My vagina is on fire !! Help

Iamembarrassed · 25/07/2017 11:52

Not literally you understand but more of omg it's beyond ridiculous type pain.
I have just finished a course of antibiotics/painkillers and got what I thought was thrush so brought some canesten and thought that would do it, however it has done nothing and i have the most intense itching/pressure/feeling like I've had intense sex/burning feeling that is going no where!
I have slept with a ice pack in between my legs and have seriously contemplated putting Ice in my vagina at this point.

Any solutions wise mumsnetters ... there are no doctors appointments for 4 days, no walk in clinic nearby and the pharmacist said they weren't sure as they can't examine me ... if I have to last four days like this I may kill someone

I'm going to try all of these things !!

Good god...STOP putting things in or on your vaj on the say so of internet ransoms and arrange to see GP asap...out of hours?

VestalVirgin · 25/07/2017 18:32

a old woman decided she would like to talk me into buying a different yoghurt because the one I was buying wasn't as tasty as the one she recommended apparently and why would I waste my money on the one I picked when the one she was recommending was cheaper and tastier and after making general noises about looking for something specific she wouldn't shut up about how it tasted nicer and so I said I didn't care about taste as it was going in my vagina !

Heh, that's awesome!

I am sure she will be a LOT more reluctant about telling other people what to buy in the future. If anyone deserves to get more information than they wanted, then she's that person. Grin

Before you put more things in your vagina, try eating some raw garlic. No need to put it where the infection is, garlic permeates the whole body (which you can smell), and it is a regular food, so no dangerous experiment. (Just foul-smelling, but I don't think you will go to work anytime soon ...)

counterpoint · 25/07/2017 18:33

For me, the only live yogurt that works is Total Greek yogurt (not style but the real one, called "Total" ). It has 5 strains of bacteria and no other yogurt has this. I try and dab as much as I can of a spoonful inside and around the area and it soothes quickly and leaves me clear for months.

Iamembarrassed · 25/07/2017 18:34

I have been tested within the last few months so it's not a sti and the only things I have put inside me were canesten related items so vagina safe items and well now the yoghurt/ice the other things have been external so my vagina is not rebelling against the items (well except the bv one) it is rebelling against the two lots of antibiotics I have had and about the ones it's going to have soon !!

It is not worth calling out of hours because I am not dying or in any danger ... I mean others are if they come near me but that's more four day annoyance than anything else

Also I'm wondering if these things affected men there would be many free solutions available just like that !! Bloody expensive vagina !!

Oh god I feel your pain! Post antibiotics thrush is a pain.
And yes I agree treatments are expensive.

My two cents would be to try the canesten cream plus the oral tablet (generic fluconazole is cheaper than the Canesten branded one), see if that shifts it as a team effort.

Having said that, you've tried a few things, so I do second getting an opinion from a GUM clinic (they know all about this kind of stuff, not just STDs).

agentdaisy · 25/07/2017 18:45

Stop using anything else op, difficult as it will be. Everything you've tried seems to be making it worse. You may have had a reaction to the initial canestan which is why nothing is helping or is making it worse.

Phone 111 and see if you can get an out of hours appointment. You could have a bad bout of thrush which needs more than the usual pessary/tablet and cream or you may have given yourself a chemical burn from all the creams.

As an aside, most pharmacies will sell you a medicine syringe for about £1 to save buying calpol just for the syringe.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 25/07/2017 18:50

I had vulval eczema for 8 months. I feel you pain OP.

agentdaisy · 25/07/2017 18:51

Thrush can get pretty nasty if left or initial treatment doesn't work. I've had thrush that wouldn't clear and ended up with the skin splitting. That area is high risk for infection in cuts so I wouldn't leave it if there was the option not to.

If you're dead set against out of hours then phone your GP first thing and tell them you need to be seen that day not in four days time, or go to the nearest GUM or whatever it's called now clinic and they should be able to see you within a couple of hours.

donajimena · 25/07/2017 18:58

No one is saying its an STI I was 99% certain mine wasn't (but I had heard of herpes coming out years later hence my fear)
I complained to my mother who joyfully told me it was my age and suggested I try a Replens.... made it ten times worse. I went to my GP who told me to go to clinic. Which is why I and other sensible posters are suggesting you stop putting crap up there and get yourself seen.

fruitbats · 25/07/2017 19:04

Tali can I just ask what you use? I suspect that I have vulval eczema

Pebbles1989 · 25/07/2017 19:12

Sounds like herpes to me, too. If it is (and I'm not saying it is), natural yogurt will make it feel worse. I agree with all those who say you should get an STD test. The nurses have literally seen it all before; it's nothing to worry about and probably preferable to the way you're feeling now (regardless of the diagnosis).

Pebbles1989 · 25/07/2017 19:14

P.S. I'm sure a doctor will be along to correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think herpes could be reliably tested for unless you have an active lesion, i.e. false negatives are very common.

WomblingThree · 25/07/2017 19:14

Why do you keep spending stupid amounts of money whilst refusing to see an HCP?

How many people have to tell you that you are going to damage yourself before you listen?

CouldntMakeThisShitUp · 25/07/2017 19:41

could be bacterial vaginosis which is a bugger to have and sometimes needs a couple of courses of antibiotics

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 25/07/2017 20:07

Fruitbats. Had various creams for it, including steroid ones given to me by a specialist. I have Oilatum cream for any minor flare ups. I also had Aqueous cream to wash with.

fruitbats · 25/07/2017 20:22

Thanks Tali

madmother1 · 25/07/2017 20:38

I feel your pain. I had AB a week ago to treat a bladder infection and suffered dreadfully with thrush afterwards. I've started eating this from Tesco. As they say....every little helps.

Haffiana · 25/07/2017 20:45

Also sitz baths, and yoghurt inserted via tampon applicator, with maybe a drop of either tea tree or lavender oil.

Please NEVER put tea tree or lavender oil on any inflamed or irritated skin or especially on a mucous membrane such as the vagina. It can cause a massive allergic response and leave you allergic to a wide variety of substances. Neither of these oils should even be put on normal healthy skin without diluting them to 2 parts in a hundred.

MagdaS · 25/07/2017 20:55

I used the BV pessaries as recommended by sexual health clinic after BV diagnosis, which I thought was thrush (along with 7 days worth of metronidazole) and it stung like fuck. Did the trick though, symptoms had disappeared the following morning.

manglethedangle · 25/07/2017 20:56

vinegar. Any you've got (not balsamic). Splash it over the fanjo. Sounds like it'd hurt but it'll be blessed relief.

ElsieMc · 25/07/2017 20:59

Op, I feel your pain. Last year I was unlucky enough to contract whooping cough and my GP gave me antibiotics to prevent me spreading it. I then thought I had the usual thrush backlash.

Dashed to the chemist for canesten. Still burning a few days later and I felt terrible. I called in at my dd's on another trip to the chemist for more canesten and whilst there I felt tired, agitated and just wanted to go home. I took a pee and I was peeing bright red blood (sorry tmi). Rang 111 and has to go in to out of hours. I could barely drive myself. Had a severe water infection and I was told that some women do mix them up. First time for me.

I think you need checking out op. Don't keep self medicating. My "virus" was whooping cough, which I passed to my pregnant dd and my "thrush" a severe water infection.

Mind you, when I see my gp I still always tell him what I think it is.

MrsChopper · 25/07/2017 21:10

Sorry, but some of the 'advice' on this thread is awful.

Stop putting things on or in or arpund your vagina fgs! You've probably caused more irritation with all the stuff. You need to see at least your GP, preferably someone from the GUM clinic to get it diagnosed and treated accordingly.

kali110 · 25/07/2017 21:17

Go get a thrush pessary or internal cream.
Buying stuff for bv when it doesnt sound like bv is pointless.
I do have bad epiSodes of this and either of these gets rid of it.
I've never been refered anywhere by my gp Confused
