Aww op that's a lovely gesture

GOSH deserve all the good publicity, they deserve non of the hysterical badmouthing we have recently seen

They will be fine though

Ta1kinPeace · 07/07/2017 20:52

I've never ever in my life had dealings with GOSH
I always thought that they would get enough donations without mine
till now
the onslaught they are facing means that I have opened my wallet.
and I hope that the staff know how most of us feel

Samcro · 07/07/2017 20:53

Yay so your well off talk about a look at me thread

Beingrippedoff · 07/07/2017 20:53

Good on you OP
Ignore the negativity

Gingernaut · 07/07/2017 20:54

Ooh. Snarkers with opinions and bible quotes.

Fuck the lot of you naysayers.

I'll donate too.

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 07/07/2017 20:54

Fair point Wombling.

JeReviens · 07/07/2017 20:54

You did a good thing OP. The negativity may be because £50 is a week's survival for more than a few posters on here and poverty can make one antsy. I may be wrong - maybe they just don't like your not very subtle 'look at me' post. Anyway - you did a good thing. Not a thing I can afford to do.

InfiniteSheldon · 07/07/2017 20:54

Well done OP I shall do the same (not £50 though that would bust us this month but I support the principle)

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 07/07/2017 20:55

oops fair point everyone else who has posted after Wombling. I shouldn't have said the amount I donated.

OP posts:
BabsGanoush · 07/07/2017 20:58

On the back of the other thread I sent a message of support and received a lovely reply within minutes.

I'm sure GOSH would appreciate any financial donation, big or small, or a message of support.

Being 'crass' is criticising those who do consider others.

This, exactly.

And the fucking irony of all those PPs slagging off someone's attempt to drum up support for a superb and unjustly vilified hospital for being 'crass' Hmm

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 07/07/2017 21:20

£394.3m is not a huge amount when you consider that it costs a about £1,200 a day (£438,000 pa) to provide care for a seriously ill child. Add to that the fact they provide free accommodation to a lot of parents and that doesn't stretch far.

Every penny counts and the OP isn't doing a stealth boast ffs.

Onhold · 07/07/2017 21:27

No need to announce your charitable donations. Unless you want loads of well done you posts...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/07/2017 21:29

I'm more of a quiet donator OP and I think your thread isn't really necessary as most people in the UK are not thick-witted and will not let the rabid posturing of social medialites affect the method or the amount they donate.

I don't believe the FB and other social network bletherers are the people who donate anyway. They have lots to say about everything but limited knowledge, if any, what the reality of the situation is. I'm cringing for those people, how embarrassing they are and how pleased at their own ignorance.

I don't think GOSH needs to defend itself, not a bit. Quiet disdain for the vile accusations and I'll keep doing what I do with donating...quietly. :)

spidey66 · 07/07/2017 21:29

I don't agree with charitable donations to GOSH TBH. It prevents the government funding it properly, as sick children always pull at the public's heartstrings. I pay shitloads of taxes and NI to fund it. I'm not complaining-this is why we have a welfare state, and while I don't have kids, I'm more than happy to fund other people's kids being looked afer so they can look after me when I'm old.

GrandDesespoir · 07/07/2017 21:29

No, nothing stealthy about it.

Sorry, I get very irritated by people who feel the need to post "I've donated" or "I've PM'd you", etc. Just do it; there's no need to shout it from the rooftops.

However, I'm probably a GOW and I don't think that was the intention of the OP.

Ta1kinPeace · 07/07/2017 21:29

I've given no amount.
Its none of anybody's business
The important point is that this case has totally changed my view of GOSH

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 21:39

This is why the op started the thread, to try and counter balance the media onslaught like this. If you say that she is stealth boasting, then you have issues more than can be dealt with on here.

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 07/07/2017 21:39

to be honest Spidey I doubt much (if any) of the donations go towards the cost of medical care.

As I said, GOSH provide free accommodation to parents with priority to those with a child in ICU. They also provide accommodation for parents and children accessing day treatments (dialysis etc.) who live outside London.

Improvements and sustaining communal areas to make things more pleasant for families etc. will no doubt benefit from the charitable donations. Play areas for sick children, games, computers etc. make things more bearable for patients and their families. Free coffee, tea, milk etc. in the family areas. The NHS budget doesn't fund the 'little things' that make life easier for families already under extreme emotional and financial stress.

Sallystyle · 07/07/2017 21:44

Very crass.

I do donate to them actually. Wouldn't dream of starting a thread telling you or how much I donate.

We all know what is happening with GOSH and those who want to donate will have done so already.

I think these threads are less about drumming up support and more about getting pats on the back. What MNer isn't aware of what is happening right now?

histinyhandsarefrozen · 07/07/2017 21:47

Blimey, if people think this is boasting, I urge you not to read today's 'what my house is like' thread!

I think it's important to highlight good causes. The clue was in the title...

Sallystyle · 07/07/2017 21:49

We don't need this cause highlighting though.

Who doesn't know what is happening right now? There has been countless threads already about supporting GOSH.

It needs no highlighting.

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 21:53

Hasn't the op been polite to the nasty comments? I have been on here since 2003 and recently name changed, shocked to see the responses from some of my old pals on the SN boards.

5BlueHydrangea · 07/07/2017 21:53

Whilst I agree GOSH do a great job caring for sick children. I have as a nurse witnessed it first hand and also have friends that work there, I do think that they get a lot of money to the detriment of other centres which also do a great job.
Every time you turn round a shop or someone is collecting for GOSH. What about everyone else???

splendidglenda · 07/07/2017 21:58

I agree with the OP who is highlighting a very deserving cause. Great that you've posted this as I'm sure it's prompted others to consider whether they can donate. The negative publicity is so unjust.
