Define slut.

Someone who sleeps with other peoples bf/husbands than yes I think that's a slut.

^Agreed

stevie69 · 28/01/2018 12:17

Someone who sleeps with other peoples bf/husbands than yes I think that's a slut.

Hmmm Hmm Well what does that make the bf/husband then????

For reference, I don't (knowingly) do that. I wouldn't like it if someone did it to me, ergo I don't do it to anyone else.

TheStoic · 28/01/2018 12:17

Someone who sleeps with other peoples bf/husbands than yes I think that's a slut.

What if she didn’t know he was in a relationship? If that changes things, then the term is ridiculous.

IJoinedJustToPostThis · 28/01/2018 12:18

Slut - a woman who the speaker dislikes.

That's all.

Trills · 28/01/2018 12:19

In Jilly Cooper land it would be a woman who didn't do much housework.

She'd have no clean glasses so have to drink vodka out of a tooth mug.

She'd sniff a blouse to see if it was clean enough to wear.

Bottles would be piling up by the sink.

RonaldMcDonald · 28/01/2018 12:21

I use slut and slattern interchangeably

JacquesHammer · 28/01/2018 12:21

Someone who sleeps with other peoples bf/husbands than yes I think that's a slut

So what do you call the bf/husband then?

TheStoic · 28/01/2018 12:23

She'd have no clean glasses so have to drink vodka out of a tooth mug

Can’t see a problem with that.

LadyBunnysWig · 28/01/2018 12:24

Slut.

JacquesHammer · 28/01/2018 12:24

Slut

Nice sentiment. But in practice it is a term used to denigrate women.

ThisLittleKitty · 28/01/2018 12:25

Obviously I'm talking about someone who willingly sleeps with peoples partners. Not someone who isn't aware. Then yes that's a slut IMO.

paxillin · 28/01/2018 12:25

A misogynist term to describe a woman who has more sexual partners than the describer deems acceptable. Very derogatory.

Male equivalent? Stud. Not generally derogatory.

JacquesHammer · 28/01/2018 12:27

@ThisLittleKitty and the partners? Or are they just poor victims of a devious woman’s sexual wiles?

LadyBunnysWig · 28/01/2018 12:27

Nice sentiment. But in practice it is a term used to denigrate women.

It's very common here to refer to men as sluts

Viviennemary · 28/01/2018 12:28

Even I think this is an old fashioned and derogatory term. And is seldom used these days. And quite right too.

ForalltheSaints · 28/01/2018 12:29

To me it is a derogatory term for a woman who has had many, usually short-term or one-off, sexual partners.

ThisLittleKitty · 28/01/2018 12:30

Well I wouldn't call him a slut as men aren't offended by that and I've never heard anyone refer to a man as a slut IRL.

tenaciousC · 28/01/2018 12:32

Someone lacking self-respect apparent through sexual promiscuity.

I've heard it used to describe men and women as I get the feeling this is a quite trolley (the adj. form of troll) thread trying to rile the posters who think the world is against women!

gluteustothemaximus · 28/01/2018 12:32

Never used the word. Wouldn’t ever use it to describe a woman. Awful word.

Rachel Johnson used it the other day when describing the uniforms that the hostesses wore at the presidents club saying they were slutty.

StableGenius · 28/01/2018 12:35

MIL calls the balls of fluff that gather in dark, uncleaned corners of the house 'slut's wool', which makes me laugh.

I hate the 'promiscuous woman' usage though.

HairyBallTheorem · 28/01/2018 12:35

A word that instantly establishes the speaker as someone who is at best highly judgemental of, and at worst absolutely hates, women.

funnylittlefloozie · 28/01/2018 12:36

"slut
[slÊŒt]

NOUN
derogatory
a woman who has many casual sexual partners.
synonyms: promiscuous woman · prostitute · whore · slattern · poule · floozie · [More]
dated"

Oi!! I resemble that remark!

heateallthebuns · 28/01/2018 12:37

I don't think stud is the male equivalent or even used anymore. I dunno what the equivalent is? Male slag? Love rat? Actually I think like someone else said it's someone who sleeps with people's husbands partners and knows that so the equivalent is probably bastard, slimeball or dick head. Used in that context slut is ok I think. But not for someone who has lots of partners or sleeps with someone quickly - that's ok - so then it is anachronistic and misogynistic.

I cannot say I've ever heard anyone use stud as a compliment, only as a reflection on a man who thinks he's very attractive but is actually a dick.

Thymeout · 28/01/2018 12:39

What about slag?

That seems to me more derogatory, because I've heard 'slut' being used in an affectionate, jokey way about, say, a cat who practises 'cupboard love'. And gay men using it about each other. 'You're such a slut'. C.f. 'tart' and clothing, 'slutty' and 'tarty'. Dressing provocatively. Not disapprovingly at all. Just a style of dress. 'I'm going for a slutty look with fuck-me shoes'.

llangennith · 28/01/2018 12:39

My DM and her DM used it to describe a woman who didn’t keep her house and family clean.
