Which theories, dismissed by many as conspiracy theories, do you regard as the truth?

I agree that Hillsborough ( for example) might have lain dormant if it wasnt for the families and friends of the 96 that died who fought for justice and proper answers. I am in awe of those people who faught the authorities - so much was covered up, it took decades for the truth to come out and for the untruths to be put to bed. Those people are heros of mine for just being so tenacious and never giving up.
I do think that some things are covered up and lots of things that have happened that we will never know the real truth.

Backenette · 18/02/2018 20:10

What needs to happen with Grendel is a merciless Investigation into how fire safety regs have been flouted to line the pockets of contractors.

MexicanBob · 18/02/2018 20:10

Richard III ordered the murder of the princes in the Tower.

Justanotherlurker · 18/02/2018 20:11

For a full on ‘cast of thousands’ cover up (9/11 an inside job, no moon landings, etc) you’re asking if it’s reasonable to expect hundreds or thousands of people to be involved and to keep schtum. And frankly people are shit at that. So then your likelihood plummets.

But MKUltra and NSA/MI6 etc was able to operate for years

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 18/02/2018 20:13

d man in a locked hold-all in a bath, you wouldn’t be unreasonable to think ‘my god! Someone has killed this man and locked him in a bag!’ Nor would you be unreasonable to have a degree of skepticism at a suicide verdict. Killing people and casting sexual aspersions on them is KGB101 straight out of every spy manual on earth. Even the Romans used it as a technique to discredit enemies

But the verdict wasn't suicide. From Wikipedia:

"The coroner was "satisfied that on the balance of probabilities that Gareth was killed unlawfully". There was insufficient evidence to give a verdict of unlawful killing."

Andrewofgg · 18/02/2018 20:13

And if the regs are inadequate but have not been flouted - what then?

Backenette · 18/02/2018 20:14

One I do think is very odd is the Marconi deaths.

cista · 18/02/2018 20:14

D-notices fascinate me... we have several in place in the U.K.

Backenette · 18/02/2018 20:15

And if the regs are inadequate but have not been flouted - what then?

Good question. I’d be asking why the regs are inadequate. Have they been changed? If so why? And then changing the regs.

Clem7 · 18/02/2018 20:18

9/11 was an inside job.
Moon landings didn’t happen.
The earth is flat.
There is no Finland.

Ophelialovescats · 18/02/2018 20:18

I would say that the apparitions at Knock,Fatima and Lourdes, etc. were just teenage hormonal hysteria manifesting itself.

Pumpkinisland89 · 18/02/2018 20:18

History is littered with "civilised" governments hurting their own people. Are you saying the the USA government (or UK for that matter) always act in the interests of their people? Now THAT is a conspiracy theory.

However I never said 911 was an inside job. I said I don't understand how they could possibly have not known about such an operation and they either let it happened or couldn't stop it.

Meandmy4 · 18/02/2018 20:18

Sophisticatedsarcasm great minds 😜
Also ...has any member of our British Royalty ever died of cancer ?
...just saying

Backenette · 18/02/2018 20:19

I didn’t know that. screaming ... The met review concluded it was probably an accident. Was that before or after the initial coroner report??

www.bbc.com/news/uk-24927078

Like I say, unless any of us were there we can’t know, but considering foul play in a case like that isnt paranoid. Believing a hundred thousand scientists are holding a secret cure for cancer is paranoid - too unlikely.

crunchymint · 18/02/2018 20:19

Yes the Marconi deaths seem very suspicious

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 18/02/2018 20:20

I love conspiracy theories, truly fascinate me.
I've been wondering just how far the CIA will let Trump go before they have him taken out by a random lunatic.

HolyShmoly · 18/02/2018 20:20

Not quite a conspiracy but the Stardust fire was an example of money buying results.
I fell down a blackhole a few weeks ago and found more than a few dodgy Irish stories actually, Fr Niall Molloy for example. Most of those seem to be a mixture of Gardai ineptitude and grubby politicians.

Pumpkinisland89 · 18/02/2018 20:21

We won't ever know how many died in Glenfield. The heat of the fire and the way people tried to escape meant that it was impossible to distinguish bodies. I think that means the governmemt don't have to hide anything.

Backenette · 18/02/2018 20:22

But MKUltra and NSA/MI6 etc was able to operate for years

Yup - but neither involved tens/hundreds of thousands of civilians. Keeping a military /intelligence program secret is a different matter.

I work in cancer research - there’s no single cure for all cancers and no one is keeping a cure for anything tucked away.

Elledouble · 18/02/2018 20:25

The Marconi deaths weird me out. I’ve worked with lots of people from Marconi and it’s just so odd.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 18/02/2018 20:25

Also, unfortunately Knock isn't as much a money spinner as it once was. I've seen houses recently for sale which made a big deal about the use of Knock airport to make an easy commute to West Midlands, there's feck all employment in rural Mayo like most of rural Ireland. Monsignor Horan wanted to make it another Lourdes but it never quite worked out.

If you fancy a pair of smelly rosary beads there's a cracking selection though.

Ah the memories of being let loose in the shops at Knock with a few quid! I would also try and find the 'prettiest' rosary beads and always wanted a giant plastic flashing statue of Mary! 😂

Thisusernamethingistricky · 18/02/2018 20:27

Yes, the origins of Christianity in general always fascinates me. Like, was there an actual guy in Roman times called Jesus who people latched onto and followed and it all stemmed from there?

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 18/02/2018 20:30

@HolyShmoly

This is the new audiobook of Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder, it's fantastic and free with the trial.

And those apparitions at Medjugorje sound the biggest con ever. Some of these alleged people who were supposed to have visions are now millionaires. Shock

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 18/02/2018 20:31

I’m not sure it counts as a conspiracy theory but I 100% believe Michael Stone did not kill Lin and Megan Russell. It’s local to me and means a lot that the real perpetrator is brought to justice.
