in recognition of the fantastic work their staff do for very ill children. Please join me if you are able to do so.

OP posts:
TheWeeWitch · 07/07/2017 23:34

For you OP Flowers. I donated too, and bought some GOSH merch (my lovely mugs - see them now on the other thread Wink!) for the same reason that you did.

Sorry that your well-meaning post brought on some crap comments.

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 23:59

I can't afford to donate, wish I could. But I sent them a fb message of support and they sent a lovely one back. Maybe this could be an idea for people who don't have money spare to donate atm.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2017 00:47

Don't forget there are other children's hospitals in the U.K. Treating children just as sick, and don't get anything like the media coverage or the donations. Instead of donating money to GOS what about giving it to your local children's hospital instead. Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle. Leeds, etc etc

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/07/2017 00:50

The vitriol has come from about 50,000 people on facebook

Who in the main can't spell

That's all I have seen ! I wouldn't worry about those crazies

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/07/2017 00:50

But it's nice you did that Smile

Rossigigi · 08/07/2017 01:03

I can not afford to donate at the moment however I did send a message on facebook in support of their work and received a nice reply. I believe every little helps.

LynetteScavo · 08/07/2017 06:50

It was a nice thing for you to do OP.

I get that you want to show your support, and encourage others to do the same.

A bit odd to post the amount you donated though. That was the crass bit.

KoalaDownUnder · 08/07/2017 06:55

I don't think it was crass, and I don't think the amount was 'piddling' (Hmm how rude).

Good on you, OP.

TenForward82 · 08/07/2017 06:56

I think reaction would have been better if OP had titled the thread "To ask you to join me in donating money to GOSH" instead of "I gave them money... Oh, and you should too"

I haven't come across a single bit of GOSH bashing or abuse. This shite that gets posted as news that people believe terrifies me.

have you been living under a rock for the past few weeks?

listsandbudgets · 08/07/2017 07:17

I make annual donations to Birmingham Childrens as they are our closest amd like GOSH do some amazing specialist work. Dont forget your regional centres in the rish to support childrens health care

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/07/2017 07:30

Yanbu op, good for you.

Most of my charitable donations go to dog rescue charities, but you've inspired me to donate to gosh this month.

BonnesVacances · 08/07/2017 07:37

GOSH have an appalling record for treating and harming children with ME/CFS (now at UCL). Unfortunately its high profile image as the best children's hospital in the UK means that parents put more faith and trust into GOSH than they would their local hospital. So I do think parents need to actually think about what they're doing when they put GOSH on a pedestal and think it's just about what they see in the media with Captain Jack visiting sick children.

At the end of the day it is just an NHS hospital that does the same good and bad work as all children's hospitals do around the country. So whilst I applaud the sentiment of supporting a children's hospital, think about the repercussions of elevating a hospital to god-like status without evaluating what that means to everyone being treated there.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 08/07/2017 07:52

Jeez AIBU really does bring out the worst in people doesn't it? The OP is being pasted for being 'crass', yet posting on S&B about 'oh which £10k bag should I invest in?' is perfectly fine Hmm

Last week before payday I literally had £2 in my purse to last me a week, I'm a LP with 2 small children, but I still don't think the OP was crass

SummerTimeSoon · 08/07/2017 08:02

@MozzchopsThirty it's really nothing like the people knocking on your door asking for donations. Unless the OP was a pop up ad on your screen you willing clicked on the thread about OPs donation to GOSH

LynetteScavo · 08/07/2017 08:02

Which 10K bag shall I invest in? = crass?

Which bag shall I invest in? = not crass

I've donated £50= crass

I've donated, here's a link to do the same if you feel the same as I do = not crass.

It's the mentioning of the amount that is crass, not the action, which is commendable, and would be if it were 50p, or £50,000 as I have no idea if the OPs financial circumstances.

muckypup73 · 08/07/2017 08:05

Well done op, after all the mud slinging at the Gosh deserve as many donations as possible.

WankYouForTheMusic · 08/07/2017 08:37

Anyone who thinks this is crass needs to re-evaluate their understanding of the term, stat. Also, while there are certainly other children's hospitals deserving of support, GOSH is the one that has lost donations this week due to the communal waste of organs that is Charlie's Army. This is an attempt to rectify that, so discussion about Alder Hey et al is missing the point.

2014newme · 08/07/2017 08:40

Hospital are insured for legal fees.

user1490465531 · 08/07/2017 08:47

As much as I'd love to donate to any worthy cause by the time I've paid bills and outgoings I have very little to live on myself but if you can help it's great.
I do tend to pick animal charity's more though.

washinggotdarkedon · 08/07/2017 09:28

Wank - you have chosen your name well, using the word 'stat' as you do

WankYouForTheMusic · 08/07/2017 09:47

What, you think this issue has something to do with masturbating? Or music making?

Or did you just see a word that has some of the same letters as an insult and think oooh, instead of saying anything to actually refute the point I can throw that in there instead?

Cringe.

WomblingThree · 08/07/2017 10:03

Those of you who are bitching because I said mentioning the amount was crass can fuck off. The definition of crass is "lacking intelligence or sensitivity. Now I am not suggesting for a second that OP lacks intelligence, but sensivity? Yes a little. The OP has already graciously accepted my point, so I have no beef with him/her whatsoever.

AIBU is by its definition a question. Am I being unreasonable? Therefore why would you post a thread about this on that board? For "traffic", i.e. so lots of people see how generous you are and pat you on the back and say well done.

This thread could have been just as well served by the Chat board. "Please think about the problems GOSH are having and donate some money". What is wrong with that?

Anotheroneofthese "so what if £50 is a week's wages for some?" Can you really not see why that statement is fucking horrible?

rinabean of course I care about fucking poverty. I've lived in fucking poverty. Unfortunately I don't have time to read every single thread on Mumsnet, and thankfully I haven't seen the one where lots of stuck up rich bitches boast about their London houses. Now you've pointed it out, I will find it and think of some suitably cutting comments?

washinggotdarkedon · 08/07/2017 11:08

I think that by saying 'stat and 'are you on glue' makes you sound like a tosser. I also think your username is awful.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 08/07/2017 11:44

Have serious misgivings about donating to gosh or ant other hi profile hospitals and units dealing with children /cancer or whatever else is flavour of the month in the nhs.
When gosh had their appeal several years ago to replace hospital buildings it obviously attracted loads of donations but at the expense of other children's charities which rely on donations year in and year out. One national charity i support lost thousands of pounds and had to cut dowm on their work.
An nhs hospital should be funded by taxpayers money and not expect other donations at expense of 'proper' charities.
