Define slut.

OP posts:

It was consensual from the second time?

So you were sexually assaulted?

If you want to talk about it, I suggest you start a new thread, maybe in Relationships section. Thanks

Just been told about "fuckboy / fuckboi".

It seems that whilst slut is probably gendered, there's a derogative equal and that men are not 'studs' and women sluts. Both are seen as needing to be better people.

LoniceraJaponica · 28/01/2018 14:27

heateallthebuns DD is 17, she and her peers call them “fuckboys”, and avoid them.

“I guess the hypocritical nature of it stems from the idea that it is more difficult for men to obtain sex than women.”

Really? I would have thought it was the other way round.

Firesuit · 28/01/2018 14:39

It was a word used to belittle women who were seen (by men) as too promiscuous.

I suspect the word is more often used by women to describe other women.

I wouldn't call a woman a slut, but if I did, I'd mean it as a compliment. As far as I'm concerned, there aren't enough sexually available women in the world, and I'm grateful for those who make above-average contributions to the happiness of mankind.

" As far as I'm concerned, there aren't enough sexually available women in the world, and I'm grateful for those who make above-average contributions to the happiness of mankind."

Get back under your bridge where you belong Hmm

DogsDoodahs · 28/01/2018 14:49

It’s generally either used to describe someone whose housekeeping standards are slapdash (in which case I’m a slut), or someone who has had a lot of sexual partners (in which case.... oh. I’m a slut 🤷‍♀️)

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 28/01/2018 14:52

A hateful nasty word, same as slag. Even more hateful because there is no male equivalent.

EggsonHeads · 28/01/2018 14:53

Slut=promiscuous.

Tom ate tacos too often and too freely without considering the effect on his waistline. Tom was a taco slut.

BertrandRussell · 28/01/2018 14:53

Oh, please don’t tell me people are pretending men get called “sluts”........

PrincessoftheSea · 28/01/2018 14:59

Makes me think of the Daily Mail

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 28/01/2018 14:59

If I told any of my male friends in a serious way that they are sluts I they would thank me. They’d see it as a compliment and if I said it in front of other people even better Hmm

If I did exactly the same to a female friend she would be hurt and humiliated and most likely twat me.

It’s not the same thing at all. Neither is fuckboy. It’s just not.

rightknockered · 28/01/2018 15:03

I've been called a slut, Im pretty sure a lot of women have. Usually by men that I reject or other women just wanting to be nasty. I hope you're ok OP Flowers

ThisLittleKitty · 28/01/2018 15:03

Thank you! I wanted to say if I called a man a slut I know he would laugh and find it funny, or see it as a compliment. I don't know any women who would see it as a compliment/find it funny.

rightknockered · 28/01/2018 15:04

Also never actually heard a man being called a slut/slag

barefoofdoctor · 28/01/2018 15:06

Vile outdated derogatory term for females who dare to enjoy sex. Usually used by those getting no sex at all.

BertrandRussell · 28/01/2018 15:06

“Also never actually heard a man being called a slut/slag”

Nope. Because they aren’t. Except possibly as a joke. Or between a particular type of camp gay men from a generation or so back.

Demiguisee · 28/01/2018 15:09

A slut to me is any man or woman who is known for sleeping with other people while already in a relationship.

I'm not that bothered about sleeping with multiple people if you're single.v

Demiguisee · 28/01/2018 15:10

But that's just how I use it. I've called my partner an "ex-slut" for what he used to be like in his teen days.

AtrociousCircumstance · 28/01/2018 15:12

Slag and slut are misogynistic hate words.

They are used to denigrate and control women. They are gender slurs and have no place in anyone’s communication.

BertrandRussell · 28/01/2018 15:13

“Slag and slut are misogynistic hate words.”

Which is why some people will be very keen to pretend that they are used for men too.

AtrociousCircumstance · 28/01/2018 15:17

Agreed Bertrand

OP, I can assure you, whatever your memory, whatever you did or didn’t do, with someone who was or wasn’t in a relationship, you are not that word.

It is the same as a racial slur, in that all it really describes is the vile bigotry of the person using it.

picklemepopcorn · 28/01/2018 15:19

Slut is a word used by judgemental people to make other people feel bad. It has little to do with the person it is used about. It has a lot to do with the person saying it.

Demiguisee · 28/01/2018 15:20

They are, just not nearly as much as for women. When I was at school it was a thing for girls to call the "player" boys manwhores or sluts, because they thought it was unfair that only the girls had their sexualiry policed in such a way. It wasn't just a 'joke'.

Obvs not going to disagree that it's gendered, just that it can be used against men if you take the definition to be having loose sexual morals. Personally I don't think being 'promiscuous" means you are less moral than someone who isn't, but I think cheating does, and that's where I'd use "slut".

tenaciousC · 28/01/2018 15:23

BertrandRussell

I don't get the connection. What does "pretend they are used for men too" do to prove they are misogynist hate words?

How about manslut? manwhore? Are they misandrist? Does the recent coining of "fuckboi" show that 'sluttish behaviour' (for want of a better term) is seen as poor form by both sexises? Words can be gendered and that's no problem. Being held to the same standards is all I want and it seems it's being done.

Demiguisee · 28/01/2018 15:27

But regardless, you are not a slut OP.
