To ask what your ideal job would be

I started another post saying I'm unhappy with my job and was just thinking what job I'd love to do in an ideal world. One thing would be to own a lovely little gift shop just selling cards and pretty things with a seating area serving tea, coffee and cakes, sandwiches etc. How about you?

A casting director would be my ideal job. Love the thought of it. No idea how one would get into it though.

Basically, I want to be Nina Gold. She does all the casting for huge shows like The Crown and Game of Thrones.

tobee · 20/02/2018 20:27

Sorry if this sounds wet but I'd like to do a job I was really good at. Something where people say "oh, we really need tobee to do that". Sadly still no idea what that job would be.

PoloPrincess · 20/02/2018 20:29

An undertaker. I've wanted to do this job for years and I'm finally in a position now to pursue this career.

HeyMicky · 20/02/2018 20:33

1980s children librarian (not now, but back then you did all the story circles and kids stuff yourself)

Fancy dress consultant - I'm really good at coming up with ideas on a theme

Script supervisors/Continuity - I'm an eagle eyed pedant

I had my perfect job working in a landscaping company spending all day doing 3d drawing. The work was amazing unfortunately the working environment and the way i and other staff were treated, not so much and for the sake of my mental health i had to leave :(

MrsJoshDun · 20/02/2018 20:39

Alaskan bush pilot. Flying little Cessna planes from one remote airport to another.

ProfessorPickles · 20/02/2018 20:43

I'd love to have my own cafe and be the first person people think of when they want delicious homemade cakes!

Hoping to make it a reality in the next 12 months. So excited yet so terrified!

stoplickingthetelly · 20/02/2018 20:43

Either a secret shopper for naice hotels or a wine buyer. I'm a teacher (secondary, head of department) so neither are likely to happen. In reality I would love to be a TA. I'd get to do the bits of my job I enjoy most, but none of the rubbish. Unfortunately I can't afford to change.

NapQueen · 20/02/2018 20:46

Id like to work from home, but a responsive job, so I could potter on but be around until I got a call. Maybe a virtual pa.

Unescorted · 20/02/2018 20:46

My job. I am very lucky.

Pyjamaface · 20/02/2018 20:49

Something that I can walk into my office, nice and big obviously, to find a stack of paperwork on my desk. Then I am not disturbed by another human again. I can leave when my paperwork is done, and I am paid a squillion pounds a year.

Actually I wouldn't mind doing it for just above minimum wage, and I don't really need a nice, big office. I just hate people

Mistoffelees · 20/02/2018 20:50

Wedding dress shop owner as a PP said. Or to just have the money to pursue hobbies and turn one of those into a job.

BonnieF · 20/02/2018 20:50

Michelin guide inspector.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 20/02/2018 20:51

My job... I wanted it for a long time and I’m so happy now. Part time, from home, organising events for a children’s charity. I love it

And they’re a ‘caring’ employer. So any time off for children’s illness or school stuff is happily given.

MatchsticksForMyEyesReturns · 20/02/2018 20:54

I'd love to be a jazz singer, session musician or play my violin in the LSO when they record all the film soundtracks. My degree was French and Music. I teach French, but only really use the music part of my degree for making up songs for work and playing the piano when I've time. I like my job, but music would make me happier.

GrooovyLass · 20/02/2018 20:56

I want to work in a little old-fashioned sweet shop selling sweets from jars by the quarter. Purely because I currently work in a senior complaints team for an energy provider and most of my customers are angry, but nobody in a sweet shop would be angry. Everybody would be happy and lovely to me!

LaurieMarlow · 20/02/2018 20:59

I worked with someone whose job title was 'Vice President of ice cream' Grin

KimchiLaLa · 20/02/2018 21:01

One with elements of my job (comms) but much more flexibility so I can focus on DD the way she deserves.

candlefloozy · 20/02/2018 21:01

A wedding dress seller

beepthemeep · 20/02/2018 21:03

I always thought aniston/cox/kudrow/Bing/Leblanc/schwimmer had the best job ever - they looked to have loads of fun making "friends" and to actually like one another IRL, as well as being paid a fortune.

Racheyg · 20/02/2018 21:03

Owning a pub or a shop that sells vinyl and has a cafe/bar attached to it.

juddyrockingcloggs · 20/02/2018 21:06

I would like to own a plot of land somewhere in North Yorkshire or Northumberland with a smallish pub on and run my own touring caravan site. It would be close to popular walks, just a small pub with real ales and nice British 'pub' foods, no more than 20 pitches and first class washing amenities and a small but well equipped children's play area. I would be open all year round and I would live in a lovely little onsite cottage. It would always snow in winter

Ceebs85 · 20/02/2018 21:06

I'd have a tea-room and bake my own cakes for it. I'd have local craft groups meeting regularly through the week and display/sell work by local artists. I can't afford to buy a house, let alone a business though Sad
