At a 19yr Old Transwoman being elected a Labour woman’s officer

bambambini · 20/11/2017 08:48

Seems the old WO stepped down after alleged bullying and accusation of transphobia. The new WO is a 19 yr old Transwoman - i think who made many of The allegations against the previous WO.

What experience has a 19 yr old TW got to hold this post - weirder than weird.

I think this will all come to a head when it starts affecting the men too.

This is the nub of the problem - around half the population couldn't give a flying flip about this stuff - and even if they did, it's the kind of subject where nothing can be said that won't cause a steaming pile of opprobrium to fall upon the speaker.

Women's Officers are perceived (rightly or wrongly, I've known both kinds) to have spent the last umpteen decades being vile about men, and the men in dresses are apparently not men anyway, which does rather leave it as not-a-problem-for-the-men.

I'm no psychologist, but I can't understand why we can sensibly treat anorexia as a serious mental illness sometimes requiring patients to be sectioned whereas being deluded about your sex is not just normalised, it's even seen as providing a job qualification.

NettleTea · 20/11/2017 17:57

Its not going to affect the men.

Its like rape. They wont think about it until it happens to their wife/sister/daughter/mother

Elendon · 20/11/2017 18:12

like the trans debate in general there are massive problems in the country and in the labour party

You're not wrong there @runners656

HouseholdWords · 20/11/2017 18:15

I don't want any inexperienced, self-obsessed, appearance-obsessed teenager, whose only campaigns seem to have been 'let me wear a skirt' and 'tell that woman to stop being mean to me', telling me how to woman

Who furthermore participated in online comparisons of her looks and the woman she harassed into resigning, along the lines of "I look more feminine"

If proof were needed of the infantilising effect of puberty blockers & more than usually arsey teenagers, there it is. How will a transwoman be able to speak to adult women about the POLITICAL issues around maternity, fertility, reproductive health, equal pay, equal ay for work of equal value (oh we've all overlooked that one in the last few years of trying to survive), and so on.

ArcheryAnnie · 20/11/2017 18:15

yet on mumsnet theres more outrage over this person than the antisemitism and various labour mps o'mara

You are mistaken, runners. It is, amazingly, possible for some of us to be outraged (and active against) both antisemitism and against the misogyny and homophobia inherent in trans activism. If you haven't seen this, that's down to you, because it's there.

id point out you would only need to have a womens officer if you believe many people in the clp are sexist and would not include women. conservatives dont have them because they dont need them

...OK then. You don't know much about the Conservative Party, do you?

Elendon · 20/11/2017 18:25

The Conservative Party doesn't have a woman's officer. They do have loads of women who are very happy to take the back seat and support from the bench.

I expect someone will come along soon and say that they have had two women as leaders.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 20/11/2017 18:29

I said that already, actually. When the Labour Party manages same I’ll not mention it again, promise.
The Conservative party has had campaigns and organisations built around women - generally focussed on increasing the number of seats they hold. This is no doubt because of the conservative party’s touchingly old fashioned belief that its power and influence is best served by winning elections. Not a philosophy labour looks inclined to embrace, with this nonsense going on.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/11/2017 18:30

I havent a hope as a reported TERF

Or as a woman...

DearyDearyDeary · 20/11/2017 18:42

Runners - if the Labour party needs Women's officers, I think best they are Women.

IsaSchmisa · 20/11/2017 18:43

Runners could you tell us how many words we have to have written about Jared O'Mara before being allowed an opinion on this?

ArcheryAnnie · 20/11/2017 18:44

NettleTea I am furious because (like a lot of other women) I contributed to that fund. Do you think there's any point in me writing in?

I still don't understand how anyone who had "rape.com/savillesapprentice" on their social media profile could be elected to anything at all, never mind women's officer. (I presume those screenshots are real?)

This is ridiculous. World going mad.

Nope, not at all. I believe its called progress. I'm guessing you thought the world was going mad when 'same sex' marriage was introduced. Honestly, why does MN accept this transphobia?

HouseholdWords · 20/11/2017 18:47

@NettleTea I just wanted to say thank you for yours and your colleagues' actions in your group resignation. And for your continuing support and solidarity with Ms Ruslyo

ArcheryAnnie · 20/11/2017 18:49

user1492877024 you do realise, don't you, that trans activism is pretty homophobic? Many of us who have been part of the LGBT+ umbrella for decades are horrified at the current situation.

And this thread is about a male teenager (Lily has no GRC certificate) who bullied a lesbian out of a post. This same male teenager had "rape.com/savillesapprentice" on their social media profile. You OK with all that, then? You think putting someone like that into a women's post is "progress"?

Lancelottie · 20/11/2017 18:49

Nope, fully in favour of same-sex marriage and able to separate the two issues, thanks. You?

ZooeyAndFranny · 20/11/2017 18:50

On the one hand I am grateful to MN and particularly the feminist board for educating me on these issues but on the other hand I feel totally depressed and disempowered.
The trans train is unstoppable

OrderMeACurry · 20/11/2017 18:52

I'm guessing you thought the world was going mad when 'same sex' marriage was introduced. Honestly, why does MN accept this transphobia?

I'm way too sober for this shit.

BeyondAssignation · 20/11/2017 18:54

Wine curry?

PricklyBall · 20/11/2017 18:55

Hi Curry, good to see you around again! Come over to the pub - ginger beer (my current tipple of choice due to tummy bug) available if you want to stay sober, also tea, coffee, etc.

catgirl1976 · 20/11/2017 18:57

No I was and am massively in favour of same sex marriage.

Which is so far removed an issue that you might have well have said "I bet you thought the world had gone mad when cross rail was announced"

The extremes of the trans agenda is incredibly homophobic. Lesbians don't exist and those that don't want to suck lady dick are bigoted vagina fetishists. Men who are attracted to men are not gay they are women. A lot of LGB people are very opposed to this current incarnation of the "T" which is now nothing to do with transsexuals as it was when it was originally added.

MissionItsPossible · 20/11/2017 18:57

It's not transphobia it's not accepting that a man putting on some lipstick and a dress and saying "I am a woman" is a woman. FFS

MissionItsPossible · 20/11/2017 18:58

Me included quite frankly

LineysRum · 20/11/2017 18:59

Just looked at the Twitter archive. 'Savile'sApprentice' ffs. Ducking disgusting.

FlowerPot1234 · 20/11/2017 19:00

I believe its called progress.
Millions believed the earth was flat. So what is your point?

I'm guessing you thought the world was going mad when 'same sex' marriage was introduced.
Why do you choose to guess that?

Hmm
Datun · 20/11/2017 19:03

user1492877024

You might want to look at Owen Jones thread on Twitter. Any number of furious gay men who are vociferously pointing out to him how his support of trans-activism directly erases homosexuality.

You might also want to know that many of the women who post here on this issue are lesbians.

I honestly can’t believe people are still trying to pretend that this has anything to do with gay rights.

We see you.
