In the super market today and heard a mum shout "beige" to her daughter...no joke! At first I thought I had misheard Paige...but no, definitely beige.

Got me thinking... what are the worst names you have come across?

Norman Reedus (who plays Daryl in The Walking Dead) has a son called Mingus. Definitely has me a bit Hmm every time I read it.

Trampire · 02/10/2017 11:45

Yes I agree it's hard to beat Glumdalclitch.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 02/10/2017 11:47

Carwen (I think it’s welsh) and Broc, when I first heard them, the kids suit their names now!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 02/10/2017 11:48

Okay, I was wrong about Timotei being Spanish Timothy. My niece went to nursery with a Timotei and my sister told me that was its origins.

whattobeexpected · 02/10/2017 11:50

I think neveah is a beautiful name! But depends how popular it is in your town, I've only met one years ago and it suited the little girl! They pronounced it (nevayah?) I have took a double take when I heard someone shout BJ but not their problem, was my warped mind 🙈

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/10/2017 11:51

Robotic Ainsley is a perfectly normal girls name in Scotland. It's a surname used as a first name which is pretty common up here.

The issue I have with Mackenzie is nothing to do with how it sounds or whether it suits the child, it's that you've named your child Son of Kenzie. For a girl it should be NicKenzie if you want to go down that route.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 02/10/2017 11:52

I Heaven/Neveah thing always seems really bizarre to me, because I've always been under the impression (at least from watching horror movies) that inverting a Christian symbol or name makes it satanic.

Footle · 02/10/2017 11:54

Neveah isn’t Heaven spelt backwards, obviously.

PoppyPopcorn · 02/10/2017 11:54

Nevaeh is bloody awful. But there are another group of people so dense that they don't get the "heaven backwards" bit and spell it Neveah. Which would be Haeven.

Who cares how you pronounce Nevaeh, I pronounce it "fucking dreadful".

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/10/2017 11:55

Mingus is how the neame Menzies is traditionally pronounced e.g Menzie (Mingus) Campbell.

In the same way as Sinjun is the prononciation of St John.

chipscheeseandgravy · 02/10/2017 11:55

Saw a post of Facebook and a woman had 2 boys both double with barrelled first names and the names were basically -Lee and the other was called -Leigh .

Had a customer send some ID into work and the poor guy had 2 double barrelled names, first name and surname was double barrelled, he also had 3 other middle names.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/10/2017 11:55

Neveah is a pretty name I like it

Then I have one of those names that was thought of as a silly name when I was young and was embarrassed by my name now it isn't and will probably be considered a chav name at some point

But I like it and now I'm often told it's a lovely name

DressedCrab · 02/10/2017 11:56

People complain about these threads and get all snooty but if this thread can make people think twice and can prevent daft parents inflicting names on their poor kids that will get them teased for life, I'm all for them.

Nadinexo1 · 02/10/2017 11:57

For all those who posted about the name Khaleesi are you sure it wasn't actually khaleesah? which is actually an Arabic name and I often hear it and think of GOT then realise I've misheard and it's khaleesah. maybe I'm just deaf and stupid.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/10/2017 11:57

Oops spelt it wrong Nevaeh

LadyFlangeWidget · 02/10/2017 11:58

LORCA

thegreylady · 02/10/2017 11:59

When dd was young (early 80s) we knew someone who called her little girl Ada Muriel at the time we were all shock, horror, saddling a little baby with a name like that. I bet it's really lovely and trendy now! I can't think of a single truly horrible name although some are associated with ex students whose behaviour/attitude was a bit off. Dale springs to mind Grin

grasspigeons · 02/10/2017 11:59

Moat names grown on me to be honest. The one I struggle with is Cain. I just fear for his younger sibling.

LadyFlangeWidget · 02/10/2017 11:59

Titus Montague

RantyMare · 02/10/2017 12:00

Darrenie. Friend of a friend's niece.

squoosh · 02/10/2017 12:00

Gobnait. (pronounced gub-nit)

There will never be a name uglier than Gobnait.

Gingernut81 · 02/10/2017 12:00

I went to school with a Trafford (as in the football ground). Also taught a Myste and an Amethyst.

Alloftheboys · 02/10/2017 12:00

I hate when people butcher the spelling of a girls name (to make it more cute?)

Katie into Caytee
Amy into Amiee
Makes my eyes itch Hmm

BluthsFrozenBananas · 02/10/2017 12:01

I spelled it wrong too, after getting the origins of Timotei wrong I think I'll just give up on this thread Grin .

CryingMessFFS · 02/10/2017 12:01

Nadine the one I heard was 100% Khaleesi, I've seen her around a few times and it was definitely not Khaleesah
