To ask whether you would become a royal if given the chance

munkynutts · 27/11/2017 12:00

Imagine yoy had the opportunity to become a royal. Would you take it?

I would love the money, the prestige and the legacy.

But I dont think I could hack the pressure or criticism.

So personally on balance, I would say no.

I'd like to try on all the jewels like tiaras and such. And wouldn't mind a ride in a carriage. But on the whole no. I'd rather do things on my own merit that be somebody because of who I marry or who my parents are.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 27/11/2017 12:37

I so would! Maybe it's this running of a household thing getting to me, but at the moment I can think of nothing better than having all my day planned out for me. I imagine, get up in plush surrounds, eat lovely breakfast (that you didn't plan or cook) in plush surrounds, have beautiful, perfectly fitting dress brought in. Have hair and make up professionally done then put on gorgeous shoes and have chauffeur drive you somewhere. People all stare adoringly at you for a few hours and laugh outrageously at any small joke you make. Everyone says how good and understanding you are if you talk to a common person. After half an hour have costume change and be driven to next appointment. Repeat for a few hours then jet off somewhere for a well-earned break. Spend the rest of your time never doing housework of any sort ever. Yes, I so would be a royal.

AppleKatie · 27/11/2017 12:37

I think I could do it 😂

Pros:
Gorgeous houses to live in
Amazing buildings to spend time in, just looking at the architecture/art etc would be amazing.
Not having to cook/clean/shop etc except for when I actively wanted too.
Money.
Luxury travel.
Staff to help with the shit bits of life- e.g., private doctors and night nannies.

Cons:
Be all over the papers for crap clothes (but staff can help with that)
Be all over the papers for being too fat (staff, private doctors, personal trainers etc and money, private gym etc... would also help with that).
Royal engagements often boring (probably true but I could focus mainly on the architecture/amazing aspects and cope with the monotony if I knew I was going back to the pros list very soon).

munkynutts · 27/11/2017 12:38

Im not trolling with this question:

Clearly having heirs is important if you are a royal. What would hace happened if kate turned out to be unable to have childrenm

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 27/11/2017 12:39

No I'd absolutely hate it.

Boynamedsue · 27/11/2017 12:40

God no, I was reading this morning about royal protocol at Sandringham (in the fail to my shame). I'd get the clothes all wrong, spill caviar down my top and fall down the stairs. Even if someone gave me the clothes to wear they'd still look creased after 3 minutes despite being beautifully pressed immediately beforehand. I don't think I'd fit in...

Understatement · 27/11/2017 12:40

But Smeaton employers/people that sell things are also workers.

Or if they don't work now, they presumably did work until they could.

It's this notion of their inherent betterness, and us as their subjects.

Subjects of people who think it's hilarious to dress up as nazis, who we know were nazi sympathisers, really just cannot get on board with that shit.

Although to be fair, it wouldn't matter if they were whiter than white. I don't believe any human is entitled to privilege more than any other purely because they came out of one vagina rather than another.

MrsHathaway · 27/11/2017 12:41

Actually I think the engagements bit would be the good bit. I like visiting new places and I like people to tell me what they do for a living. It's very heavily vetted so you'd have a heavy balance towards very interesting and worthy projects.

And occasionally a 4yo falling over her own feet giving you a fistful of daisies. That would be bloody amazing.

But the constant scrutiny would be hellish. And if you really need a sick day you'd know that whoever was expecting you would be really annoyed or upset by your absence. It's a big deal when Royalty are on their way, and being snubbed (even for excellent reasons) is awful.

Understatement · 27/11/2017 12:41

OP, if she couldn't have children there would never have been a wedding.

munkynutts · 27/11/2017 12:42

@Understatement
Are you serious? Do they send potential brides for fertility testing?

Realistically there's a lot of "reliable" people already in the line of succession, so it wouldn't have been a big deal except to Prince Harry whose life would have looked different.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 27/11/2017 12:44

Well that's just it isn't it. Nobody outside of that family will ever get the chance of being royal.

Because it's reserved for one fucking family.

Yes, you may have the opportunity to marry into royalty, if you move in those circles, but due to antiquated hereditary privilege, it ain't gonna happen.

allegretto · 27/11/2017 12:44

No, I have a work ethic. Doing one engagement every blue moon would drive me mad.
No. I have a work ethic and I wouldn't want to work as hard as they do. Never mind retiring at 67 - the Queen is still working!

MrsHathaway · 27/11/2017 12:44

I think Prince William has the kind of sense of duty that would mean he would have given someone up who knew she couldn't have children (eg someone who'd had to have a preventative hysterectomy or something).

Unexplained infertility is another thing entirely. Where there's nothing medically wrong with either party but for some unknown reason no joy.

BadLad · 27/11/2017 12:45

In the UK, no way. In Japan, even worse.

Thailand, other European countries, the UAE (Dubai or Abu Dhabi), I'd love it.

whiskyowl · 27/11/2017 12:45

No, absolutely no way. I'm a republican but I feel personally very sorry for the royal family. I genuinely, hand-on-heart think the life looks absolutely hellish. No amount of cash could compensate for not being able to go anywhere without bodyguards and publicity.

KC225 · 27/11/2017 12:46

No, despite me really enjoying The Crown. They seem really dull.

Also, can't help thinking Harry is well punching above his weight - it's Rachel from Suits. But wish them good luck though

munkynutts · 27/11/2017 12:47

@MrsHathaway
But I mean most people dont find out they cant have kids until they start trying and its not working.

So if that had been the case for him, would the focus just have moved to Harry as an heir?

Imagine if Harry didnt have kids either - who is next in line after Harry?

I don't think they leave that stuff to change @munkynutts

Understatement · 27/11/2017 12:50

To chance gah Grin

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 27/11/2017 12:51

There have been plenty of queens throughout history who couldn't supply the necessary heir. Wills can just make his own religion, right?

NumberEightyOne · 27/11/2017 12:52

I'd be hopeless. You have to be poised and diplomatic and have swishy hair and look lovely in nice dresses to be Royal.

Clandestino · 27/11/2017 12:52

No, never, thank you.
I'm a staunch Republican and find the idea of a family enjoying privileges only because how they were born instead of going through the usual route of education, career and achievements abhorrent.
Also, that life comes with so many restrictions I wouldn't wish them on any normal person who just wants to let out a silent but deadly in a supermarket from time to time without seeing it in the Daily Mail the next day.

MrsHathaway · 27/11/2017 12:53

Wikipedia is good on this.
