What/who is a "slut"?

Define slut.

No such thing, just outdated thinking about who should be able to have sex freely (hint:not women)

Awful word to describe a sexually promiscuous women (and shame them while being totally fine with men doing it).

Old word to describe a bad housekeeper. Also applied to women (but I quite like that one as my 70+ yo mother uses it to talk about herself).

Hypocritical term best demonstrated by contrast:

He's had sex with a hundred women. He's an amazing stud.

She's had sex with ten men. She's a total slut.

Agree the word has moved from describing a consistently unwashed and bedraggled appearance in a woman to an assessment of sex.

We still have "slattern" if one needs to describe a slovenly women. possibly MrsTP's gran would like it; she'd certainly know it.:o

No, it makes her a woman who happens to have kissed someone, as a very minor event in her life.

I agree with the other meanings, but also it means someone who has no self-respect in their sexual choices; looking for impossible-to-get validation from their sexual activity.

Its a really crappy word used to make women and nore often girls feel ashamed or bad about themselves.

I feel people who judge others (particularly women) for their sexuality and choice of partners tells you everything you need to know about the type of person they are. Someone else’s sex life makes no difference to you, it’s none of your business, and to label people sluts etc shows a small minded-ness best avoided.
Basically, get a hobby and a more fulfilling life..

My brother and I call each other sluts. For us it's a term of endearment. Since we generally only use derogatory, outdated and horrible terms as terms of endearment with each other, I would say slut is a derogatory, outdated and horrible term.

I guess the hypocritical nature of it stems from the idea that it is more difficult for men to obtain sex than women. Hence the back slapping for a man who has managed to hit the lofty heights of a hundred women.

Historically "slut" was a reference to a woman with poor housekeeping skills, who lived in a state of poor cleanliness.

Someone who sleeps with other peoples bf/husbands than yes I think that's a slut.

I enjoy 'making out with a guy I've just met'..... on an occasional basis. I'm single; if he is too, I really don't see what the issue is

I'm my head slut is someone who puts their sexual desires ahead of anything else or uses sex as a weapon or means to manipulate and can apply to both men and women.
For example, someone who, while in a committed relationship, cheats on their partner and feels it is justified because they 'needed' sex or an orgasm or feels no remorse. Also it applies to someone who uses sex and sexual advances to get what they want eg slept with their boss to get a promotion or slept with a client to win business.

I don't like the term but in my head that is what I think of when people say the word 'slut'
