Thanks NorthWest for the L.A. Times guide.

lionheart · 15/08/2017 01:04

The thing is, if all the ludicrous claims about Trump's triumphs were true, it still would not be worth it.

lionheart · 15/08/2017 01:04

Oh dear. He is trying to visit NYC.

There is a welcome.

Lweji · 15/08/2017 01:07

I'd love to have a Trump fan who really engaged and answered questions.
Bots OTOH are mildly amusing, but clearly a waste of thread space.

annandale · 15/08/2017 01:08

Fire, fury and placemats.

Lweji · 15/08/2017 01:11

Well, did anyone say anything about fascists?

Kursk · 15/08/2017 01:41

I am not a Trump supporter, but I am not anti Trump. Right now he is certainly maintaining his air of unpredictably.

Kursk · 15/08/2017 01:49

My wider family all voted Trump, my step mum voted Clinton, I voted Johnson

Here is a link to US companies doing business with the Trump family.

It's very clear Bannon has to go. I'm all for free speech but someone like him shouldn't be in such an influential position.

I have no idea who is advising Trump but they are absolute idiots. He won the election on reducing the cost of healthcare and no more military activity. His actions this past month have lost him those voters who pushed him over the edge in swing states.

The democrats need to get a couple of good candidates together. It's not Elizabeth Warren and it's not Corey Booker. I'm praying someone can talk Bloomberg into running.

TheClaws · 15/08/2017 05:13

I don't think Bannon is going anywhere, sadly, Supermum. He's pulling the strings in the WH and writing the speeches, ie. is the de facto POTUS. He's Trump's comfort blanket plus he does much of the actual work I would guess.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 15/08/2017 05:19

Why not warren or booker? I'm not well versed enough to know why that'd be a problem

In Trump's view, the "truly bad people" are not neo-Nazis and white supremacists but those who expect a POTUS to condemn them immediately

Thanks for the new thread, pity our new trump-bot didn't last long.

Roussette · 15/08/2017 06:54

Welcome new posters! Kursk were you around back in the day of claig? I sort of recognise your name, apologies if I've got it wrong.

Plenty of protests in NYC for Trump. Lots of banners saying 'New York Hates You' and chanting that. He blocked some sleb from twitter for saying 'everyone hates you' so it's obviously a phrase that touches a nerve with him. It's the first time he's been back to Trump Tower since his inauguration and he slunk in the back door and no one saw him.

Roussette · 15/08/2017 06:56

So the odious David Duke has had a meltdown at Trump's comments on the KKK.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/08/2017 07:14

It didn't seem that way last week

The USA being threatened is always good for an American president though thankfully things feel different this week after the weekend

The public (in all countries) can be politically very fickle

BiglyBadgers · 15/08/2017 07:29

Nice new thread. Sorry to see I missed the appearance of the trumpettes. Welcome back Kursk!

Lweji · 15/08/2017 07:47

Right now he is certainly maintaining his air of unpredictably.

Which begs the question.

What are you for?

Trump is not a religion or a sports club.
His actions have consequences in real life for real people.

Is unpredictability a good thing for a leader?

BTW, I don't think Trump is unpredictable at all. He told everyone what he was like and what he was for (deep down) before the election.

More fools those who voted for him, or for anyone without a chance of bearing him.

So, for or against people having healthcare?
For or against respect for minorities and for women?
For or against respect for civil liberties?
For or against gIving shelter to the persecuted?

For or against world stability?
For or against science?

Those of you that can - keep pressurising the other companies still involved.

BTW, I don't think Trump is unpredictable at all. He told everyone what he was like and what he was for (deep down) before the election.

Absolutely agree with this. Nobody should really be surprised that trump is like this. But they didn't listen did they, instead we had:

"It's just an act, he will tone it down when he wins"
"He's new to politics, he will grow into the role"
"He's playing a smart Comms strategy to gain votes from the disengaged. He doesn't really believe this stuff"
"See, he made a speech following the autocue. This is the moment he became presidential"
"He just isn't like other presidents and that's what people like about him"
"The media only show the bad stuff"
"This is just the way he is and how he does things"
"Of course he doesn't support the far right, his son in law and daughter are Jewish"
"The stuff he says through Twitter is just how he connects directly to his base, it doesnt reflect what he is really thinking and doing in office"

People and the media have spent months tying themselves in knots trying to turn Trump into an acceptable president. Trying to justify his actions and apply a logic to them that they just don't have. As is often said on mumsnet: "listen when someone tells you who they are". Trump has been clear from the start what and who he is. It is time people actually listened to his words and acted instead of sitting on the fence waiting for him to suddenly peel of his skin and reveal a reasonable human underneath.
