To alert you to the fact that Topshop just changed its policy to let men into the women's changing rooms

YouStoleTheBowlFromTheRoom · 07/11/2017 18:16

Been made aware of this today: a 'gender fluid' man having a pop at Topshop because he wasn't allowed to use the women's changing rooms at their Manchester store:

twitter.com/travisalabanza/status/927198660089339904

Topshop have now been quoted as apologising to him, and saying they've changed their policy to get rid of sex-segregated changing rooms altogether.

Another shop to strike off the list. Am I the only one worried this is past the point of no return? Angry

I hate to add to your blood pressure, but there is a Facebook site that updates the sorts of things on that video.

It’s also called This Never Happens (because that’s what transactivists say).

Unfortunately, for some reason I can’t link to it. But it’s the first thing that comes up on fb when you google the name.

RosaTheOwl · 09/11/2017 10:55

that # has a tweet from someone saying "children must get used to seeing women's penises" and I can't even tell if it's a joke or not.

Pandapenguin · 09/11/2017 10:59

Thank you @datun i am reading it now. Not quite the same but this is all starting to feel a bit Buffalo Bill to me now. There seem to be so many alterior motives to these people wanting access.

I'm scared by the Danielle Muscato tweets shared here re if you have a problem 'if you don't like it suck my dick'. It's so aggressive and intimidating. Don't want to deal with that in a changing room thanks.

BatShite · 09/11/2017 11:02

If they start telling men and woman to share a cubicle I’d see the point, for now this is just another non-issue for snowflakes to protest about.

Surely the only snowflake protesting in this case is the 'gender fluid' narcissist tbh.

All of those saying its just a changing room and such. The male changing room is also just a changing room. So surely, the same argument goes for people wanting into the females because they don't want to be in the males...'noone can see' 'noone goes in changing rooms to perv' and so on. Quite why is the male area so unsafe for trans people, if the arguments thrown at females who don't want males in their space true?

It’s a new account set up by feminists. They also post under Merman (a play on mermaids, the trans pressure group).

They are, quite effectively, lifting the lid on all this by subverting it.

Datun · 09/11/2017 11:08

Daniel Muscato tweeted that suck my dick tweet, whilst taking a place in a women’s homeless shelter (his parents had thrown him out) on International Women’s Day.

And yet, we are being told we must consider him a woman and centre him in feminism, whilst tells us how to be proper feminists.

A misogynistic, narcissistic man with a fetish. Yup, that’s the definition of woman, these days.

RosaTheOwl · 09/11/2017 11:09

Datun - maybe I'm thick but one reason it took me a while to realise what was happening is that the language is incomprehensible to me.

I'm 41 but sadly I know people in their 20s who would take that comment completely seriously. In the same way I'd have said "it's not a problem for kids to see gay couples kissing" they would say "children have to learn women have penises".

And then you add in the whole problem of privacy going out the window and what's happening with school policy - and I think that people who support Travis could easily interpret that "parody" as something real and something expressing support.

More worryingly, politicians will do the same. I've written a few letters and the responses i've had have all regurgitated bizarre crap which I strongly suspect the letter writer themselves might not have understood.

I must admit, I have a bit of thing about "subversion" on controversial subjects because I think it's asking people to be very well informed when the starting point problem is often lack of clarity - even more so with this one.

sorry but I am even wondering if some posters here are still working with an old definition of "trans" and thinking the world's Travises had their dicks removed, and those posters will have disengaged many pages ago because they thought we were all just being horribly discriminatory

BatShite · 09/11/2017 11:14

Good. Let's have sexed rather than gendered changing rooms then.

We already have sexed changing rooms though. Not sure why some seem to think changing rooms are segregated by those who like to wear dresses and those who like to wear trousers. All areas where males and females are segregated are segregated on sex, not 'gender'.

Pandapenguin · 09/11/2017 11:22

@datun i see through him. Shame lawmakers don't.

Vile. Infuriating. Patronising. Frightening. Insulting. Piece - of - shit.

This contributes nothing to the debate i just wanted to write that. Any woman knows it's never a good thing when a man tells you to suck his dick as a threat if you don't agree with what he says. Travis has also written similar on twitter.

Not the kind of invitation that makes for consensual or enjoyable for the biological woman when dick sucking is involved.

TheEgregiousPeach · 09/11/2017 11:52

Batshite that is exactly the point I'm making. It is TRA's who brought gender into the equation- I am identifying as a women today so will use the women's changing rooms rubbish.

I would like sex segregated areas kept that way- dividing along the lines of what's between your legs rather than between your ears, to put it crudely.

I am a bit riled up about the sheer arrogance of TRA types like Travis so maybe didn't make that clear in my previous post- venting because I'm getting angrier and angrier.

You’re not being thick, it’s a bloody minefield. My very first comment on one of these threads, years ago, was what’s a breast binder? It was incomprehensible to me that a young girl would want to bind her breasts and claim she’s a boy.

I agree with everything in your post. There is a reason why the term ‘drunk the Kool-Aid’ is used.

And the Emporers New Clothes.

There is a blindspot. But, as transactivists get more complacent and open with their aggression and nutty statements, People do begin to see it.

And when they do it hits them with the force of a sledgehammer.

That’s how ‘peak trans’ was also coined.

Rebeccaslicker · 09/11/2017 12:27

I couldn't find the travis friend interview if it was this morning, but this came up on a google search on the same point and I thought it was interesting:

The group he is talking about, action for trans health, were indeed linked to the punching of a woman at speakers corner.

I was on the train to the meeting following their shenanigans on fb, in real time.

They were calling for people to shut the meeting down. As the venue was secret, they were telling everyone to phone every single possible venue within a 20 minute walk. To lie out who they were in order to ascertain if the meeting was to be held there.

The person who was eventually arrested posted let’s fuck some terfs up. Post that was ‘loved’ by action for Trans health.

The most shocking part about all this, is that very same group were consulted last year by Maria Millers women and equalities committee about drafting the new law.

Yes, it’s that stupid.

CoolCarrie · 09/11/2017 12:47

We shouldn't be giving that bastard green any of our money anyway!

pisacake · 09/11/2017 12:48

"I'm 41 but sadly I know people in their 20s who would take that comment completely seriously. In the same way I'd have said "it's not a problem for kids to see gay couples kissing" they would say "children have to learn women have penises"."

Some of this is very confusing.

See if you can work out the biological sex and sexual preferences of both questioner and the subject of their question:

www.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/77fd6y/why_are_there_so_many_straight_trans_women_on/

Datun · 09/11/2017 12:59

pisacake

I’m guessing he is born male, identifies as female. Is attracted to men, but wants a straight man, not a gay man?

RosaTheOwl · 09/11/2017 13:00

Datun " My very first comment on one of these threads, years ago, was what’s a breast binder? It was incomprehensible to me that a young girl would want to bind her breasts and claim she’s a boy"

oh I completely understand the breast binding but that's a whole other conversation!!

pisa, that whole thing is a mystery to me.

but this goes back to why I don't think a parody account helps. I agree they have the right to set it up of course, but I think it will probably cause more confusion than clarification, but meh, they can do what they like.

I suppose it's just this issue where I get so annoyed - it's like having to set out a whole bunch of definitions before you can even ascertain what everyone is talking about.

ironically these are times where the Daily Fail type media outlets will be the only help we have.

I think I need a lie down now!!!

Pandapenguin · 09/11/2017 13:07

I keep reading about these attacks and violence. I can't do anything about the fact that most of these gender fluid transfemme people are about a foot taller than me and stones heavier than me. Except, like other people, seemingly get punched and physically assaulted.

I find this so intimidating and I'm really wound up about it. If a Travis squared up to me in a changing room I physically would be defenceless.

I'm disgusted xkfbcpsbxlsnxkdbdkdjdodndkdndb at the government for consulting these types of groups 'let's go fuck up some terfs'. WHAT IS HAPPENING??!!!!!

Signing off for lunch and an angry stomp walk to tescos.

Rebeccaslicker · 09/11/2017 13:07

Jesus that's awful!

CoolCarrie · 09/11/2017 13:10

As pp have said, how will this person feel any safer in a mixed changing area? It is bizarre. Why does he just buy the clothes and try them on at home, as many of us do anyway? He is an attention seeking arse

Akire · 09/11/2017 13:13

Surely if you are sort of bloke who fancy’s giving someone a kicking for wearing women’s clothes you can just walk into the ladies and do it there.

phoenixAgainAgainAgain · 09/11/2017 13:18

Why is acceptable to call trans people 'fetishists'?

Datun · 09/11/2017 13:19

rosa

oh I completely understand the breast binding but that's a whole other conversation!!

Absolutely. I totally understand that, it wasn’t quite what I meant. Women who feel the need to subjugate their female anatomy should not be told to go right ahead, and call yourself a boy.

The underlying reasons for it need to be addressed. And I’m sure we all know what they are.

What I found difficult was the normalisation and acceptance that women will feel like this, but guess what here’s a mechanism to accommodate that feeling, rather than address it.

Scabbersley · 09/11/2017 13:20

Why is acceptable to call trans people 'fetishists

Are you actually reading what people are saying or just picking out words to suit you?

Some are, yes. Not all.

Scabbersley · 09/11/2017 13:21

The Daily Mail won't help us. They hate women.
