Rumours have been circulating about this disgusting man and his sleazy casting couch for years... He has offered a half-hearted apology, but seems rather smug about the fact that his family are supporting him.

AIBU to think his wife is misguided? What sort of example is she setting to her daughter? After all, this isn't a one-off - it is a pattern of serious abuse of women over decades.

It is interesting to see how many actresses are producing films nowadays. Reese Witherspoon was on Graham Norton recently and she is producing, as is Angelina Jolie, so maybe, just maybe the tide is slowly turning.

CoolCarrie · 11/10/2017 14:57

Ivana wrote about the experience in her book and it was taking out of the manuscript due to trumpet having a word / covering it up.

Capricorn76 · 11/10/2017 14:57

Also someone said upthread that black people are not expected to be blamed for racism against them. Are you kidding me? I'm mixed race and I've seen people accusing victims of causing people to be racist by complaining about it 'too much' as though complaining about the crime is worse than the crime.

Some people just automatically blame the victim. It's strange and I'd love to understand the psychology around this behaviour.

another20 · 11/10/2017 14:58

I'm wondering why this has suddenly blown up now. I wonder who he's pissed off....... Trump?

gluteustothemaximus · 11/10/2017 15:02

Here's my history:

Age 6 ish - famous man kissed me on the lips. I felt awful. (mother laughed, told me it was just a kiss)

Flashed at age 9 (are you sure that's what you saw?)

Neighbour telling me age 10 ish I was growing up in all the 'right' places (parents dismissed this as harmless)

Man groped me, legs and up to vagina, I was 10/11 he was in his 70s. In the back of a car, no escape (response was, oh, that's what he's like - he's harmless)

I was subjected to sexual assault, coercion, by a man in his mid twenties when I was 13-14. I didn't go to my parents, I went to the church elders (response was, what were you wearing? Are you sure you didn't encourage him?)

15 - raped. I know that now. At the time I thought I had agreed to it, but I really hadn't. I said nothing. I was horrible, and I bled. I told NO ONE. He was nearly 30.

After that I have lost count of how many times I was propositioned by married men, witnessing men on work trips sleep with other women (even though married), bosses who feel you up at work, make lewd comments, and anytime you mention anything it's always 'that's the way he is' 'what were you wearing' 'did you lead him on'.

I don't know what can be done Sad

I'm wondering why this has suddenly blown up now. I wonder who he's pissed off....... Trump? Yawn

guilty100 · 11/10/2017 15:11

Terry Crews has said he was groped by a Hollywood executive, but didn't say anything for fear of retaliation and misreporting. Terry Crews! If a 240lb American Football star, with muscles the size of cannon, is afraid and doesn't know how to react, that tells you something about the type of institutional power at work in these tremendously entitled abusers.

Flowers for all those who have suffered unwanted advances, assault and rape. Which I fear is the same thing as saying flowers for everyone on this thread.

BAFTA have suspended HW's membership: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-41586442

Will the Oscar's committee follow suit?

Mominatrix · 11/10/2017 15:22

I'm wondering why this has suddenly blown up now. I wonder who he's pissed off....... Trump?

No, probably not Trump. My bet is on his brother.

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 11/10/2017 15:22

Heartened to hear she’s leaving him!

Terfing · 11/10/2017 15:27

Could this have anything to do with Hugh Hefner's death? I keep expecting some stories about him to surface...

CaveMum · 11/10/2017 15:29

Whilst I doubt that Trump has anything to do with this story breaking (despite HW being a vocal critic of Trump), his people will be making hay with it. It's the perfect opportunity for them to sling mud at the Democrats, so they wont let the story die whilst it helps to serve as a distraction for Trump's base.

CaveMum · 11/10/2017 15:30

Terfing, did you read the piece that circulated on Facebook about Marilyn Monroe and Heftner? It was so sad to read, I'll see if I can find it.

derxa · 11/10/2017 15:31

another I apologise for being snide it was uncalled for. Trump and HW are two sides of the same coin. But we're discussing HW here.

CaveMum · 11/10/2017 15:35

@Terfing, here it is:

"This is Marilyn Monroe.

Maybe you've heard of her or seen other pictures?

She was a human being.

She was born the same year as 91-year-old Hugh Hefner who died this week.

She married at 16 years old to escape the foster care system. A few years later, while trying to break into modeling and acting, she posed for some nude calendar photos to earn some food money. She was paid $50 to take her clothes off and smile.

She used a fake name to try and distance herself from the photos.

"I don't know why, except I may have wanted to protect myself. I was nervous, embarrassed, even ashamed of what I had done, and I didn't want my name to appear on the model release."

A few years later she was given her big break and started playing eye candy in motion pictures. Hugh Hefner was building his brand. When he decided to start his "gentleman's magazine," Marilyn Monroe had become a household name. Hefner bought the rights to her earlier shots from the girlie calendar people for $500.

Without asking the actress, Hugh Hefner put her on the cover of his first issue which read "First time in any magazine, FULL COLOR, the famous Marilyn Monroe NUDE."

When asked about it, Monroe had this to say:
"I never even received a thank-you from all those who made millions off a nude Marilyn photograph. I even had to buy a copy of the magazine to see myself in it."

The system did its work on Marilyn Monroe, and she died at age 36 after being digested by the culture that consumed her. She died with money but not a lot. More money has been made by her brand since her death; even today you can see Monroe products being hawked.

Then in 1992 the grave next to Marilyn came up for sale, and Hefner purchased it for himself, gloating in the status that he would be her eternal bedmate.
Dead Marilyn made no comment.
Fifty-five years dead, and now the Playboy is about to pull up the sheets of her tomb and crawl on in.

Hugh and Marilyn never met.

She never consented to anything, from nude photos in Playboy to eternal bedfellows, because he never asked; he never even said hello.

The woman who looked her whole life for love . . . ends up with Hef. The man who spent his whole life ignoring the humanity of women and having his way ends up lauded a civil rights hero.

I don't know that any story defines this asshole more than this one.

Rest in Power, Norma Jean.

(By Sarah Vaughn Patzel)"

Justbreathing · 11/10/2017 15:53

@Worrynot1
I didn't know that about the grave. that's sickening. actually made me shudder

CaveMum · 11/10/2017 16:03

Zoe Brock tells Victoria Derbyshire about HW getting her to his hotel room under false pretences: twitter.com/victorialive/status/918123646161432577

DeleteOrDecay · 11/10/2017 16:03

I knew about the grave. Didn’t know he had never actually met her though, I bet many others don’t know that either. That is beyond creepy.

DarthMaiden · 11/10/2017 16:14

That article on High Heffner made me feel sick.

Exploiting her whilst alive clearly wasn’t sufficient - he had to exploit her place of rest to enhance his own reputation. Utterly revolting AngryAngryAngry

CupboardLover · 11/10/2017 16:42

User Flowers

Getout21 · 11/10/2017 16:52

I hope so guilty.

It's interesting now everyone is condemning HW but as another poster said does Bryan Singer get a pass?

DarthMaiden · 11/10/2017 16:58

@Getout21

Personally I’m hoping this represents the start of the floodgates opening...

Rose McGowan has definitely got the bit between her teeth - she’s wielding Twitter like a lethal weapon - good on her.

She’s getting a lot of support as well (finally) as more people are speaking out.

DarthMaiden · 11/10/2017 17:04

Asia Argento and her partner, (chef) Anthony Bourdain are also pulling no punches on Twitter...
