3 isn't many is it?

Here's mine

Jill Tyrell-Nighty Night
David Brent even though he annoys me so much
Basil Fawlty

Now people will come along with theirs and I'll think I've chosen the wrong ones!

Father Dougal
Moss
Blackadder (all incarnations)

GameOldBirdz · 01/02/2018 12:16

Linda La Hughes in Gimme, Gimme, Gimme. I basically wanted to be her when I was a teenager. She was a sexually adventurous, single woman living in a gorgeous flat in London with a hilarious gay flatmate. She had body confidence, she gave zero fucks about what anyone else thought of her and she was unashamedly working class. I fucking loved her

Barbara in The Royle Family She is, I think, the most realistic, best-written character in all of TV history. She basically embodies every single working class, chain smoking, struggling, hard working mum that lived on my childhood estate. Her lines, her clothes, her behaviour, everything about her is completely spot on. Brilliant, observant writing from Caroline Aherne, Craig Cash and Phil Mealey

Uncle Bryn in Gavin and Stacey. He's just so lovely. He cares deeply about everyone around him, he puts himself out so much for everyone even though most people around him (Nessa, Stacey etc. are cunts). There's an underlying sadness there which is both fascinating and also hilarious. I like the ambiguity around his sexuality.

Thanks for this thread, OP, really made me smile Smile

Margot in The Good Life
Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army
And Del Boy Trotter

Honourable mention for Basil Fawlty as well though! Grin

PrivateParkin · 01/02/2018 12:20

George Costanza (I want to choose all of the Seinfeld four though)
Fr Ted
Niles (Frasier)

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 01/02/2018 12:21

1950s I loved MArgot....I always remember the episode where she got sad because she never understood jokes ...it was such a poignant moment.

Oh good shout Parkin!

overnightangel · 01/02/2018 12:21

@MyBrilliantDisguise

Redcrayons · 01/02/2018 12:22

If they remade The Good life now, Margot would be the heroine. Who wants their neighbors keeping pigs in their garden?

Unoriginal but David Brent

Amanduh · 01/02/2018 12:22

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 01/02/2018 12:23

Niles!

Yes Parkin he was so brilliant! I used to watch Frasier and think I'd marry Niles. I always thought whatsername the English woman's accent got more and more ridiculous as the series progressed though!

CouldaWouldaDidnt · 01/02/2018 12:23

Oh yes picking just three is quite difficult! Mine are 3 that just 'made' the TV show for me

Spike - BTVS
Cameron - Modern Family
Pacey - Dawson creek - the rest were whiny brats mostly

There's loads more love Uncle Bryn for instance and Basil!

overnightangel · 01/02/2018 12:24

@Trinity66

“I REALLY like Tony!”

CouldaWouldaDidnt · 01/02/2018 12:25

oh just read so many more! yy to Alan Partridge, Beverly Goldberg and Karen Walker!

That1950sMum · 01/02/2018 12:25

...now I've remembered Ever Decreasing Circles. Martin (Richard Briers) was a brilliant character.

Dustysparrow · 01/02/2018 12:25

Margot Leadbetter - The Good Life (love her!!!)
Edina and Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous. So hilarious, brilliant comic timing. Especially the scene where the kitchen burns down and they wonder where Patsy is and she suddenly sits up from amongst the ashes. PMSL.
