Which theories, dismissed by many as conspiracy theories, do you regard as the truth?

granny Yes amazing how the gossip travelled.

grannytomine · 20/02/2018 19:32

Crunchymint, yes it is. I wonder who let that cat out of the bag?

That bloke with a beard with Jimmy Savile isn't Peter Sutcliffe. It's just a bloke with a beard

No. It is Peter Sutcliffe. Don't you think that if it was just some bloke with a beard then there would be multitudes of articles debunking the pic? Can you find one? Even Frank Bruno acknowledges that man he is shaking hands with in the photo is Sutcliffe.

Savile had a position at Broadmoor which where the picture was taken.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 20/02/2018 19:47

Savill was a patron of Broadmoor, for some bizarre reason.

I can only hazard a guess it was so he could hear depraved stories first hand.

It is fact that St Patrick came back to Ireland, back to relative civilisation, compared to the apocalyptic scenes he witnessed in Britain following the withdrawal of the Romans and the decline of the Empire. The Irish, he thought were wealthier and more civilised. Plus it's also a fact that those who spoke Brythonic lost the language to the Angles and the Saxons and were in turn considered immigrants, though the Welsh held on and remnants of Old and Common Brythonic still remain.

Graphista
No ancient aliens is something completely different. Scientology is based on the bonkers idea they are Thetans inhabiting the human form.

Ancient aliens is presenting ancient sites, relics and folklore. From that, the presenters/scholars extrapolate information and with this speculate on whether humans or aliens were involved. Some very intelligent people involved. Some theories far fetched, others less so and don’t always involve little green men.

While we are talking of conspiracies, Scientology is one big one.

Bouledeneige · 20/02/2018 20:07

The earth is definitely flat. I've flown to the US and Australia and saw the edge. The Japanese flew a bloody long way to bomb Pearl Harbour.

TabbyMack · 20/02/2018 20:07

Here's an interesting mystery (imo)....

Who killed Roger Ackroyd?

No spoilers for anyone who hasn't read it, but Poirot declares X the killer at the end of The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd & gives a step by step timeline of how s/he did it (as usual). But going by that, the accused cannot possibly have done it...at least not the way Poirot claims.

So, was Poirot wrong?
Did Agatha Christie know that? This book is one of her most famous for a certain reason, did she manage to pull the wool over her readers eyes even more amazingly by making the narrative even more unreliable than supposed?
Or did she just make a mistake?
And, in Poirot universe, if X didn't do it, who did?

If there are any "respected scientists" around who believe time travel is possible, that's because relativity predicts it

The equations that most bits of physics work on can work with time going either forward or backward. Recent work has sort of quantum tunnelled particles (sorry I’m probably not explaining this very well, there’s a link a few pages back) whochvis in effect tone travel (if you’d like some fun physics before bed do look up entanglement.)

It is however a rather massive stretch from that to deloreans or bill and ted. :)

The ancient aliens guy though - the hair! The fake tan! The teeth so white it’s like looking through his head into a well-duluxed wall beyond..! The program is hilarious. The format is usually DID ALIENS MAKE (insert ancient monument) and then there are some respected talking heads going ‘um well we think this was constructed by the Mayan civilisation in whatever bc’ and then some utter nut comes on and basically goes NO IT WAS ALIENS. Then Very Orange Bouffant Man does his bit again. And the conclusion is no aliens probably didn’t, BUT ALIENS.

It’s quite fascinating. Bonkers, but interesting to see how mainstream these beliefs are.

Boulty · 20/02/2018 20:15

None of them, they all get unpicked by experts from lots of different fields but the stories of how it really happened/who did it just grow and grow and some are quite ridiculous but probably better than the truth and so many believe them.. tin hat anyone?

NameChanger22 · 20/02/2018 20:21

Maybe Princess Diana was bumped off because she was starting to make too much noise about what she knew happened at the palace when JS and PP got together. I think that photo is PS.

Grilledaubergines · 20/02/2018 20:28

Has the Harry/Hewitt rubbish not died a death yet? Only similarity is hair colour. That’s sadly not what prices parentage. The fact that Harry looks more like Charles than William does I’d say is fair proof.

My hair colour is the same as Dacian McCall’s. So we must be related.

Grilledaubergines · 20/02/2018 20:28

Davina

beluga425 · 20/02/2018 20:34

Yes, that's possible Namechanger22
I knew nothing about Jimmy Sabine and Royal connection until today.

I'd always thought that Diana was probably bumped off by the weapons industry as she had a lot of influence and was putting pressure on governments to ban land mines. Seemed to make more sense than the Royal family doing it.

I'm currently an inpatient at Stoke Mandeville Hospital which at one time received a massive amount of money from Jimmy Saville and his fund raising and he was apparently given carte blanche to wander around the wards talking to patients.

Since the truth about him was made common knowledge, all trace of him has been removed and I'm informed that if you say his name in the hospital, you will politely be asked to leave. I might not try until I'm ready to go home.

beluga425 · 20/02/2018 20:41

Oh no Silvery best stay quiet on that! Hope you're ready to go home soon!

So why has PP never been investigated? I think we've learnt nothing from the JS case. Some people are always going to be completely untouchable and above the law. I've been waiting for this story to break for years now, it's been a conspiracy theory for many years.

TabbyMack · 20/02/2018 20:56

*If you'd like a bit of fun physics before bed do look up entanglement
*
That is immensely patronising. Are you male?

beluga425 · 20/02/2018 20:57

Maybe PP has been investigated, maybe it's just always been known and expected. Almost shocked, which doesn't often happen.
