To ask what your ideal job would be

I started another post saying I'm unhappy with my job and was just thinking what job I'd love to do in an ideal world. One thing would be to own a lovely little gift shop just selling cards and pretty things with a seating area serving tea, coffee and cakes, sandwiches etc. How about you?

I would have a seaside bed and breakfast. Somewhere all year round like Whitby. I've worked in plenty of hotels and b and b and like it, but it would be good to do it for myself!

Fluffyunicorns · 20/02/2018 19:16

Anything where I meet other people and get to talk! Rather than the, admittedly well paid, job that I do now that bores the pants off me. Single mother though, getting zero child maintenance so the pay outweighs all at the moment. Hope I am still young enough to do something exciting when I no longer have to support the children!Smile

Ooh good thread! I’d love to be a full time photographer, a wedding planner or property developer... maybe one day Smile

CanIhavedessertfirst · 20/02/2018 19:20

I would love to be a counsellor. I wanted to be a journalist, but stuff happened and I never went to uni. Lately I have become interested in mental health treatment (have a history of ocd, anxiety and eating disorders) and would like to go into that field. I'd still like to write though.

Dieu · 20/02/2018 19:20

A mattress tester or/and restaurant reviewer.
Can you tell my hobbies are sleeping and eating? Blush

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 20/02/2018 19:22

Lady of Leisure.

Or, I’d like to own a hip coffee shop in Camden. Maybe one like in Ellen - remember her coffee/book shop?

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 19:28

I was having fantasies today about owning a B&B in an 'istoric property, where I can fill bookshelves with books about the history in question and generally swan around. I would employ at decent pay someone else to change the beds, because in this fantasy life I don't have to make any actual money, and I would also employ someone else to cook as I'm a useless cook. I would have an attractive dog, or two, and all the menus would have to include exhortations not to slip scraps to the dogs as they are so friendly and adorable.

< sigh >

Adrianflank · 20/02/2018 19:29

My passion is wild life, rhinos being my favourite, because of the alarming numbers being poached for there horn, I would love to be partbof an anti poaching team, although it's very dangerous!

Or a wild life get based in Botswana

StillMedusa · 20/02/2018 19:36

I'd have an animal rescue reservation, where (in my fantasy) I could provide all the poor abused animals a happy loved retirement :)
(Obviously I would also have to have won a huge Euromillions lotto and have lots of wealthy supporters!)

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 19:49

Oooh, Adrian and Still, often in my fantasies my 'istoric B&B is close to a good zoo (one of the responsible ones, like Chester or Jersey) where I can volunteer on my off-days to chop up fruit for the lemurs.

harlaandgoddard · 20/02/2018 19:52

Property developer and/or have my own wedding dress shop.

WobbleHead · 20/02/2018 19:56

Florist for people getting married with wildly enormous budgets.

Side gig as a hugely in demand artist.

SneakyGremlins · 20/02/2018 19:58

I'd love to open a sandwich shop! Smile

Monkeysaymonkeydo · 20/02/2018 20:05

To own and run a cat cafe. Any job involving cats tbh would be my dream job 😻

Ohyesiam · 20/02/2018 20:05

I would love to be/ have been a dancer in a contemporary dance company, touring the UK and abroad.

treaclesoda · 20/02/2018 20:07

Professional musician in an orchestra.

Blackteadrinker77 · 20/02/2018 20:09

A tea and cake tester

A couch potato, long hours preferred

BonnieBlueButler · 20/02/2018 20:15

Either:

  • reading audiobooks aloud

Or

  • a Take a Break or Chat journalist. I can’t imagine that ever being boring!
ittooshallpass · 20/02/2018 20:18

I'd be happy to be paid the wage I am now (working full time in a thankless job) to be a SAHM.

Grumboots · 20/02/2018 20:20

I'm very lucky that I'm doing mine already: Special Needs Teacher.

Absolutely adore my job, am so passionate about it and the children I support. It's not without it's challenges and it's absolutely exhausting but to watch their progress, however small, makes my heart burst!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 20/02/2018 20:20

The job I'd like is the person who picks the music for telly, films and ads. Or running a cattery.

No chance of either, sadly.

halfwitpicker · 20/02/2018 20:21

I'd be the senior writer for a travel blog about NYC, based in NYC, with a retreat in Upper State NY.

NumbersLetters · 20/02/2018 20:21

Elvis's backing singer

venellopevonschweetz · 20/02/2018 20:22

Chester Zoo recently advertised for a "Head Keeper of Giraffes"

Gutted I'm an accountant with no animal management qualifications SadGrin

Grumboots · 20/02/2018 20:23

Nevertheless, if I could be paid to sleep, I would snap that up in a heartbeat!
