dd1 was taken to a cemetery by the school today, and saw a dead person

I probably wouldnt mind if it was one of my sons, but dd has recently been through a phase of being v scared of death/dead people. She was fairly upset.

why do the school think its ok to take the children out of the blue? I am pretty cross, but there is no point complaining, it is a bavarian school so the only answer they know is "we know best what is good for your child"

Saw a dead person?

How old is she, and how is she feeling now?

Hulababy · 22/03/2007 21:07

How did they manage to see a dead person? Was there no warning about this trip and what they would see? How old is DD?

Seems a very odd school trip.

zephyrcat · 22/03/2007 21:07

TrinityRhino · 22/03/2007 21:09

Nightynight · 22/03/2007 21:09

She is 10. There was no warning. There was a funeral on, and the coffin was opened, apparently.

Spagblog · 22/03/2007 21:10

I thought originally that she "saw a dead person" in a sixth sense sort of way.

Twiglett · 22/03/2007 21:10

an open coffin IN a graveyard

don't be daft

Hulababy · 22/03/2007 21:10

I wouldn't be happy about all this to be honest.

TrinityRhino · 22/03/2007 21:11

is she ok?

why did they go there and I thought schools HAD to tell parents about trips out of school

MamaMaiasaura · 22/03/2007 21:11

why was coffin opened? dont they nail it shut? sorry but am lol at this. lol

Milliways · 22/03/2007 21:12

We live next to a cemetary, and DS used to comment on the "fat ones in there" where there was a new grave with the soil heaped up!!

Nightynight · 22/03/2007 21:12

sorry posts xed.
it was the evangelical religion class.

interesting that others apparently find this disturbing as well, I vented to one German person and was more or less told that death is natural and to get over it.

I think it isnt helpful for dd to see the body of someone that she has never met. It makes the death at once less meaningful and more scary.
