As he left for work this morning my husband said he would be back a little later (around 8pm) as he was going for a drink. It's now midnight, i have heard nothing from him and he is still not back nor is he answering texts or calls.

Most times he goes out he does this eventually rolling in drunk after getting the last train. It does my head in! Not so much the coming in much later than he said, more the not answering my calls. As I have no idea if he is okay. He then gets annoyed by me being annoyed.....

So who is BU? He genuinely believes I am but it's him, right? Would love to know what other people think.

What an idiot! Sorry! But it’s fine to go out and then want to stay longer - you then let your other half know as that’s just plain having manners!!

I always do it when I'm pissed wish my partner would leave the sodding house just once

YANBU. If someone tells you they will be back around 8 pm well that is when you would expect to see them. If there is going to be a delay, in this day of mobile phones everywhere a message to let you know is just courtesy. Different when there were no ways of easily making contact. I wouldn't check up on him, leave him to it, go to bed and not even mention later. If that's how he wants to conduct his night out then why should you bother. You obviously won't change him.

Well what a waste of time that was... op never came back and a lot of deleted messages. Mumsnet why was this on your ‘top thread email to me?!!’

Lottie it was quite fascinating at the time as suddenly 2 people popped up talking what seemed to be an almost different language out of nowhere!

I dropped OP a message asking if she wanted to start a new, more serious thread (hopefully without trolls!)
