal with friends a few days later. Significantly better than my 40th, which was totally shit. I did get a nice piece of jewellery from my parents, but my husband gave an utterly crap gift which was completely thoughtless and got returned the next day. He did say he’d make it up to me, but it never happened. I don’t live near any friends or family now, so no night out or anything as there was no one I could invite. I’m giving up on birthdays.

Minniemountain · 07/05/2018 07:31

Had a big meal, trying to please everyone else. The whole thing was disappointing. DH and DF both gave me pearls, which was lovely.

40th this year, I'm taking the actual day off work and going for a long walk then DH and I are going to Rome for the weekend.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 07/05/2018 07:33

Not much, we couldn't afford it. I had a chocolate birthday cake! 🎂
