At a 19yr Old Transwoman being elected a Labour woman’s officer

Seems the old WO stepped down after alleged bullying and accusation of transphobia. The new WO is a 19 yr old Transwoman - i think who made many of The allegations against the previous WO.

What experience has a 19 yr old TW got to hold this post - weirder than weird.

I'd wish I'd know early that make up and clothes were what made me a woman.

I had thought it was stuff like having a vagina, the chromosomes I possessed and all of that.

Had I know it was simply the make up I would have stopped wearing it and earned 18% more for the last 20 odd years. Plus I could have stopped being the one to remember to send birthday cards to DH's family.

And it would mean lesbians are not women.

I've didn't renew my membership for this sort of thing this year. How can a party represent me if they can't even define woman?

This young man is clearly troubled.

He is fairly inarticulate and clearly doesn’t give the slightest toss about women.

More than happy to make women feel uncomfortable, he out right admits that he simply can’t understand why he was initially prevented from using the bathroom that gave him the most comfort.

(But, apparently hired a lawyer, to push his point home).

This isn’t even about trans rights versus women’s rights.

This is about hiring someone who appears woefully under equipped to deal with life, much less representing the political views of women.

If you have any problem with boys using the girls toilets then you are literally killing children.

I actually agree about the uniform, it’s ridiculous that boys can’t wear skirts they should just have the same uniform, if it’s smart enough for one sex it’s smart enough for everyone, but bathrooms are a totally seperate issue.

cat it wouldn't have made any difference. I've never worn makeup and I've only just won my equal pay case - and then only because my Union took it to court. And I've been in the workplace for decades. Makeup, no makeup, you're screwed either way. One might almost think it had something to do with those pesky xx chromosomes.

If its anything like our CLP, the position could have been vacant anyway, and he just proposed himself and someone seconded. Its hard to get people to do these jobs because its alot of time and no pay. Not even expenses. Its not a one stop glory party

It’s all so manipulative, conflating seperate issues and saying they are the same thing or are connected to each other is total gaslighting.

Teenage suicide and bullying is not a trans issue, it affects teenage girls as well and they don’t have an army of flag wavers telling them how ‘brave’ they are. Rigid gender roles is shit for everyone. Has anyone done any research into bullying and suicide of girls who have spoken against wanting boys in their space?

Is it mean to hope that this teenager will be deluged with constituents wanting to discuss discrimination during pregnancy, maternity leave, abortion rights, teenage mothers, breast cancer care, #MeToo, sex discrimination, assault, HRT and work-life balance?

Cis-sexist and transmysoginistic to be worried about these issues. Discussing female issues would greatly pain a transwomen as it would remind them that they will never actually be female. So fuck off with the bigotry in bringing such problems to the most oppressed in society. A male person.

Yes, even a 19 year old natal woman would be unlikely to have sufficient lived experience to be able to do the role adequately.

SabineDeux there's always been misogynists in the Labour Party, same as every other party, but I'd disagree entirely with your post, because Labour has also always been full of brilliant, feminist women who have helped make life better for other women. Equal Pay act, abortion rights, and all the rest of it. I won't ignore or discount their work, or the work of the women still in the Labour Party who are fighting for women and girls.
