in recognition of the fantastic work their staff do for very ill children. Please join me if you are able to do so.

I'm bit skint this month but I will do the same come payday. Agree with your sentiment- they've had a rough ride in the media the last couple of weeks unfairly x

mygorgeousmilo · 07/07/2017 19:40

I made a big donation at Christmas, and recently after my son was a patient there. But I'm with you on this, they are incredible, and don't deserve all the mud slinging. The whole sorry situation is awful.

Mumzypopz · 07/07/2017 19:44

That's really nice of you, but don't think you should push other people to do so.

16middlenames · 07/07/2017 19:51

Since this is AIBU I'll say well done, it's very lovely, but YABU for the not so discreet humblebrag....

MozzchopsThirty · 07/07/2017 19:53

YABU for bragging about donating money and encouraging others to do the same

Like those fuckers who come to my door Angry

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 07/07/2017 19:53

really not bragging, 16, just so sorry to see the vitriol being directed towards the hospital staff.

Its not unfair. There's nothing wrong with the media questioning those who think they have authority over others.

washinggotdarkedon · 07/07/2017 20:00

GOSH's income for the last financial year was £394.3 million. I'm sure they appreciate your £50 as much as we appreciate you telling us you donated it.

Callamia · 07/07/2017 20:12

Thank you.
I used to work there, and several of my friends have had children treated there. I agree that the work that happens there is phenomenal, and any extra support (financial or not) is welcomed.

Lotsofsausage · 07/07/2017 20:16

washinggotdarkedon I hope you're not implying that because their income was a certain figure last year that they don't deserve/ appreciate donations? Much of that income comes from small donations. Unless you have a breakdown of GOSH's expenditure for 2016-17? GOSH audited and are 100% transparent about their finances. Do you have nay idea how much it costs to run a regular hospital, let alone one specialising in expensive specialist medical research?
And thank you OP for sharing, it has prompted me to donate too as I wouldn't have thought of it otherwise. Ignore the trolls.

That really is not a lot for the running of a hospital. A paediatric ITU bed is at least 2k to run per 24hrs, just for the basic care.

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 20:20

And yes, they have had a rough ride, being called murderers and defamed while not being able to defend themselves.

16middlenames · 07/07/2017 20:20

We aren't trolls for having an opinion @Lotsofsausage Confused

BabsGanoush · 07/07/2017 20:25

Nice to see those posters having a go at the OP - why? Are you all jealous? Or just an opportunity to be nasty?

It's all for a good cause and you never know in the future someone close to you may need to use their services.

nocoolnamesleft · 07/07/2017 20:28

I think it is lovely that you are visibly showing your support to a much beleaguered great team, who are doing their best under very trying circumstances.

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 07/07/2017 20:29

really wasn't showing off, I was just appalled at the awful things being said against the staff, and wanted to assist as I think they do a great job.

OP posts:
MozzchopsThirty · 07/07/2017 20:29

Baba that's absolutely right, no one is knocking the op for donating
But why start a thread telling all and sundry you've done it and encouraging them to do the same

It's a bit crass

milliemolliemou · 07/07/2017 20:30

washing - not sure what your point is. Confused

Yes, their income was £394.3m, though the board report doesn't seem to indicate how much was NHS and how much charity. Their surplus was 2.9m. They serve not just London as we know but England and Wales as well. A single child who needs treatment in ITU for long periods can cost many hundreds of thousands of pounds which no one would question. It has 17 IC beds for chidren and 9 for babies - which are fully occupied. To say nothing of the wards for recovery and long-term but not critical treatment.

And presumably they have to put money aside for legal cases as well as ongoing research and reviews.

I'm happy to match Didyou.

GrandDesespoir · 07/07/2017 20:30

Ignore the trolls.

I don't see any trolling on this thread. Bragging; yes, people having an opinion; yes, but not trolling.

Matthew 6:1-4. Hmm

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 20:31

MozzchopsThirty why is it 'crass' to show support for a children's hospital that has been trashed in the media recently and has had threats to have its donations stopped.

Have you namechanged to be nasty or just joined for this thread?

mydogisthebest · 07/07/2017 20:36

I think it's great that the OP has donated and I see nothing wrong with starting a thread when there has been so much negativity towards GOSH.

I intend to set up a monthly direct debit - maybe you would all like to slag me off too?

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 07/07/2017 20:43

in answer to the question why tell "all and sundry" I have donated:-

  1. no-one in real life knows I've donated. 2) And i am saying it here in an anonymous forum because i want to give the staff a morale boost which i think is much needed when they are receiving threatening messages.
OP posts:
Bloomed · 07/07/2017 20:43

Bravo OP.

NerrSnerr · 07/07/2017 20:46

It's obvious why the OP started this thread, those having a go are probably deliberately missing the point. I have donated in the last week as I wouldn't want children and families to not have top care and support because the hospital have paid out huge legal fees?

WomblingThree · 07/07/2017 20:50

It's the amount that has rankled I feel, not the act. For some people that is all they have to last a week and there is now way they could afford similar. It was totally unnecessary to say how much you donated OP. I have no issue with you doing it or starting a thread about it, but its crass to put a figure on it.
