Reducing Spliff Smells

{reposting from Chat for traffic}

I like to smoke some weed when I'm doing really boring things. I have no worries about this but I think my neighbours can smell it which I think is unfair on them. I would rather smoke hash which is less whiffy but it seems unavailable now

Does anyone have any practical recommendations - beyond the obvious 'stop smoking' - so that I can smoke a spliff in my home without fearing the waft factor?

tiba

It is generally not a good idea to pretend you know what you are talking about when in fact you do not. Having experimented with "hard" drugs when you were younger does not make you knowledgeable.

Two of your statements about cannabis are completely wrong.

Lasagnabreath · 10/06/2017 12:52

Light a candle. I've heard that the flame absorbs the smoke (or something like that) or use one of those electric wax melt things, pretty safe and can be kept on for ages with no fire risk.

Lasagnabreath · 10/06/2017 12:59

Some of you are so judgy. Can't wait for it to be legalised then none of you can say shit lol

PumpkinPiloter · 10/06/2017 13:01

I do not smoke cannabis but my opinion is that cannabis does not cause psychosis.

I believe that cannabis is to psychosis what alcohol is to an anger control problem.

Often it is easier for a parent to blame a drug which is a physical object rather than a hidden illness such as manic depression or schizophrenia. It makes it so much easier to negotiate and understandable to be able to blame a drug rather than such a complex issue as mental health.

Only when we open are minds to both drugs (legal and illegal) and mental health will we truly start making progress on both counts.

I will probably get flamed for this post but having had much experience of both mental health/ cannabis and the psychiatry my thoughts are well researched.

SweetLuck · 10/06/2017 13:06

Seriously, the air purifier I linked to upthread works. If you have it on full and smoke right next to it, all the smoke/smell is filtered straight away. However this is a bit of a faff and is a little loud, so I just have it on low and it means the room is clear of smell before it has time to filter through to next door.

CheeseQueen · 10/06/2017 13:08

Nope. I have smelt it on exercise books handed in for me to mark.

Sad poor kids.

This too. MN shouldn't be the place to come to ask how to hide illegal activity. If you're in the UK this stuff isn't legal.

CheeseQueen · 10/06/2017 13:11

Funny alcohol causes all kinds of health problems but i don't see people jumping up and down about that.

The odd glass of wine or beer/tipple of choice doesn't stick to the clothes of others and force them to breathe in their fumes/have to put up with the vile smell.

Lasagnabreath · 10/06/2017 13:16

Actual research has proven that weed is safe and doesn't affect the brain. It's not recommended to use if you are under the age of 21 because it can affect the development of the brain cells (much like alcohol would) it has so many health benefits and (shock horror) I can look after my kids after a smoke but I couldn't look after my kids after drinking alcohol. Also, if you want to come down quicker just eat a shit load of munchies lol. I think anyone with anorexia should be prescribed weed. Will get rid of that issue for good.

Teddy6767 · 10/06/2017 13:17

After a joint I'm still completely myself, just very relaxed and quite giggly. I can still do any task that needs doing. When I have 2 or more alcoholic drinks I feel tipsy and my personality begins to change.

Teddy6767 · 10/06/2017 13:18

Neither weed or alcohol should be abused, but smoking weed now and again isn't going to turn someone psychotic, just as having the odd drink isn't going to turn someone into an alcoholic!

gillybeanz · 10/06/2017 13:22

Some really stupid comments on here.
Just because you can smell it doesn't make it any worse than the doctors nurses and teachers who take coke or heroin.

Maybe, it's considered as a class thing and weed is associated with the wc or those on benefits.
It isn't the case, plenty of rich well educated professionals have a smoke, too.

CheeseQueen · 10/06/2017 13:22

No, but surely you're aware that smoke absolutely STINKS, whether it be weed or tobacco smoke?
For example, you can tell a smoker in the bus queue next to you just because of the fact they smell so strongly of smoke, however hard they try to cover it up.
In houses smoke clings to curtains, walls, etc. Those on the thread who have weed smoke coming through walls from neighbours and their kids bedrooms smelling of it as a result.... Sad how is that in any way acceptable? That's awful.

CheeseQueen · 10/06/2017 13:25

Why should other people have to breathe it in and have their possessions/homes stinking of the stuff though? How is it right to take away their choice to choose? They shouldn't have to put up with it. Especially kids who definitely have no say in the matter if their bedroom stinks of the stuff according to some on here.

crazycatgal · 10/06/2017 13:26

@Lasagnabreath anorexia is a mental illness, can't believe you said give them weed so they'll get the munchies and it'll work.

Are you ignorant or just plain stupid?

FlouncingInTheRain · 10/06/2017 13:29

Cannabis a few details for those who like to portray its harmless

I used to sit on the fence, didn't like the smell but each to their own. Since being involved with various mental health groups I seem to be more and more aware of links being established with cannabis use leading to significant mental health issues in some people.

CheeseQueen · 10/06/2017 13:31

Just.... there are no words. Jeez.

Wondermoomin · 10/06/2017 13:32

Well if you don't want the problem of the smell, the only real solution is to stop using it. I know that's not the suggestion you wanted.

However, I'm curious... all this effort and worry of covering up the smell, the self consciousness of the impact your habit is having on others... does it not detract somewhat from your enjoyment of it? Does it not make you feel like a sneaky kid rather than a free adult making informed choices? Personally I would feel a bit of a muppet having to go to great lengths to conceal a habit and it would absolutely affect my enjoyment of it. Is there really nothing you could do that would be a better substitute to achieve the same effect of relaxation / boredom alleviation / whatever it is you get from it?

Lasagnabreath · 10/06/2017 13:35

I understand that it is a mental health issue. It has also been used for anorexia patients as they get less worried about the effects of eating and get the munchies so there is more want to eat. I didn't say it's a cure I just said it would help. It's been used in America for anorexics and it has helped. Weed is also good for the likes of depression but maybe not anxiety lol.

It's helped cancer patients to have an appetite as well which is an amazing thing.

It's a plant so why the fuck it's illegal I do not know.

Lasagnabreath · 10/06/2017 13:36

Ok reading back I realised I did basically say it was a cure. I apologise. I've read that it has worked though.

PumpkinPiloter · 10/06/2017 13:38

FlouncingInTheRain

Interesting link, although it does seem to contradict your points to some degree.

I a surprised that the Royal College of Psychiatrists agree with me that there is no such thing as cannabis psychosis.

PumpkinPiloter · 10/06/2017 13:50

I do not understand why everyone thinks Lasagnabreath comments are so out there.

She is right that it is prescribed to cancer sufferers to increase their appetite and counter effect the nausea that chemotherapy causes.

As someone who has first hand experience of how damaging certain prescription drugs can be and how severe the side effects are I hate to think that we could be replacing some of these with cannabis which by all accounts has very few negative side effects.

We need to wake up in this country, start looking at all the scientific evidence and take a more realistic approach to cannabis and other recreational drugs.

MinkowskisButterfly · 10/06/2017 13:55

Stop smoking it, it is disgusting. I regularly have to shut all my back windows and door and keep the toddler from playing out as my next door neighbour smokes it in the garden and drifts over/in - it is vile.

LauraMarling · 10/06/2017 13:56

Vape!

Airizer Air is fantastic Grin

Lasagnabreath · 10/06/2017 14:16

It isn't disgusting to smoke it. Bet half the people taking care of you smoke it. Are they disgusting even though you go to them for help? Don't judge something or someone when you don't and will not know who does it. Don't bite the hand that feeds you so to speak Wink

SweetLuck · 10/06/2017 14:24

Well if you don't want the problem of the smell, the only real solution is to stop using it

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!

Or use an air purifier!!!!
