To ask whether you would become a royal if given the chance

Imagine yoy had the opportunity to become a royal. Would you take it?

I would love the money, the prestige and the legacy.

But I dont think I could hack the pressure or criticism.

So personally on balance, I would say no.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 12:01

No.

Kursk · 27/11/2017 12:02

No

-having to deal with the media
-Having to be around people
-Having to live in London some of the time

Each one of these would be a deal breaker on its own

PodgeBod · 27/11/2017 12:02

No. I’d hate being famous (I could get on with being rich Grin)

AlpacaLypse · 27/11/2017 12:04

Absolutely no way!

munkynutts · 27/11/2017 12:06

@PodgeBod

I could deal with being famous for amy other reason - you can still be your own person.

But being famous as a royal means upholding certain behaviour which surely to god must be so stifling and frustrating.

Kate will never be able to hit the town in fishnets.

Harry will never be able to stand outside a pub with a fag being like "you're havin a fuckin laugh mate!"

William will never be able to get pissed in public.

OP posts:
Codlet · 27/11/2017 12:06

No. All the royal duties would be SO boring!

Understatement · 27/11/2017 12:08

Nope. I think it's completely immoral to rely on the labour of others to fund your life. Particularly when you're already minted. I'd never be able to look anyone in the eye ever again.

Had an excellent conversation about this yesterday with my children. Spawning the next generation of republicans nicely Grin

Emillee · 27/11/2017 12:10

Spawning the next generation of republicans nicely

Not to worry, I'm nurturing two staunch little Royalists at Chez Emillee. 🤣

But in answer to your question, OP no, I wouldn't want to be Royal in a million years.

ZigZagandDustin · 27/11/2017 12:11

Hell yes. Imagine the access to all those beautiful buildings and places. There are some downsides but being treated as special everywhere you go would make some things really easy. Also the experiences they get! The people they meet! How fascinating and privileged.

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 27/11/2017 12:14

No way. The pressure, media attention and royal duties sound just awful. I have a job I love and nobody pointing out if I put on 2 lb or wear an ugly hat. And no pressure to have more babies!

Trills · 27/11/2017 12:18

No fucking way.

I'm about the same age as Kate and have always said that if I met a boy I liked at university and he turned out to be the heir to the throne it would put me right off.

MaidOfStars · 27/11/2017 12:19

I’m not a monarchist so might have to object on principle. But if I fell in love with someone where marriage would make me royalty, O wouldn’t give that up.

And William can’t get pissed in public?

Nikephorus · 27/11/2017 12:19

No, I have a work ethic. Doing one engagement every blue moon would drive me mad.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 27/11/2017 12:23

No, maybe a very minor working royal though.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 27/11/2017 12:24

No. I love just popping to the shops for some milk, or pootling around the park with the dogs. I think I'd feel quite claustrophobic if I couldn't just walk out of my house.

Don't get me wrong, there would be some up sides, but lack of freedom would probably drive me insane. I don't think I'd enjoy being famous at all.

SporocystianLifeform · 27/11/2017 12:26

I would be there like a shot! I am not well and the thought of never doing anymore housework or cooking again would fill me with joy!

PrimusInterPares · 27/11/2017 12:27

I would

ImADingleDangleScarecrow · 27/11/2017 12:28

No chance. I couldn’t my every movement and appearance being under constant scrutiny. Maybe if the Daily Mail went into liquidation I’d consider it.

sinceyouask · 27/11/2017 12:30

Absolutely not. No way. I am republican. I am against all forms of monarchy. There's no way I would love someone enough to marry them if they were a royal who hadn't actively given up their position anyway.

Who would want to do any of that anyway?

MrsHathaway · 27/11/2017 12:31

Lawks no.

Being famous in any way must be absolutely rubbish at least 50% of the time.

otherdoor · 27/11/2017 12:32

In some ways, yes. I think I'd enjoy the lifestyle. I'd also like to have as many kids as I wanted without having to consider finances.

All the scrutiny and press intrusion and people discussing and criticising me would drive me mad though. I remember the first time I read a thread about Kate Middleton on here and I just couldn't believe how bitchy it was about her appearance and clothes!

ConfusedLivingDoll · 27/11/2017 12:33

I'm a republican, but poor, and need money for DS with SEN and to pay off my debts, etc. So, yes. Why not. Then divorce and run with the money.
