Broken down motorists and no booze

Cut to the chase. Live remotely on a hill and the drive runs down to the main road, which is starting to clog up due to an awesome snow storm and we are a long way either direction to neighboring towns. The fires are lit (we have two, not a stealth boast just frickin cold) and the house looks warm and inviting from the road. Have had stranded motorists before and put them up for the night. Big problem - no booze.

What can we do?

Only help them if they bring and share?

Justwanttosayplease · 02/03/2018 18:51

Oh, its nice and hot inside now.

Sirzy · 02/03/2018 18:51

For the motorists? Surely they would just be pleased to have shelter?

KellyBailey · 02/03/2018 18:51

Eh? You think people stuck in a snowdrift would turn down a bed for the night if you have no booze in? Confused

Justwanttosayplease · 02/03/2018 18:52

Yes, but its fun to chat and laugh, spirit of dunkirk and all that stuff.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 02/03/2018 18:53

Most people can chat and laugh while sober

Justwanttosayplease · 02/03/2018 18:53

No, Kelly it would be fun to have the booze in, play cards, monopoly as nobody is going anywhere tonight. We do not do needlework in this house.

Berate yourselves for woeful planning? Remember the 6 Ps: piss poor preparation leads to piss poor performance.
Sorry OP, but you should never have let this happen
Will it be useful if I weep for you then drink another gin in your name?

Justwanttosayplease · 02/03/2018 18:54

Cardibach is it homemade gin? If so how long does it take. Can I make it in two hours?

Sirzy don’t be so judgemental. Yes, we can chat and laugh while sober but alcohol is nice.

iklboo · 02/03/2018 18:54

If they need to drive in the morning maybe best not to have booze? I'd be happy and grateful with a hot cup of tea and a warm bed.

cardibach · 02/03/2018 18:55

Just sorry no. It is lovely Bulldog with Fevertree Aromatic tonic. I fear I am a gin snob.

MyKingdomForBrie · 02/03/2018 18:55

No alcohol in the whole house?! How did this happen?! There’s always at least the ouzo from Greek holiday/ten year old brandy etc in the booze cupboard..

Any motorists out tonight are certifiable without the booze, surely..

Me and my parents walked a mile or so to the garage earlier to get some wine in! 😳 What's the fun in being snowed in if there's no booze?!

Justwanttosayplease · 02/03/2018 18:55

A warm bed. Ooh yes, are you suggesting what I think you are iklboo ?

OP posts:
iklboo · 02/03/2018 18:56

Sorry that sounded proper snotty! I was trying to be supportive (while knocking back a glass of red).

iklboo · 02/03/2018 18:57

Ah - the making of a M&B romance novel eh? (Mumsnet & Bullshit, not Mills & Boon) Wink

PositivelyPERF · 02/03/2018 18:57

Seriously OP. I can’t believe you’ve no booze in. Did you not prepare for this weather at all? You should have made a list.

Gas card
Booze
Tinned food
Extra bread
Booze
Toilet roll
Booze
Candles
Coal
Booze

You’re a disgrace to country living people. Hang your head in shame.

italiancortado · 02/03/2018 18:58

I'm amazed alcohol is a priority for anyone given that people are dying as a result of the weather.

angelnix · 02/03/2018 19:01

Invite them in....they may have booze in their car and it will be perfectly chilled already

LakieLady · 02/03/2018 19:01

If I was stranded in the snow I would be eternally grateful just to be in a warm house and given a cup of tea, tbh. And I love a drink!

gingergenius · 02/03/2018 19:02

@Justwanttosayplease I'm on my way to yours with a crate of your favourite poison!!!

Justwanttosayplease · 02/03/2018 19:02

I can find two bottles of perfume, one bottle of aftershave, some chocolate liquers, half a bottle of white wine.

To be honest, I didn't replace the wine as it would no longer keep in the house after we converted the spare bedrooms to hydrotropic cannabis growing plants.

You sure you haven't got any 20y/o cherry brandy sticking to the base of some cupboard somewhere???
