To say smoking does look cool?

Yes, I know inhaling thousands upon thousands of cancerous chemicals definitely isn't cool!

But there's something about some people lighting up a cig and looking into the distance that looks rather cool and 'suave' to me Grin

I always picture having a deep conversation with a mysteriously handsome but dark horse of a person, looking far into the distance as they respond to my dilemma "That's life, Soph" or some other talk that included clever sayings that I can never think to use at the right moment.

It looks cool.

My executive assistant aunty use to look very classy sitting with her legs crossed and smoking a cig, whilst listening to my dilemmas
I just want to put it out there that I've never so much as taken a puff of a ciggy Blush

James Dean or Clint Eastwood in old school movies, I see your point but those people are cool anyway, they weren't gawky types who a fag made look cool.

Post smoking ban the only people I see smoking look poor and really unhealthy, usually also being obese. Far from cool, just sad addicts wasting what little money they have, which means that much fewer young people are taking it up.

My dh used to smoke heavily for over a decade and it makes me sad to think of the damage he's done to his body and the years he may have taken from his life.

I was a social smoker for years - could take it or leave it, but loved the whole ritual of lighting up, that first hit as you breathed in and the feeling of relaxation as you breathed out the smoke. With a glass of wine or beer. Out on the terrace overlooking the sea...with the other interesting, cool smokers Wink

Sigh...I've totally given up now (coz I don't want to die horribly, drowning in my own lung fluid) (not so cool) Sad

Love smoking! Know what you mean... I don't look cool though... Know it's not healthy, know it stinks. Wish I could give it up permanently. But I love smoking!!

Nope. Doesn't look cool. Even when I watch Cillian Murphy lighting up in Peaky Blinders, with his amazing cheekbones and all, I still doesn't look cool even then. It's smelly and a waste of money that could be spent on things that actually are cool.

BrandNewHouse I never spoke about the cost of cigarettes or getting cancer, believe it or not there is more to a smokers life than smoking!
IfNot you are 100% right, being sensible is so boring, I'm now a non smoker but it is boring. The smokers were always the fun chatty ones who didn't give a fuck.
I smoked tabaco, it never really left a lingering smell like cigarettes, my mil smokes and she always smells nice, I think a lot of comments on here are ott.
Vaping imo looks desperate as they've not got the will power to stop with the hard stuff. I'd rather go cold turkey and get it over with, not drag it.

No, not all. I've seen the internal organs of a deceased smoker and that stops me from thinking it's in any way cool.

YANBU op. One of my fondest memories is of watching my DH smoke out of my bedroom window when we first got together. He used to look so prettyBlush

My mum tried smoking once. Grandma told her she looked like a pig with a straw in its arse. This is always my mental image of smokers.

My dad did smoke, and on an early date, back in the day when one could smoke in the cinema, took Mum to see Jaws. She jumped so violently at one point that he dropped his fag into his lap and narrowly avoided setting fire to his trousers (the seventies were flammable years).

None of this is saying 'cool' to me...

I can see how an Audrey Hepburn lookalike sitting outside a Parisian cafe sipping espresso might look slightly more glam lighting up a cigarette than fag ash lil lighting up by a bus stop in the drizzly rain in a provincial town whilst wearing see through leggings and carrying ten bags of food shopping.

Okay, I am not overweight or pasty. I am dressed nicely (no see through leggings or dodgy home dye job for me)
I have decent cheek bones and am young enough not to have the lines around my mouth.
The only conclusion I can therefore arrive at is that I look cool when I smoke Grin

Give it time, AbeautifulBeast. My aunt, who was a lifelong smoker, died recently from a smoking-related cause. Her quality of life in the last years of her life was awful because of her illness, but what might perhaps give you pause more is that she also looked about 20 years older than her true age, which I would say is down to the smoking.
