To ask whether you would become a royal if given the chance

Imagine yoy had the opportunity to become a royal. Would you take it?

I would love the money, the prestige and the legacy.

But I dont think I could hack the pressure or criticism.

So personally on balance, I would say no.

I watched the programme Mary Berry did about the 'real' Downton Abbey and despite all my political persuasions I did really envy Lady Carnarvon's life.

Skarossinkplunger · 27/11/2017 17:25

I’d do it for the travel opportunities alone. But only for 5 Years. Then I’d write a sensational tell all book, give all the proceeds to a trusted friend and fake my own death.

HildaZelda · 27/11/2017 17:31

The never having to worry about money ever again side of it would be lovely, but the rest of the pressure, no thanks. I don't think I could do it. Perhaps it's easier as a minor royal. Though everytime I see a photo of Mike Tindall with the rest of the royals he always looks as though hes thinking "What did I marry into?!"
In other words, would I take Kate or Meghan's place? No thanks.

stevie69 · 27/11/2017 17:44

Er no. The world is not ready for Princess Stevie. I have none of the qualities that would make a good princess; my mum told me that when I was around six and I wanted to marry Prince Edward; she's a wise woman and was spot on Grin

LazyDailyMailJournos · 27/11/2017 18:30

No chance. The world's eyes on you 24/7. Never being able to go on holiday without being papped - don't forget that just because you don't see the pics published here doesn't mean that they go incognito. The foreign paps are ruthless and couldn't give a shit about 'protocol' - being long lensed whilst in your bikini, looking a bit sweaty and everyone pulling you apart online.

And that's before you get into the security risks and the need for close protection. Or the 'duties'. I have never felt as sorry for Kate as when she was standing outside hospital having just had George, for the photocall. Absolutely knackered and likely worrying about if she had a lochia leak. You could not pay me enough to do it.

brasty · 27/11/2017 18:33

Actually although I would do this, I would never get past the screening process. And if I was born into it, they would have taken me away to an isolated country, banishing me and pretending I was too ill to do Royal duties.
Either that or I would be the left wing version of a Boris Johnson royal family member. And the Queen would be permanently apologising on my behalf.

RaeSkywalker · 27/11/2017 18:35

No- I feel claustrophobic just thinking about it!

ForalltheSaints · 27/11/2017 18:37

No.

Until 2015 I was not eligible being a Catholic. To be honest I never found most of the female royals of my age or similar not my type.

confused123456 · 27/11/2017 18:37

I would hate it. I wouldn't like being told what I have to do or say or wear, or how to act and so on.

BritInUS1 · 27/11/2017 18:43

No chance

blackteasplease · 27/11/2017 18:45

Not compared to my actual job, family etc. although would take it if it meant getting rid of stbxh!

But yes compared to many people's lives.

MrsHathaway · 27/11/2017 19:21

Until 2015 I was not eligible being a Catholic.

Catholics are still excluded. The recent changes only reinstated those married to Catholics but not Catholic themselves.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/11/2017 19:40

I'd do it at the drop of a tiara. I'd like to have Sophie Wessex's role - she gets to go to all the foreign weddings and be mates with Queen Maxima who I reckon would be legend on a night out in Amsterdam.

Nazdarovye · 27/11/2017 19:46

No way! It's a shit life in many ways. The best thing is to be anonymous. You can truly be yourself. If you walk down the street scratching your butt or eat a hamburger on the bus your picture won't be plastered all over the tabloids the next day. Ah the bliss of being a fucking nobody!

YellowMakesMeSmile · 27/11/2017 19:49

I think it's completely immoral to rely on the labour of others to fund your life.

So just like every SAHP, benefit claimants of any kind etc? There's millions of those and few royals.

I'd hate the constant press, the intrusion of privacy but would the charity duties.

Anymajordude · 27/11/2017 19:50

I'm probably a bit too left wing and opinionated. Having said that I would relish being able to really make a difference to charities and good causes. I'm a fairly dull person so wouldn't worry about creating scandals although I'm sure magazines would have something to say about my weight fluctuations. I'd also love having a nanny for my kids and a chef to feed me healthy dinners.

On balance yes, I would.

londonrach · 27/11/2017 19:52

No way!!!!!! Never never never.

RavingRoo · 27/11/2017 20:19

My skin colour is the same as Megan’s, and having seen the racial abuse she’s suffered via the media (including MN) I am grateful I didn’t fall in love with a famous person / royalty.

Puppymouse · 27/11/2017 20:24

Not on your Nelly. Constant scrutiny, obsessions about my weight, my wardrobe, my appearance and having to be nice to people regardless of what might be going on behind closed doors. No thank you.

Tainbri · 27/11/2017 20:26

Absolutely no way!!! Guilded cage! All that having to be on display, having to go to boring functions and dinners, having to give a speech in public, having to look perfect, being judged at every turn, have the press rip you to shreds.... The only perk I can think of is express medical care with a private room with the best consultants available any time of the day or night and no waiting on the NHS and never having to worry about the bank account but even that isn't worth the loss of freedom. Nope, no way.

badg3r · 27/11/2017 20:30

I would hate to be famous in any capacity. I would especially hate being a royal. Absolutely no real freedom and constant criticism from the press.

However, I'd love to know a Royal well enough to get all the gossip on what they really thought of people they met, places they went, current affairs etc. But I am incredibly nosey Wink

QueenOfAllISurvey · 27/11/2017 22:09

@YellowMakesMeSmile don't be silly. There's a world of difference between living a life of luxury paid for by people who won't make in a lifetime what they spend in a month, and someone on benefits who lives a shitty hand to mouth existence or a parent when chooses to stay home while their children are young. Hmm

ScreamingValenta · 27/11/2017 22:14

I'm a republican, so no on principle. If I were to become one, I'd make sure I looked always looked dowdy and boring so the media weren't very interested in me.

stella23 · 27/11/2017 22:29

Harry will never be able to stand outside a pub with a fag being like "you're havin a fuckin laugh mate!"

What like this?

To ask whether you would become a royal if given the chance
aplaceinthesun · 27/11/2017 22:47

Visited Buckingham Palace recently and it looked utterly crap. It made me feel quite sorry for them. At one stage a bedroom? light went off and I wondered if one of them was looking out the window with 100's of tourists taking pics of the front of their house. It must be like living in a goldfish bowl.
