Which theories, dismissed by many as conspiracy theories, do you regard as the truth?

How do you get people to believe "visions" are real? Asking for a friend.

*I think David Cameron wanted Brexit but stepped down playing good cop so TM could carry it through with him et al guiding her behind the scenes.

So... DC wanted Brexit and then thought the best way to make that happen was to tell the electorate to vote against it?

And TM WANTED to carry through Brexit even though she'd voted Remain... It's not exactly as though she's happy in her role, is it?*

I think Cameron wanted brexit, I believed this throughout the campaign. Most of the establishment wanted brexit to happen, many pretended they didn't. There was so much manipulation. Heading the leave campaign were the most popular leaders (Boris, Farage) and the remain campaign led by the least popular leaders (Cameron, May). The great British brainwashed public will usually vote for the leaders they like and believe in and not bother to look any further into things than that. The establishment obviously know this. There is no way Mrs May wanted to remain in the EU - she hates immigration, loves power and control etc. I think you are very gullible (or stupid) to believe she was ever a remainer.

HolyShmoly · 18/02/2018 20:35

Thisusername my sister actually had/has one of those statues of Mary where it looks like rain is coming down around her. Like this: imgur.com/gallery/wj0Pu (second picture, I would be amazed if she had the first one.) I was disappointed when we went to Mexico and there was less gaudy stuff than I could get in Knock.

My grandparents lived near there so we'd end up stopping there most summers.

The80sweregreat · 18/02/2018 20:35

Cruncy! ( waves )
Not sure, depends where they were seen and how convincing the people are i suppose.

Jaygee61 · 18/02/2018 20:39

Anyone seen the film Operation Avalanche? A sort of mock documentary based on the idea that while NASA had the technology to go to the moon in 1969 they did not have the ability to actually land and that part of the Apollo 11 mission was faked. Interesting watch. I still believe they landed though. Buzz Aldrin decked someone who suggested otherwise.

KNain · 18/02/2018 20:40

I don't really believe any conspiracy theories, but I do love them. And I certainly think that in lots of instances the truth lies somewhere between the story we're being told and the conspiracy theory. E.g. we did land on the moon, but the photos/footage of the moon landing might not be entirely true; it's probably something boring and simple like the real footage wasn't great quality so they edited/staged a bit to make it look better, but then things like flapping flags got introduced.

What always makes me sceptical of conspiracy theories is that if they can't even manage to not let the winner of Bake Off slip out how can something as big as the moon landing or 9/11 be kept secret?

IAmMumWho · 18/02/2018 20:40

9/11 definitely an inside job by the government, you could see the tnt detonate on que as the planes 'crashed'

Diana princess of Wales was murdered by the queen/Charles. I'm a strong believer on that, no proof obviously.

As someone else has said, man on the moon!? Come on, loads would have been if it was possible

Flight MH390 was landed on a remote unknown island and all are still alive. I don't think it's in the ocean.

A more recent topic in the news, Time Travelling, I believe it's possible and the government again are concealing it. In another 10 years according to a TT we will be told about it and it's been happening since 2003.

Life on other planets. I strongly believe this is true!

ScaryMary81 · 18/02/2018 20:41

rookiemere

I believe that the VIP Paedophile victim has been set up. To avoid the true scale of the scandal and protect the elite.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 18/02/2018 20:41

@Brackenette

I honestly don't want to sound like too much of an arsehole but your question asking if the police or the courts deliver a verdict is exactly the problem that leads to people going along with conspiracy theories, when you know nothing, you'll believe anything.

At an inquest all evidence, including that from the police, is put before a coroner, who makes a judgement.

KevinTheYuccaPlant · 18/02/2018 20:43

One I'd love to know the truth of is the theory that Elizabeth I died as a child and was replaced by a boy of the same age by the family charged with her care. It could be quite easily proved by opening her tomb and looking at the skeleton, but it's never been done.

BonnieF · 18/02/2018 20:44

Aviation person here, with 23 years global industry experience in technical & operational roles.

MH 370 didn’t “disappear into thin air”. We do know that it almost certainly disappeared into the southern Indian Ocean, but we don’t yet know exactly where and, crucially, we don’t know why.

Any possible explanation of the aircraft’s disappearance is at this stage entirely speculative because we do not yet have the data or evidence we need to establish the truth.

Boeing 777s operated by major international carriers do not just fall out of the sky. The entire aerospace and aviation industry needs to know exactly what happened to this aircraft and why, so that lessons can be learned, procedures improved and shared across the industry. This is how aviation safety has advanced for many decades.

The case of AF 447, which crashed in the Atlantic in 2009 was eventually resolved, and i’m confident MH 370 will be, too.

Cooroo · 18/02/2018 20:46

Given up RTFT because the amount of credulous bollocks being spouted here is getting me down.

Can I refer the believers to the excellent podcasts by Skeptoid.com who many of them are debunked, using evidence you can check for yourselves?

Anyone can write an article, make a documentary supporting their ridiculous beliefs if they are prepared to throw in complete untruths. Dig a little deeper.

Graphista · 18/02/2018 20:47

9/11 - "let it happen" suited George w's agenda, USA haven't been attacked on their own soil like this since pearl harbour, they have very tight security and generally speaking good intelligence agencies. I don't believe they had no idea what was planned.

Jfk/lee Harvey Oswald - no way one man with a poor skills record made those shots on a moving target with other people crowding about, not to mention last minute changes to jfk's security detail.

Princess Diana - the day before in all the Papers that she's going to reveal a surprise/secret, pics where she very much looked like she had a small pregnancy bump, too many changes/inconsistencies in what happened.

"I think Jill Dando got too close to the paedophile ring and was taken out." Yes

"I think we’re going to get some shocks when the rest of the high-profile paedophiles start dying off and things become public." I agree I think some "national treasures" will be yanked off their pedestals.

MM

David Kelly - murdered

TickleMcTickleFace · 18/02/2018 20:48

I don’t believe Peaches Geldof died of an accidental overdose especially not whilst she was looking after her baby alone.

CauliflowerBalti · 18/02/2018 20:48

It’s not a conspiracy theory - but I believe unicorns existed. Firmly.

Not magical. And not winged (that would be a pegasus).

But horses with a horn? That’s basically what a rhino is. And rhinos are from the same family as horses. And if the horn was made of hair there’d be no fossil evidence - and any hair they did find would just be explained as mane.

And cultures all over the world have them as part of their mythology. And rhino horns are supposed to have magic powers. And rhinos are basically unicorns.

I drive my DP mad with this. He says I’m ordinarily rational.

But I BELIEVE.

IAmMumWho · 18/02/2018 20:50

@BonnieF dang goes my theory lol thanks for that insight

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/02/2018 20:50

The Manson Murders were NOT about Helter Skelter. Vincent Bugliosi made that up and because of THAT, we have conspiracy theories.

IAmMumWho · 18/02/2018 20:51

I'd like to think mermaids exist. That would be awesome

Backenette · 18/02/2018 20:51

silently Atsehole away! I’m probably being one myself a bit in this thread 😁

I get that - the coroner works with the evidence they have and delivers a verdict. The coroner was quite scathing about rumours that the flat had been cleaned to remove only one persons DNA (how on Earth that’s possible I don’t lnow, basically it’s not..) however they also ruled that nobother person was in the flat when he died, and also that he may have been killed unlawfully.
It’s a very peculiar case - I’m not surprised people are a bit 🤔 about it.

Anyway, My point is that questioning whether an individual Died/was killed (whoever that may be) isn’t the same degree of nutjobbery as being convinced that Lizard People run the queen or whatever. One can be seen as skepticism and the other requires a rather looser grip on reality.

Similarly it’s reasonable to think that governments, companies etc can do things that are against the public interest. Like tobacco, or the oxfam thing recently. People can be shits and that’s life. But again that’s a different thing to believing something against masses of evidence to the contrary

Am I making sense? I guess I’m trying to draw a line between ‘yeah governments and the powerful can be grubby’ and ‘lizard people rule the earth.’

BonnieF · 18/02/2018 20:54

Iammumwho

There are unlikely to be many “remote unknown islands” with >2.5 km runways required to land a heavily loaded 777.......

Justanotherlurker · 18/02/2018 20:54

I think we have found the most bizarre conspiracy theory on the thread that beats Sandy hook actors, 9/11 inside job hands down.

This really is on another level and so partisan in thinking that you may still be in the anger phase, I say that as a fellow remainer.

satnc · 18/02/2018 20:55

@Meandmy4 George VI (the queens father) died of lung cancer in 1951(ish)
And I also think Princess Margaret ( the queens sister) had a few cancer scares over the years, she eventually died of a stroke in 2002.

I've been at Kensington Palace visiting today so feel all high on the royals!
Diana wasn't pregnant at the time of her death! Rosa Monkton one of her best friends was on holiday with her a week before she died and confirmed she was on her period meaning it was highly unlikely she was preg.

Also most people knew that Diana and Dodi were not at all serious and that Diana was still reeling over Hasnat Khan and trying to make him jel.

Why didn't she just put her bloody seat belt on? She had young boys at home and knew how fast the car was going, surely she would have just buckled up? Not been sat sideways in her seat in that car

HolyShmoly · 18/02/2018 20:56

silentlyscreaming I really want to listen to that as I know next to nothing about the case. I think I wasted my free book on the Girl on the Train though so I might have to actually pay! Wish it was a podcast so it would be a) free and b) open to a bigger audience.

Pumpkinisland89 · 18/02/2018 21:06

Brian Cox has said that time travel is happening now. Not in a whole send someone back to 1963 to kill/save JFK type way but being able to move particals about.

beluga425 · 18/02/2018 21:06

The case of AF 447, which crashed in the Atlantic in 2009 was eventually resolved, and i’m confident MH 370 will be, too.
However they started finding bits of AF447 after 2 days.
A 777 is mostly plastics and polycarbonate. If it had crashed we'd have seen bits of it floating somewhere by now. The only other plane to have disappeared crashed into a glacier and appeared decades later, but it was about a tenth of the size.
