I bought new knickers yesterday...

Really comfy ones. You know the kind, big, soft and stretchy, unflattering as hell. DP thinks they're hilarious. I quote 'you're wearing acres of knicker'.
AIBU to think men don't realise how lucky they are that ALL men's pants are comfy, save the odd novelty thong?! Don't get me wrong, I like a French knicker and I'm partial to the odd tiny pair of lace pants, but nothing beats the comfort of really big, stretchy pants.

Disclaimer: This is lighthearted. Really.

@NotTheFordType

Crack on but don't come on here to be a dick to women.

CarolsSecretCookieRecipe · 08/06/2017 06:54

Firmly in the big knicker camp me. Also big bra camp whilst we're at it. As in plenty of coverage, no lace, wide straps, comfy n stretchy. Bliss.

Proseccohoho · 08/06/2017 07:07

Thanks Bobbin, have ordered some from Sainsbury's to try. I have one pair of shapewear type from BHS and love them but have worn them to death. Also miss their homewear, especially the lighting section.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 08/06/2017 09:09

laughing at the thought of a man visiting a prostitute because of the type of knicker his partner wears. No, he's visiting a prostitute because he's a snivelling, lying cheater.

I'm another fan of M&S knicker, I think the midi ones, 100% cotton. And am so glad my DH doesn't actually give a damn what I have on because he's more interested in getting it offGrin. He wouldn't care if I was wearing pants up to my armpits. (Actually that sound quite comfy, everything encased and snuggled)

morningconstitutional2017 · 08/06/2017 09:14

I prefer comfort any day - Sloggi do it for me although I know there are detractors. I wouldn't spend £7 on a tiny strip of fabric that wasn't comfy.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 08/06/2017 09:16

I always remember years ago a man (not my boyfriend, just one of the crowd) confided to me,
"Us blokes hate those bikini briefs you all wear most of the time."

Newsflash...men vary in their tastes of what underwear they find sexy on women. Some love thongs, some hate them. Some seem rather obsessed in their preferences, others don't care at all what we wear. I wear thongs because I find them more comfortable than other styles. If a partner says he prefers big pants then fine, I shall put them on occasionally as a treat for him. But on a day to day level I shall continue wearing the pants I prefer, just as many PPs here do.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 08/06/2017 09:19

I have a very hungry arse that eats up an unlimited amount of fabric, so cute boy shorts or any sort of big pant ends up entirely bunched up my crack and bug the absolute fuck out of me. Thongs are an complete godsend to me and I wear nothing else, I cannot feel anything there, it is like they are invisible.
Yes to "hungry arse". I have one of those, it's like the bloody Cookie monster! I even bought some boyshorts that were recommended on here after I particularly asked for non-slipping pants and even they slip! I love them but they really irritate me because they move. As you say, the thong doesn't; it goes there, it stays there, I can't feel it at all. Bliss. As I said upthread, they take a little while to become "invisible", but that's exactly how it was when I started wearing bras (uncomfortable at first, now don't feel them on).

Thongs = thrush + UTI, surely?!
I suspect that depends on many factors such as whether you wash after a poo, whether you have "leakage", an individual's anatomy and particular microbiota...

My dd is 16 and wears mens boxers (the stretchier cotton ones, not the woven ones)
I'm very tempted to give them a go. Do they stay on the thigh like they're supposed to because the boyshorts I've tried tend to ride up the leg?

Why are you taking as gospel something one bloke told you years ago? Confused. I think most women's reaction to what he said, would be "what a wanker"

CottonSock · 08/06/2017 09:25

I've just switched to ladies boxers. Far more sensible

^ This.

I don't understand the 'my DP/DH/ex/stranger on the street hates thongs'. Congrats, I'm sure there are many men who dislike thongs and many who like them. Surely it's like anything else, something that suits your body won't necessarily suit someone else, including thongs vs big knickers.

I find the idea of trying to shame some women on their underwear choices because of what a man has told you he thinks quite bizarre really.

29Palms · 08/06/2017 10:07

Bollocks and Woods, it was just an anecdote FFS. An insight into someone else's perceptions.

It surprised me at the time which is why I have always remembered it.
I thought there was no harm in sharing it.
He was a very cool guy as it happens, not a wanker.

29Palms · 08/06/2017 10:10

And as for you, hazeydays, no need to be so nasty.
Like I said, it was just an anecdote.

BertieBotts · 08/06/2017 11:11

I like the mixed colour multipacks in M&S. If you do want all one colour they often sell these in white or black. I like the variety.

La Senza used to do pick and mix pants.

Oldraver · 08/06/2017 12:19

Lots of womens knickers including Sloggis, are made with horrible zigzaggy type of elastic, which for those of us with sensitive skins irritate like fuck.

I have yet to see a pair of mens pants with this tortuous elastic

IfNot · 08/06/2017 12:44

I do like a tanga knicker, the proper ones, with narrow sides & a full bum, but they're very difficult to get hold of lately.

YES!!! Tanga are the best kind and they seem to have disappeared!
I have a big arse and quite a flat stomach ( for my age) and while belly warmers are comfy they seem to bunch around the tum and add bulk. Boyshorts look OK but my bum gobbles them up.
I can't wear the microfibre big pants and spend ages looking for nice cotton knickers with a lot of bum coverage but narrow at the sides.
Also, why can't cotton drawers be made a bit sexier? They are either sporty, super plain or cutesy. I'd like a nice cut and nice colours, maybe a bit of lace trim, without having to resort to polyester!
French knickers in silk are without doubt the sexiest.
I spend too much time thinking about pants..Blush

BobbinThreadbare123 · 08/06/2017 18:41

It also depends on how you like to wear your tights. If, like me, you like tights to come up to your bra, you need big knickers under them so they don't start sneaking down.

Also don't get me started on the excellent knickers I have bought in the past which were RUINED by a bad label. I do have ASD though which comes with some not insignificant sensory issues.

ThreeForAPound · 08/06/2017 18:53

I ran out of clean belly warmers today and had to raid my 'sexy' never ever wear them and some lacy frilly thongy pairs are about a decade old collection. It was hideous.

MrsChopper · 08/06/2017 19:51

I have loads of different types of undercrackers including thongs and ones without VPL. But I love my big comfy knickers.

DP couldn't care less what I wear as long as I feel good. But he does think of thongs as arse floss!

Thingsgettingstranger · 08/06/2017 20:39

Bollocks dd said they stay on the thighs fine as long as they're a good fit, but don't wear super skinny jeans with them Grin

In all fairness I've nicked DHs boxers a few times and they're so comfy (especially with trackies and a baggy hoodie Smile)

KentMum2008 · 08/06/2017 21:09

If your husband/partner/wife/lover has any negative opinion about the type of underwear you choose to wear, that's their issue. And for someone to suggest men resort to using prostitues because their wives wear big knickers is fucking ludicrous.

I started this thread because I thought it was funny that DP found my big knickers hilarious. He didn't say they looked hideous, or that he wouldn't shag me if I was wearing them. He just laughed, much like I laughed when he bought new pants that say 'Urban Boyz' around the waist band. I ripped the shit out of him for them. He's 43, and the least 'Urban' boy in the whole of the south east. He counteracted this later in the day when we were talking about going camping. 'Don't need to buy a tent, we'll take those big knickers of yours'.
I'm still gonna buy him a man thong and watch the discomfort on his face when he wears it for 3 minutes because that's all he'll be able to tolerate

I’m Male and wear thongs daily and agree men’s thongs are more comfortable than women’s!

thegcatsmother · 26/04/2020 18:19

I am also searching for comfortable cotton rich cycle short type pants for summer under dresses to stop chub rub. I bought these last year and they are very comfortable www.thebigbloomerscompany.co.uk/products/anti-chafing-seamless-with-lace

caramac04 · 26/04/2020 18:25

I’ve just ordered some womens boxers as I’m sick of knickers wedging in my arse. I’ve not got a big bum and considered thongs (a small amount of fabric in between cheeks rather than a big piece) but my fat belly means I need high waisted ones. They’re a bit pricey when I’m not sure I will like them.

steff13 · 26/04/2020 18:28

The OP's underwear has probably seen better days, considering this thread is 3 years old. 🙄
