Reducing Spliff Smells

{reposting from Chat for traffic}

I like to smoke some weed when I'm doing really boring things. I have no worries about this but I think my neighbours can smell it which I think is unfair on them. I would rather smoke hash which is less whiffy but it seems unavailable now

Does anyone have any practical recommendations - beyond the obvious 'stop smoking' - so that I can smoke a spliff in my home without fearing the waft factor?

Those talking about vaping, can you recommend a low-cost option for a current e-vaper who would like to try vaping CBD oil?

Wingbing · 09/06/2017 19:15

Great post esk1mo

It is unfair to smoke it in large quantities if you have close neighbours.

I like a tiny amount every now and then and it bothers no one.

grannytomine · 09/06/2017 19:39

esk1mo I will tell the mother of the young man on the locked ward. I am sure your words will comfort her.

esk1mo · 09/06/2017 19:43

and? how many people are on the ward who are there for reasons other than cannabis?

anecdotal evidence is not really a strong argument.

GeorgeTheHamster · 09/06/2017 20:03

But its a fact that cannabis fuels mental health issues, not an anecdote.

IWillCrushYouLikeABug · 09/06/2017 20:08

So does alcohol. And I'm sure it's the beginning of far more violent crimes

grannytomine · 09/06/2017 20:28

I haven't been to the ward, but my son has and more than one young person is there because of drug use. In my experience, I have worked in mental health before I retired, there will be people there with conditions they had no way of controlling e.g. bi-polar, self harmers, schizophrenics. The ones who could have prevented it were the ones who had been doing drugs.

Don't take my word for it, educate yourself, there is plenty of information about it.

grannytomine · 09/06/2017 20:31

IWillCrushYouLikeABug, where I worked the number of people in long term care because of drug use vastly outnumbered the ones who had abused alcohol and I think there are probably far more people using alcohol than drugs. I don't use either but then I have no desire to end up sitting in the corner rocking waiting for a carer to wipe my backside so I don't take the chance.

esk1mo · 09/06/2017 21:49

drug use doesnt equate to only cannabis use. there are people in psychiatric wards who have psychosis induced by stressful divorce, or by job loss.

there are people in care homes who slipped and banged their head while drunk.

cannabis isnt the villain that many people percieve it to be. obviously there will be occasions were cannabis use will affect mental health negatively, but there are many other factors that go along with that. if you are going to tar cannabis with that brush then you should view these other variables the same way.

Sycamorewindmills · 09/06/2017 21:57

Cannabis may make you psychotic, it might not. Why would you take the risk?

IWillCrushYouLikeABug · 09/06/2017 21:59

Cannabis use or drug use granny?

IWillCrushYouLikeABug · 09/06/2017 22:03

Sycamore I know loads of people who smoke none of whom are psychotic! I think also with cannabis (or any drug including alcohol) we forget that often the usage was there to treat the mental health issue in the first place. I never smoked as a teenager.

I started after my second baby in my late twenties. Looking back I was hit hard by pnd but didn't have access to medical care and was self medicating. But the mental health issue was there first definitely. I went looking for weed to find something to help me relax as I couldn't get on with drink for some reason that year.

youaredeluded · 09/06/2017 22:18

Try a Mighty Vape. They are great for weed or oil and makes it go a loooooong way. You will save a fortune and also barely any smell and less harmful as no tobacco.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 09/06/2017 22:21

Yes it is unfair on your neighbours. I have to store my children's clothes on the stairs to our attic because their bedrooms stink of weed.

Angelh09 · 10/06/2017 09:08

Grantomine I can"t believe you worked in mental health and would write a post like that!! Glad you never worked in my area thinking that comment would be fine. Im disgusted.

grannytomine · 10/06/2017 10:49

esk1mo the difference is we don't make a decision to fall and hit our heads, we don't get married planning on a stressful divorce or take a new job knowing it might make us psychotic. We know cannabis can induce psychosis, not in everyone but the chance is there and why would you take the chance is you know the risk? If you want to roll the dice and take the chance it is your decision, for me it would never be worth it.

Angel, the truth hurts doesn't it. I wish people would be more honest about what happens, it is tragic that lives are ruined and even more tragic that political correctness means that many, many people don't realise that they are playing a very dangerous game. My kids were well informed of the dangers and I think it is what a responsible person should do.

SteppingOnToes · 10/06/2017 10:51

It smells disgusting - you can't mask the smell

user1496484020 · 10/06/2017 10:53

Try incense?

ddssdd · 10/06/2017 11:06

Sounds like all that weed is making you paranoid Wink

user1485963128 · 10/06/2017 11:12

Everyone here moaning about cannabis when alcohol is much worse in my honest opinion...
At least op is trying to be considerate.

Kpo58 · 10/06/2017 11:39

Alcohol doesn't stink out other peoples houses like cannabis does.

I wonder if it also affects house prices. I wouldn't buy one that stank of weed, either buy current owners or by neighbours.

MusicToMyEars800 · 10/06/2017 11:49

smoke it in the garden?

crazycatgal · 10/06/2017 11:55

Incense doesn't work, my housemate uses it and thinks it covers up the smell, can still smell the weed.

Youremywifenow · 10/06/2017 12:06

Under the cooker hood on full blast, shut the door and should be gone in half an hour.
If you can still smell it when you come back in then burn some toast.

A small size rizla joint really doesn't make much smoke. You'd need to be caning Camberwell carrots all day and night for it to seep through to next door.

Ignore the judgers OP, lots of normal, competent people with professional jobs smoke. I prefer it to wine o'clock or mummy gin which seems to be perfectly acceptable here.

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 10/06/2017 12:21

Have u tried scentsy? I find it masks all kinds of odours Wink
