To ask what your ideal job would be

I started another post saying I'm unhappy with my job and was just thinking what job I'd love to do in an ideal world. One thing would be to own a lovely little gift shop just selling cards and pretty things with a seating area serving tea, coffee and cakes, sandwiches etc. How about you?

Ideally my job would be arguing with strangers on the internet. Sadly no such job exists as far as I can establish - and in fact my devotion to this pastime has just resulted in my having to leave a job.

HelloDoris · 20/02/2018 21:14

I'd own a shop/online business selling vintage shitknacks and other pretty things. I would spend days trawling charity shops and jumble sales etc for all my shiny things.

blankets4ever · 20/02/2018 21:19

Actress in the theatre - have never done any acting in my life.

LoopyLou1981 · 20/02/2018 21:21

Midwife or paediatric nurse x

Pythonesque · 20/02/2018 21:24

Something where I get to find out about people's ideas and projects, and give them help or suggestions or ideas for improvement or whatever. My major criteria is variety over time ...

Mind you I'd still like to be spending some time doing what I currently do (very part-time) which is violin teaching.

MummyMuppet2x2 · 20/02/2018 21:25

Oooooo I love this thread!
I'd be one of these:

  • an action film actress
  • a film script writer
  • a novelist (the steamy genre Grin)
  • a journo just like Stacey Dooley
However, I LOVE my proper job anyway.
SagelyNodding · 20/02/2018 21:27

Watched something on TV the other day about a woman who tests luxury hotels all over the world as her job - would be perfect for me!
Failing that, professional lottery winner would be fine...

Onesmallstepforaman · 20/02/2018 21:28

Motorcycle test rider based in southern France who happens to own both a brewery and vineyard.

NewYearNiki · 20/02/2018 21:28

Puppeteer for the Sooty show

pinkduckblueduck · 20/02/2018 21:28

A lawyer. Sadly no jobs exist even for those of us with law degrees who are passionate and willing to work extremely hard.

wakemeupbefore · 20/02/2018 21:29

Librarian at Bodleian. Without all the pestering undergrads. Grin.

otherdoor · 20/02/2018 21:30

I'd love to be an actor. I wouldn't want to be famous particularly but I'd love to get paid to be on stage/TV.

I work in a very dull yet stressful corporate job and the people I work with have literally no clue that this would be my ideal!

boringbertha · 20/02/2018 21:30

I'd love to own/run a plant nursery with a garden attached that opens to the public. Or, a national trust ranger. Currently work in university admin which is very boring!

CupcakeEater · 20/02/2018 21:34

A writer, a dancer or an actor

NewYearNiki · 20/02/2018 21:34

Sadly no jobs exist even for those of us with law degrees who are passionate and willing to work extremely hard.

If that was the case there wouldn't be any lawyers. Confused

I am one by the way.

Sarahh2014 · 20/02/2018 21:42

Queen of fucking everything 😁😉

pinkduckblueduck · 20/02/2018 21:43

@NewYearNiki jobs exist but it's very difficult to get a training contract to qualify.

Freshprincess · 20/02/2018 21:44

Musical theatre actress. My lack of training and singing ability is the only thing holding me back.

I'd also quite like to work in the M&S coffee shop in my town, it's next door to Costa so it's usually pretty empty. I wouldn't work weekends though, or deal with stroppy customers. I'd get free food, coffee and to sit down whenever I'm tired.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 20/02/2018 21:45

I'm a lawyer and I do quite like it. But I wish there was a legal job that just involved drafting and wouldn't require me to deal with actual clients. I'd like to have a role in which other lawyers gave me instructions and dealt with clients and I could just sit in my office and draft documents all day long and drink coffee.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 20/02/2018 21:45

I used to think that publishing would be great as I could just sit and read all day. I didn't pursue it because I didn't want to move to London. So that, but only if I really could just sit and read all day.

NewYearNiki · 20/02/2018 21:46

@pinkduckblueduck

You said no jobs exist which isn't actually the case.

If you want to be a lawyer that is the level of pedantry and accuracy you must aspire to. Start practicing. Wink

pinkduckblueduck · 20/02/2018 21:47

@NewYearNiki how patronising. That is exactly why I'm not pursuing it. People like you.

NewYearNiki · 20/02/2018 21:47

But I wish there was a legal job that just involved drafting and wouldn't require me to deal with actual clients.

Me too. I love the drafting!

MrsWhirly · 20/02/2018 21:47

I would love to own a wedding venue and offer planning services. I really would.

NewYearNiki · 20/02/2018 21:48

@pinkduckblueduck

Changed your mind again.

  1. No jobs
  2. I cant get a job
  3. I hate people like you.

No wonder you cant get a job. Smile
