AIBU to think this is totally grim

My SIL is not short of a bob or two. She's late forties, no children and 6-figure bank balance. She's also as tight as a duck's arse.

During a chat, she said she her friend was popping over (she won't drive anywhere. Petrol costs money, ya know) to drop off some bras. I assumed her friend had bought them on line for her (she won't pay for internet at home nor will she buy/book anything on line with her card) and was delivering them to her. But, no! These were her friend's old, used bras that she was chucking out and that SIL had begged she give her as bras are too expensive to buy new.
I was horrified but SIL can't see anything wrong with wearing someone else's scabby old second-hand bra that's not even in her size! AIBU to think this is grim???

It's not any of your business though, is it? Nothing wrong with second hand clothes.

scurryfunge · 03/08/2017 18:25

That's why she is not short of a bob or two

AmyGardner · 03/08/2017 18:25

I dunno, is it any more grim than any other second-hand piece of clothing? Once they're washed?

emilybrontescorset · 03/08/2017 18:26

It is grim especially as she is rich.
Surely second hand bras have stretched /molded around the original owner.

Mumof56 · 03/08/2017 18:26

Do you have an opinion on other underwear she wears? This is not really your business.

MeltorPeltor · 03/08/2017 18:28

Maybe you could give her your judgey pants too as you've clearly outgrown them.

DrJZoidberg · 03/08/2017 18:30

Yanbu. Underwear is one to buy new if you can afford it.

PinkHeart5911 · 03/08/2017 18:30

I wouldn't say grim and you aren't going to be wearing them so what difference does it make to you?

BarbarianMum · 03/08/2017 18:31

Meltor Grin

StuckInARut41 · 03/08/2017 18:34

Hahahahaha sorry op but I love tight-but-not-short-of-a-few-quid people, some of the penny pinching is hilarious! If you can, try and watch 'Still Game' as there's a character called Tam (Thomas) just like this. (I take the coffee sachets from hotels for my friends Mam who likes caravan holidays ;) )

ZaraW · 03/08/2017 18:34

I could understand it if they were the correct size but they aren't. So yes it is a bit grim.

Bluntness100 · 03/08/2017 18:36

Yup grim. Underwear, pants, bras, tights, socks, should be bought new if you can afford it. Defo you're not BU.

TheyDoItOnPurposeLynne · 03/08/2017 18:37

Maybe (in fact definitely) I'm quite scummy but I really don't see the problem with this. Its not like she's wearing someone's unwashed knickers!

oldlaundbooth · 03/08/2017 18:37

Bit grim. But you don't make money writing cheques do you?

Mumof56 · 03/08/2017 18:39

How do you know she has a six figure bank account? Have you been snooping at her statememts?

OrphanAccount · 03/08/2017 18:41

I honestly can't see what's grim about second hand bras? Presumably they've been washed. Can't understand why she'd want to wear something in the wrong size though.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/08/2017 18:44

Yanbu but you sound very dramatic about it.
I read something on here about second hand cloth nappies the other day and thought that had reached a new level of grim.

JacquesHammer · 03/08/2017 18:45

I honestly can't see anything wrong with second hand bras.

Or second hand cloth nappies.

Things wash

nodogsinthebedroom · 03/08/2017 18:47

Brilliant Moltor Grin

Nothing at all wrong with second had clothes.

thepumpk1neater · 03/08/2017 18:48

"I read something on here about second hand cloth nappies the other day and thought that had reached a new level of grim"

I've given away cloth, nappies, and covers. They're soaked then washed thoroughly at high temps, shame to waste them.

thepumpk1neater · 03/08/2017 18:49

superfluous comma there!

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 03/08/2017 18:51

Well obviously there's nothing wrong with second hand clothes but I draw the line at second hand underwear. 🤢

thepumpk1neater · 03/08/2017 18:51

I expect that's only part of why she is wealthy, though Grin

I know of somebody who manages private school for all her children (4), and insists it is because they never buy new clothes (this is true, even uinderwear is handed down, apparently). Those school costs would still be beyond many people I think.

Lanaorana2 · 03/08/2017 18:52

The meanness is grimmer than the saggy old bras. Neither of them look very appealing.

c3pu · 03/08/2017 18:53

I'm pretty tight fisted in most areas of my life, but it enables me to buy myself new underwear 😂😂
