HELP! Dd has accidentally bought me a penis candle!

aimeeniamh59 · 23/03/2018 09:30

Dd in year 9 got back from her French exchange in Paris yesterday - she bought presents for me, Dh and both her siblings.

One problem - she bought me what she thought was an innocent Eiffel Tower candle. It clearly isn’t.

Should I break it to her?

Somehow I am reminded of the following anecdote about the wife of a former french president.

Lunching with English friends at the time of her husband’s retirement, Madame de Gaulle was asked what she was looking forward to in the years ahead, ‘A penis!’ she replied without hesitation. The embarrassed silence that followed was finally broken by the former president. ‘My dear,’ he murmured, ‘I think the English don’t pronounce the word quite like that. It’s 'appiness'.'

This is a brilliant thread! I actually belly laughed at the OP.
Bless your daughter. In Y9 that is exactly the dozy sort of shit I would have done!
I'm a bit more educated these days.

WinstonlovesJulia1984 · 23/03/2018 10:18

You say your daughter is in Year 9 - that's age 13/14 right? And still so sweetly innocent! Or does she know very well what she's bought and is having a larf with you? Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 23/03/2018 10:21

Milanno, I agree. It's not amusing it's embarrassingly contrived.

PieAndPumpkins · 23/03/2018 10:22

Cringe. Just burn it though?? No need to embarrass your daughter.

Shednik · 23/03/2018 10:22

I wouldn't have known that was a penis at 14. My 11 year old wouldn't now.

Those of you sneering and making 'hmmm' faces, do you know how irritating you are?

diddl · 23/03/2018 10:23

"It's not amusing it's embarrassingly contrived."

I think linking to a sex toy was the giveaway?

aimeeniamh59 · 23/03/2018 10:24

I’m certain she doesn’t realise what it is.

She’s the sort of kid who gets uncomfortable if we’re watching TV together and there’s kissing, so there’s no way she would do something like this as a joke.

billybagpuss · 23/03/2018 10:24

I don't actually think the 2 Eiffel Tower candles look that penisy, the head maybe, but that'll be gone by morning if you burn it tonight. I'd say nothing and as a pp said laugh about it later.

mummmy2017 · 23/03/2018 10:24

She knew.
There is no way after sex ed she doesn't know..
At the age she is have a laugh with her over it.
It is a great way to have a private in joke with her. As when she is dating you can tell her not to play with any candles....

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 23/03/2018 10:28

She may not know but her mates probably do. Although it does happen. Had a school friend in yr10 who discovered we'd been giggling at her keyring with three fake jewels dangling from it. Two round, one longer. Exactly like a penis and two balls.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 23/03/2018 10:28

Shednik, I'll take irritating over thick any day of the week. Ok, you might not know what a penis looks like but, how would you not know what the Eiffel Tower looks like?

And if you really didn't, would you broadcast your ignorance?

AbsolutelyCorking · 23/03/2018 10:35

I wouldn’t have thought that at 14! So not unbelievable to me. Just light it OP.

SouthWestmom · 23/03/2018 10:36

Shednik op hasn't actually shared alleged penis candle. So not sure how you wouldn't know it was a penis? Op posted a sex toy and other people have posted candles.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 23/03/2018 10:49

Eh.

Today's yoof are considerably better informed about anatomy than our generation. They have the internet and smart phones.

tolerable · 23/03/2018 10:52

op- if its similar to the one in pic you posted, to be honest,i dont think its that cock-obvious..light it so is more eiffel than whanger. x lbless.ha!x

Trinity66 · 23/03/2018 10:53

Grin just light it until the top part burns down and know one will ever know

Queenofthestress · 23/03/2018 10:56

I once bought my dad boobie shaped salt and pepper shakers because I knew my mum would hate them, I think my brother has them now haha

kimanda · 23/03/2018 11:32

Come on OP, are you seriously trying to convince us that a year NINE student doesn't know what an erect penis looks like?

kimanda · 23/03/2018 11:33

Agree with some posters that the OP appears to be trying to get a thread into 'classics.'

your 14 yr old thought it was the Eiffel tower? really?

OneStepSideways · 23/03/2018 11:56

That's the sort of thing I'd have done in Year 9! I didn't see a penis in real life until I was much older so I wouldn't have recognised a phallic candle! I think you'll embarrass her horribly if you tell her. Just burn the tip a bit Grin

Could be a brand new account, and the poster is unable to post a pic...
