Reducing Spliff Smells

{reposting from Chat for traffic}

I like to smoke some weed when I'm doing really boring things. I have no worries about this but I think my neighbours can smell it which I think is unfair on them. I would rather smoke hash which is less whiffy but it seems unavailable now

Does anyone have any practical recommendations - beyond the obvious 'stop smoking' - so that I can smoke a spliff in my home without fearing the waft factor?

Do you have a garden shed? My ex had one as his smoke shed put in an armchair and lights and just went in there to smoke, it does hotbox it though so be aware of that! A vape pen is the best option though.

ShapelyBingoWing · 09/06/2017 11:14

MN really isn't the place to be asking for help covering up a cannabis addiction.

My neighbours smoke it. We live in flats so I often have the pleasure of having to walk me 3 year old through a communal corridor that stinks of the stuff Angry. OP, you either need to go outside and down wind or you essentially need to smoke it in an airtight room and not open any doors or windows for ages after.

Teddy6767 · 09/06/2017 11:15

Get the febreze 'tobaco' air freshener. I got mine from Asda for about £1.50 and it really helps get rid of the smell of weed.

One of my kids was heartbroken last year when they had to visit a close friend on a locked ward. He was sectioned when his parents couldn't cope anymore and he was sectioned, he has cannabis induced psychosis. Apparently the ward was horrendous, the friend was in a terrible state and his parents distraught, very bright young man and he has ruined his life. I hope he can recover.

How to stop the smell? Stop smoking it and being so anti-social.

FANTINE2 · 09/06/2017 11:54

Vile, Vile, Vile, Vile......................

Amethistle · 09/06/2017 12:13

Smoke it in your bathroom with the window shut and your extractor fan on max. Towel for the gap under the door.

Afterwards, leave extractor fan on and keep door shit for a while afterwards.

Personally, I've always liked the smell of weed. The smell of cigarettes make me heave though.

MissBax · 09/06/2017 12:16

Hahaha did someone seriously compare smoking weed to stealing cars or smoking crack?!

zukiecat · 09/06/2017 12:19

I had never come into contact with any sort of illegal substance until I started working at my local shop

Customers come in reeking and I had to ask other members of staff what the awful smell was, as it was giving me a thumping headache and making me feel sick

Why should I (Or anyone else) be made to feel physically unwell just because of someone else's disgusting drug habit?

And no, I don't drink alcohol or smoke either

RosyGold · 09/06/2017 12:49

Are you smoking indoors or outside?? I like a cheeky J in bed at night, I just fling the windows open and spray like fuck with diluted Zoflora once I'm done Smile if you're smoking outside and it's wafting over fences etc I don't know how you can stop that....but I've seen these little plastic devices that you blow your smoke into so that might help reduce the smell?

Also, make sure you're storing your weed properly, because un-lit bud smells just as potent in the house as actually smoking it does.

nina2b · 09/06/2017 13:14

Ugh. Niiice.

nina2b · 09/06/2017 13:15

You do know it addled your brain, right?

Mn home of "wine o'clock" luckily there are no antisocial links to booze though eh?

Well I think you're being a good neighbour op. I very rarely get the odd smoke op as unlike @Bleurghghghgh I don't know any of the right people. (Whereabouts down south are you? Btw asking for a friend) I wouldn't smoke if I was asked to by a neighbour as I don't want to be an arse. I normally hide down the bottom of the garden in the middle of the night.

IWillCrushYouLikeABug · 09/06/2017 13:29

It makes you repeat yourself Nina! Grin

thetemptationofchocolate · 09/06/2017 13:59

I don't know about weed smells, but many smells can be neutralised by placing a bowl of cat litter (clean, obviously :) ) around the place. If you can get cat litter containing Fuller's earth this works the best.

sorry where did you find out that cannabis is often laced? laced with what? it is "stronger" because of growing techniques and breeding of different plant strains compared to 30 years ago. why would anyone want to lace it with anything? for what purpose?

can i also just add that something being illegal is a stupid argument for not doing something. murder is illegal, is that why you havent killed anyone? because i for one have the moral, ethical and emotional judgement and intelligence to know that killing is wrong, i dont need the law to tell me that. it is illegal to jaywalk in many countries, but we do it here legally. if it became illegal would you suddenly stop because the law says so? the majority would argue no. because you use your judgement and logic to make the decision yourself.

weed can exacerbate underlying mental health conditions (which is why i dont smoke) but so can many other things. lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, stress, trauma, abuse, isolation, bullying amongst other things. it should be up to the individual to decide whether or not to take the risk of worsening mental health. just like it is up to the obese individual to continue without exercise, or healthy eating habits. for every 1 individual who has a mental heath episode, there are thousands whose lives are improved due to cannabis consumption. for chronic pain, depression, anxiety, insomnia, anorexia nervosa, parkinsonism, seizures, IBD, nausea and probably 100s of other conditions.

just because the smell is "offensive" you despise it. there are other means of consumption, which could be more readily explored if decriminalised. i find cigarette smoke disgusting. i cannot stand it. it is responsible for over 6 milliom deaths per year worldwide. but guess what, its ok, because its legal Easter Smile

tiba · 09/06/2017 18:12

Medical grade is controlled.

I've had family with cancer and arthritis who have had much help from cannabis.

The stuff they get prescribed has the TCH removed

The stuff that used to be sold to myself and friends when laced was with LSD.

I'm not spouting off as someone who hasn't experience, I've smoked it myself along with other harder drugs in my youth.
I know what it does, I know the good it can do. I know the bad too.

I also know that these stronger strains you talk about would not be legal in the states which legally sell cannabis. It is a totally different product

tiba · 09/06/2017 18:14

TCH = THC

Winix air purifier £239 from amazon www.amazon.co.uk/WINIX-Purifier-Washable-Carbon-Filter/dp/B011U6W7BM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497028520&sr=8-1&keywords=winix+air+purifier&tag=mumsnetforum-21

I don't like the idea of bothering the neighbors so use one of these.

SuperPug · 09/06/2017 18:26

Currently surrounded by neighbours who smoke this, don't hold down a job where they're going out to work so it's a constant smell and the smell of skunk is gross - it's gone through our entire flat making everything smell of it. It's like a "fuck you" attitude to everyone else and while I appreciate you're trying to reduce the smell, it travels and there's little you can do about this.
There's also a link to a number of health issues, through active and passive smoking. I had constant chest irritation, headaches and disrupted sleep thanks to the idiot who smoked it below us.
The thing is, it's always going to affect someone else unless you're not surrounded by neighbours.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/06/2017 18:28

When you find a way will you let my surrounding neighbours know too please?

It bloody reeks. 😷

user1471486191 · 09/06/2017 18:29

Take a toilet paper roll and stuff in a dryer sheet. Blow your smoke into it. (That's how my sister use to sneak cigarettes).

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/06/2017 18:30

But if you do go outside and wind down with it please do it at the bottom of your garden/as far away from your neighbours as you can. My NDN who also smokes it smokes it in the morning and evening on her back door step. I often go out for ten minutes wind down time after the DCs are in bed and the whiff from the weed always travels over my end. Sad

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 09/06/2017 18:39

two doors down smokes like a chimney in his garden, and the smell of skunk on my washing gives me the boak.

I am going back a loooong time, but I seem to recall using a bong contained the smell better? and exhale out of the window.

MissBax · 09/06/2017 18:47

esk1mo - well.said!!
