To say smoking does look cool?

Yes, I know inhaling thousands upon thousands of cancerous chemicals definitely isn't cool!

But there's something about some people lighting up a cig and looking into the distance that looks rather cool and 'suave' to me

I always picture having a deep conversation with a mysteriously handsome but dark horse of a person, looking far into the distance as they respond to my dilemma "That's life, Soph" or some other talk that included clever sayings that I can never think to use at the right moment.

It looks cool.

Now all I see is cells replicating and tumours forming with every draw they take.

I think it can look cool in Films, but then it’s usually someone beautiful doing it.

IRL the smell kicks in so it’s never ever cool.

It just looks stupid to me.

YANBU, I don't know why it looks cool but it does. And I actually miss the image of dh lighting up now he's given up. I also miss the smell which I really like.

Course it does. I gave up but yes, it totally does.

But like fedoras, leather trousers and Peaky Blinder haircuts... it makes the cool cooler and the sad sadder.

I have had three hospital appointments this week. The sad group huddled round the entrance to the hospital, freezing their arses off and trying not to cough up a lung whilst dragging on a cancer stick didn't look cool at all.

It only looks cool til it turns their teeth brown, and if you're upwind of them, and they happen to have EXACTLY the right bone structure and mouth shape. Otherwise it's like that fuckawful duckface pout so many women insist on doing in photos. Suits about three people on the planet, makes everyone else look gormless.

At least it doesn't make them smell bad though

I agree. All the coolest people who have ever been were smokers I don't smoke anymore, but if it wasn't bad for you I so would. There's something so louche about lighting a fag and blowing out the smoke. It's a punctuation to so many great moments, and people who can't see that are lacking in imagination and romance.

Thing is, anything that uses beautiful people in its promotion looks cool. Then when you see said object used irl by regular Joe and Joanne, not so much. Especially when you know it smells really really bad.
