What Facebook memes annoy you?

The Ines that really piss me off lately are the ones with a caption like "have you seen my sister? Here is a recent pic" and it will be a pic of a chimp or something. It's just not funny at all.

Coming second place are the "I am a woman, I am a warrior" type shite with a picture of a woman descending into a forest.

Third place "I may not be an angel, but I'm honest and will have your back" - often with a picture of a couple hugging.

4th place - a picture of an old dog with the caption "I bet I won't even get one share ... "

And finally "I know 99% of you won't care enough to repost this but I bet I can guess which of my friends will"

I know I could block these people etc but sometimes even the most sane of friends will repost this shit!

If you share then bill gates will donate towards a child with 2 heads and 4 arms to have an operation.
Say amen
My grandad is 120 and doesn't think he will get one share.

ShweShwe · 29/03/2018 22:58

I've had a shocking spate of "Repost to show that someone is always listening" #suicide prevention or some such hashtag. I don't understand why people do it. Can anyone explain?

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 29/03/2018 23:02

Most of them annoy me but particularly those passive aggressive "I bet 99% of people won't post this but...." ones. Just EFF OFF my internet, OK?

PennyPIckle · 29/03/2018 23:04

All of them! Of course we all hate our daughters if we don’t share a meme to say how wonderfully talented/beautiful/ handsome they are. And of course if we don’t share a meme saying how much we hate cancer we must love cancer right? 🙄

The one that really pisses me of is the ‘Bring back the golliwog” - then follows a load of ignorant posters relaying how much they loved their childhood golliwog and how it’s now stored lovingly in the loft. Along with “I collected all the golliwog badges from Robinson’s jam jars” Well fucking bully for you!

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 29/03/2018 23:06

ShweShwe I guess the suicide hashtag ones are there to remind people there is someone out there if they feel low and need to talk to someone. I think that is a good thing, definitely, but I get ticked off by the way they tell us to repost etc....I would much rather post a link to the Samaritans or MIND or something, or TimeToChange campaign. That way people at least have a number to call. I just hate the whole "repost" thing. I can never be bothered. I care about my friends and if any of them is feeling suicidal or depressed and messaged me about it I'd want to support them somehow but I just am so sick of this chain letter, even if it is a good cause. And mental health is something I care passionately about.

MsGameandWatching · 29/03/2018 23:08

I've come off FB this week. I used it a LOT. Honestly I feel like I have closed a big window when it was horribly noisy outside and now it's all quiet and peaceful. It feels amazing.

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 29/03/2018 23:08

PennyPickle I did love the Robinson's golly when I was a three year old child. Then I grew up and learned about racism and the context of the golly and realise I was raised ignorant. I feel a bit Hmm about those who say bring back the golly. I guess they entitled to their opinion but it is not one I can share.

CruCru · 29/03/2018 23:10

I hate the ones with a picture of a sick baby / child / porcupine and a "Like" is a prayer for that child. Usually the picture has been ripped off from somewhere else and the parents have not consented to have the picture shared. Or there is something else that is wrong with the child (other than cancer) and the person who created the meme just picked the most upsetting photo they could find.

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 29/03/2018 23:11

MsGame I do not wish to delete mine but I am using it less and less and would much prefer to just use it to connect with friends. I have no apps or iphone so I do not have to put up with constant bombardments on stupid newsfeed updates on stuff I don't care about. I love my friends (at least when I am in a more social mood) but I cannot be arsed to wade through their endless posts on things I care nothing about.

OneMoreFrog · 29/03/2018 23:19

There is a real false sense of self on Facebook, I am strangely addicted to it but I do wonder what it does to me and society psychologically - I mean everything on there is the best of your self - pictures smiling (before/after an argument) etc...all the real parts of life cut out...the memes are just another thing - mass herding for everyone to 'like' the same mundane message that by and far is meaningless....

Bippitybopityboo · 29/03/2018 23:20

Just why?!

MidniteScribbler · 29/03/2018 23:24

Everytime there is a national holiday there is total bullshit posted by some people. Anzac Day is coming up and the one that always does the rounds is 'the Australian government is going to tone down the Anzac Day celebrations because it offends Muslims. Share if you think this is a disgrace and our ancestors fought so we could celebrate this day'.

Fuck the fuck off.

The only good thing is that it means I can do an annual friends list cull and weed out the fuckwits.

KichenDancefloor · 29/03/2018 23:29

Maybe controversial, but missing kid photos

  1. If it's not from the police, how do you know it's genuine? I can't believe how many people share a random photo on the say so of an internet stranger. What if that child vulnerable and the person looking for them wants them to come to harm? Then you have a gang of internet drama llamas perhaps assisting (eg) an abusive family member. It is a child protection nightmare.
  1. If it really is a missing person, at least check the effing date and the original post which often says 'found safe and well'. Leanne may well have been missing after school in 2009 in Australia but she's fine now, Aunty Betty in Hastings in 2018.

It's all done for the personal gratification of the poster, not the wellbeing of the child. There are very few genuine exceptions.

llangennith · 29/03/2018 23:33

People who are “feeling blessed”. Really??!!!

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 29/03/2018 23:58

I think the identity politics type memes are so boring. The assumption that minority groups (LGBT etc) cannot speak up for themselves and so there have to be memes about being "allies" for them. I am all for not being homophobic or racist etc but why is the onus on the rest of us to be "allies" and post memes? It is the expectation that we need to be fighting peoples' battles all the time which I am sick of. Calling out racism and homophobia etc are fine but I just hate the burden being on the whole public to post memes about how oppressed people are. The best allies are the people who themselves are suffering from discrimination- they know best what they need/want.

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 29/03/2018 23:59

I mean for me, FB is kind of a social thing. It is my space to be shallow and fun etc. my downtime. don't wanna hear about missing kids etc in my downtime

YolandiFuckinVisser · 30/03/2018 00:01

DS's girlfriend posts lots of memes, they're all weird as fuck though, stuff about eating Tide capsules came up a lot recently. She is 16 though, and a bit of an emo.

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 30/03/2018 00:02

Oh and I don't need to read about how the drinking water in the US is being poisoned by flouride etc. The world and His wife do not need to read about it either. Or how vaccines are evil (don't get me started, am on a ranty roll as it is LOL)

IpeedInthePoolImSorry · 30/03/2018 00:03

Yolandi I am pretty sure the Tide thing was fake news. Like the hamster down the aeroplane loo, or the Pop rocks and coke thing.

liz70 · 30/03/2018 00:14

Share if you're yet another fuckwit who's forgotten how to even type words and sentences, never mind write them.

^^ Give it another few generations…

falsepriest · 30/03/2018 07:40

Not RTFT but easily it’s the...

“Facebook wants this photo banned, share before... etc.”

Almost exclusively some racist bollocks.

Robin233 · 30/03/2018 08:05

Left fb 2 years ago after 6 years.
Never looked back.

NotTakenUsername · 30/03/2018 08:13

This one annoyed me. In fact it made me very angry. The only thing that made me more angry was the ignorance shown in the comments below it.

People should have a regular cull of Facebook. Would help to weed out this crap.
