Thanks for the new thread. Have posted most of the previous threads, but have name-changed. I and Scottish but have both American (mostly democrat all but 1 horrified by Trump) and UK relatives (outside of my immediate family (DH, DCs they are mostly Tory, UKIP, Brexit supporting).

Uk relatives are shrugging shoulders and wondering why I'm getting worked up about white supremacist marchers in another continent- they've swallowed the whole moral equivalence thing, hook line and sinker... all the protesters were in the wrong... you can't stop people marching just because you disagree with their views (and therefore), the anti march protesters brought this on themselves, they provoked it.

They don't see either, that what happens in America affects us here in the UK (and the rest of the world) too, and they think this is America's business, none of our concern. I despair Sad

Hi lettuce Smile

To add to your list Bigly ...

It seems completely ridiculous now but just before he won the Election I remember we on here, and in the press, were musing about whether he would give up Twitter. I wonder what his Presidency would be like if he didn't tweet regularly. TBH I am glad he does, because it shows up his awfulness and it might well be used by Mueller. Apart from the tweets about NK of course.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 15/08/2017 08:31

Apologies - posted twice!

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/08/2017 08:31

Effic I finished the book last night - when I got to the bit you mentioned I wanted to C&P it here. I felt exactly as you did about it. And about the book in general too - the beginning was good, the rest not so much.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/08/2017 08:58

But everything the book President and 'Mac' did/said I could imagine the RL counterparts doing/saying.

Fekko · 15/08/2017 09:00

I saw his posts on one member of an advisory board who quit.

It really was the response of a child who wasn't invited to have cake 'I didn't want cake anyway. you are a big smelly poo anyway and your cake is smelly pop too'

I'm finding that I can't stomach American films or tv just now - all that wise cracking, I'm right, big gobs taking on 'the system ' and the love of a good conspiracy turn just turns my stomach.

I prefer to watch that nice White House documentary with Kevin spacey.

LuxembergerQueen92 · 15/08/2017 09:31

Long time lurker and occasional poster just wanting to add my thanks to all the posters here and afar keeping us so informed on the goings on in the US. Never before have I been so invested, interested and horrified by American politics - just when you think the ginger one has gone as low as he possibly can he sinks even lower. I have a question - in the aftermath of the appalling events that unfolded in Charlottesville is it possible that the far right/white supremacists may actually instigate the downfall of Trump? I mean by coming out of the woodwork and showing their true colours and by Trumps too little too late condemnation of their actions - could this be the point where sensible educated republicans say this is not right and not what I voted for. It would be kind of ironic and hugely satisfying if he is forced from office by the repulsive actions of his own supporters.

MsHooliesCardigan · 15/08/2017 09:32

Bigly I totally agree. I just don't see how anyone can do the mental gymnastics to convince themselves that 45 is a normal President. He's in his 70's, it's very difficult for anyone to make major changes to their behaviour at that age.
He started off as he meant to go on with his 'America first' speech and the blatant lies about the size of his inauguration crowd. I know none of us were under any illusions about what sort of President he was likely to be but I didn't envisage Nazi marches within 7 months of his inauguration.

Roussette · 15/08/2017 09:40

LuxembergerQueen92 I've wondered that too. However, these odious individuals are so deluded that I wonder where it's going to lead. I read online from a trashy link that it was the poor girl's fault for getting killed as the car was being attacked and he just put his foot on the pedal to escape. Hmm

And they are blaming everyone but themselves. More gatherings like this are planned and let's hope at some point enough is enough.

I also didn't envisage his 'reign' as POTUS would be as bad as this and I wonder if public opinion has shifted a bit since Charlottsville and perhaps the worm has turned. But I've said that more than once in the last few months...

catgirl1976 · 15/08/2017 09:41

I would like to apologise my little outburst last night. I had had rather a lot to drink and found my tolerance levels somewhat lacking.

I just find it hard to stomach people watching actual Nazi's being encouraged and enabled by the POTUS and saying "Well yeah, no one likes Nazi's but hey if it gets 'Mercia white people more jobs then I'm willing to overlook that" and then also praising Trump for things that haven't actually happened or if they have happened are not something he has influenced

I'm all for Trump supporters coming on this thread as I would love to hear their rationale but it needs to be backed up with some actual facts.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/08/2017 09:44

Eep

It's official. There has never been a POTUS as --vile-- unpopular as Trump. Sad! Trump cont.
PerkingFaintly · 15/08/2017 09:45

Oh goodness, catgirl, I don't think you have anything to apologise for at all.

Maybe I'm just rude myself, but I didn't think you said anything out of order at all.

AND you knew what you were talking about!Wink

MicrowaveSpy · 15/08/2017 09:47

Morning all Brew

Firstly an apology, I didn't mean to start this thread on such a sad note. I had listened to Heather Heyer's mother and it really upset me. She could have been one of us. Doing what she thought was the right thing to do and being killed for it. I know this happens throughout the world everyday but this time it felt personal.
I now wonder if SCROTUS will try to attend her funeral and make it 'all about him..' Sad

Welcome new and old posters Cake You are welcome to debate and share opinions but if you feel the need to say anything remotely like 'return to your echo chamber' or 'safe space' I ask you to take your goady posts somewhere else.

All regulars - please don't apologise for your humour! It's what keeps us persisting

catgirl I don't think you have anything to apologise for - you had charts and everything to support what you were saying and weren't merely making false assertions.

BananaFrenchToast · 15/08/2017 09:48

Luxemberger - he may be orange, but he's no ginger!

PerkingFaintly · 15/08/2017 09:50

What context is that from?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/08/2017 09:50

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/08/2017 09:51
