Which theories, dismissed by many as conspiracy theories, do you regard as the truth?

For those who were hooked by Making A Murderer, I’d recommend you seek out The Staircase - fascinating series, I still don’t know if he did it or not and I’ve watched it several times.

Regardless of whether MAM left out some details, some of the details are just so suspect - the fact that Brendan Dassey was convicted despite the shocking interrogation techniques and the fact that what he said happened could literally not have happened (did you see the state of that trailer? No chance they’d cleaned up every trace of DNA froma bludgeoning).

I do think that the police involved believed he did it, but knew they couldn’t prove it without evidence hence the key etc. I don’t know who did it, but I’d certainly start by talking more to the ex that shows up in court. Creepy fucker.

Did you see the conspiracy theory that it was actually a serial killer who’s believed to have been responsible for many high profile murders, and that this guy actually shows up in the documentary?

Why choose a boy to replace Elizabeth 1st? easier to find a girl and dupe her dad that way - if he hadn't seen her for years and wasn't interested in her, that would have been the easy thing to do surely?

9/11 will always be the one that will baffle people for years. we will never know the truth about that.

Not sure about Diana - a year beforehand she was interviewed on Panorama and that caused a lot of upset at the time - the royals saw her as a loose cannon. She was everywhere that year, all over the tv and in the magazines and her love life was constantly being speculated on - i remember a few days before she died there was footage of her on yacht and the morning tv shows were having discussions about it - people were growing tried of her a bit by that stage as it all seemed to be publicity stunts at every opportunity. I feel for her sons though, they were the innocent victims in all this.
She was treated appallingly by the establishment, but a lot she also courted herself. it wasnt all a one way street - not that she deserved to die of course, but she would have caused a lot of problems if she has lived.. ( people even said it to me the day she died that she murdered and this was long before the internet) It was a strange time.

pittapatter titanic switch?

And mh370 was rather odd..

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 20/02/2018 09:28

it's possible that he found Elizabeth Tudor

No, it really isn’t. Besides the obvious already stated above, do you really believe that not one other person would have realised Elizabeth came back totally different? Not one? Do you think she had no one in the world who cared about her? No friends at all?

I can’t believe we live in a world where people find it easier to believe that an 11 year old boy could at the time and for the rest of his life fool the world, people who knew and loved Elizabeth, into thinking he was a woman and he was actually her, than it is for them to believe a woman ran the place so well.

Do you have any idea how many people were gunning for her? The slightest hint EVER that she wasn’t truly Elizabeth and the whole court would have jumped on it. Lucky the only red haired 11 year old boy they could find (who wasn’t missed by his presumably very wealthy family obviously) turned out to be such a bloody genius eh? 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

ShatnersWig · 20/02/2018 09:29

The Titanic switch is total nonsense and easily disproved (Titanic nut here). Simply unbelievable. The two books on it are a cracking good read, however, and do throw up some interesting thoughts and facts in regard to other aspects of the sinking.

beluga425 · 20/02/2018 09:31

The Titanic was switched? Why? What's at the bottom of the ocean? Where's the 'real' Titanic?

Even if redheads were of short supply, finding a blonde female child and dyeing her hair would have been considerably easier than finding a redheaded male and hiding his cock, balls and beard for nearly 60 years Grin

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 20/02/2018 09:37

While we’re on the subject of the Titanic, for anyone who doesn’t know, this is not a conspiracy but one of my favourite weird coincidences: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wreck_of_the_Titan:_Or,_Futility

Apologies for the aside. Just find it interesting. Now back to conspiracies!

ToffeePennie · 20/02/2018 09:37

Can someone tell me who Jill dando was and the conspiracy therory? I think I was either too young at the time or possibly out in Germany.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 20/02/2018 09:38

Beyond, yes! Didn’t even think about his ginger beard!! Oh god why are people so very thick???!

ShatnersWig · 20/02/2018 09:39

The Titanic switch is a supposed insurance scam that went wrong. It's quite convoluted but in summary:

Two sister ships built, Olympic and Titanic (third followed later). Olympic finished first was damaged, quite seriously, by another vessel. White Star was not compensated for the damage, which they should have been as they were not at fault, and the ship was going to be out of action for a while. So they simply made changes to the almost finished Titanic and renamed it Olympic to continue its career. The damaged Olympic was patched up and renamed Olympic and they PLANNED to sink it at sea but have everyone rescued first and claim on the insurance. But other factors meant they cocked it up and hundreds died.

So, the supposition is that it was Olympic that sank, the Titanic carried on in service for 20+ years as Olympic. The third sister was finally built, Britannic (originally to be called Gigantic!) but immediately requisitioned as a medical ship for WWI and was torpedoed.

Skrowten · 20/02/2018 09:41

Could someone quickly explain the WTC tower 7 conspiracy theory to me? Us this a third tower that was felled? I've never heard of this

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 20/02/2018 09:45

Jill dando was an investigative journalist who worked for the BBC, she was shot dead on her doorstep in the 90s. She was good friends with Cliff Richard iirc and her husband is an obstetrician who went on to deliver Prince George (and possibly the others too?)

Someone was convicted for her murder but then acquitted. It is suggested she had discovered something (bear in mind Jimmy Saville's crimes weren't public knowledge then), and was shot by a hitman.

kukumber · 20/02/2018 09:48

Being worried about angering Henry VIII is understandable, but there would have been several people responsible for her care. Henry VIII was terrified of the plague - why wouldn't he have believed that natural causes were responsible?

Replacing the child to 'fool' the king would have been suicide for everyone involved. The idea is just nonsense.

ToffeePennie · 20/02/2018 09:48

Thanks beyond. Yes I was out in Germany and younger then10 in the 90s so that explains why I don’t know about it. Off to do some googling!

frankchickens · 20/02/2018 09:52

Could someone quickly explain the WTC tower 7 conspiracy theory to me?

Uninformed twaddle claims that WTC7 which wasn't hit by planes couldn't just have collapsed due to the fires.

Various corroborating "evidence" like "I saw some dodgy types hanging around in the days prior" has been extrapolated to "I saw people bringing in huge crates marked TNT in the weeks before"

Like all the rest of this stuff, it is bobbins.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 20/02/2018 09:55

WTC7 apparently had a recorded history of people being concerned whether it was structurally sound. Funnily enough, internal fires and then two skyscrapers falling down in its near vicinity compromised it further and it fell down. But yeah, TNT boxes... 🙄

frankchickens · 20/02/2018 09:56

Jill dando[sic] was an investigative journalist

Er, hardly. She was a former local journalist who had made a career presenting TV programmes. NB I am in no way trying to impugn her memory or career, but having been alive at the time - she was certainly not known for her investigative journalism.

kukumber · 20/02/2018 09:56

WTC7 was directly across the street from one of the twin towers and was attached to it by a structure and it also caught fire.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 20/02/2018 10:00

I also heard things about Jill Dando being murdered by the Serbian mafia or something? Or something to do with the Serbian war.

I dont know, I mean women do get stalked and murdered by nutters. But in this case it really is totally plausible that she was about to uncover something big at the BBC. I think it was almost definitely bigger than Savile as well. Surely the whole reason that none of it came out before he died was because certain people knew that if he was going down there would be plenty of people he would take down with him. And I know that he was powerful, but at the end of the day he was just a TV presenter/charity worker, and I don't think he specifically would have been given keys to hospitals or whatever was going on unless that sort of stuff was already common practice?

Im really not much of a conspiracy theory type, but I do think that Savile is probably the tip of the iceberg and small fry in the grand scheme.

And David Kelly was almost definitely murdered.

Sad
sashh · 20/02/2018 10:00

Cupofcake

Gadaffi did, and that meant sanctions would be lifted and he could get back to selling oil. I can't believe Iran would not retaliate for Iran Air Flight 655. Maybe not directly but via an Islamist or Palestinian terror organisation.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 20/02/2018 10:02

Does the lack of capitalisation by my autocorrect really require a [sic] ? Hmm

sashh · 20/02/2018 10:03

Could someone quickly explain the WTC tower 7 conspiracy theory to me?

On you tube there is a BBC documentary called something like conspiracy theories and building 7 - it stays away from the out right nut case but does look at some evidence.

ReginaPhalangeismyothername · 20/02/2018 10:05

Re: building 7. Isn't there a video of the owner of the building saying they made a decision to 'pull it'? Wasn't it also insured for a ridiculous amount in the week or two prior to it coming down? I could be remembering it wrong though

kukumber · 20/02/2018 10:05

'she (Diana)was everywhere that year, all over the tv and in the magazines and her love life was constantly being speculated on'

She was absolutely no threat to the Royal family - a woman who spent her time lounging about on yachts with rich men (as she was portrayed in the media).

I would like to know what happened behind the scenes with the Queen and the Paul Burrell court case.
