WH officials say Pres. Trump is going to emphasize he does not view the West is at war with Islam during trip, @margbrennan reports

hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Seriously??? Does he think they've literally all been living under rocks?

Likely he does. He thinks none of them are civilised and has tv or anything. FFS>

I revised & went deeper on Mueller special counsel explainer. I see a LOT of potential for conflict w/ Trump DOJ. www.nytimes.com/2017/05/17/us/politics/special-counsel-in-russia-investigation-raises-stakes-for-trump.html

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 14:02

Have you noticed, though, that there's much more tendency, now, to refer to him as a 'special prosecutor'?

SenecaFalls · 19/05/2017 14:13

he can't eat lamb and rice???

Most Americans don't eat lamb. It's not unusual at all.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/05/2017 14:31

And I hope that 'unofficial' trend continues cozie

Fact finding mission = counsel
Criminal investigation = prosecutor

I feel very confident that they'll find Trump et al colluded with Russia. BUT I don't have the same confidence that anything will be done about it wrt Trump. I think the GOP majority Senate and House are going to spin out, debate, and cross-examine the final report until it's too late to impeach before the 2020 election. They still see Trump as their stooge and the easiest way to get their pro-business, anti-environment agenda across. Pence isn't as stupid or as malleable as Trump. AND he's more rabidly conservative wrt 'social issues' (choice, civil/women's rights, etc) than the majority of the GOP are. I think the MOST we can hope for (as we've been hoping all along) is that that 2018 election puts a Dem majority in the Senate and/or the House. But even then, the new members aren't sworn in until 1/2019. Give them a few months to 'organize' and actually get a vote on starting impeachment you're talking say, June. A committee must pass the articles, then to the Senate to hold a trial and vote.

No, I'm afraid barring a finding of actual treason, we're stuck with Trump. The best we can hope for is 2018 bringing in a DEM majority and that anything the wants to do is basically 'nullified' because the GOP members won't want to be 'tainted' by association.

Anthony Weiner pleads guilty to sexting a minor today. A nice distraction for the Republicans.

@HuffPost Senator Lindsey Graham believes the FBI’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election has become a "criminal investigation."

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but why do most Americans not eat lamb?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/05/2017 15:05

What do Americans do with their sheep then, other than felt bits of knitting?

SenecaFalls · 19/05/2017 15:09

Golondrina

Supposedly the aversion to lamb in the US can be traced to World War II when so many American soldiers and airmen served overseas and were fed not-so-young-and-tasty mutton. When they came home, they didn't want to see another sheep product again. My dad was one of these. He said that it was all "lamb, ram, sheep, and mutton" and he never wanted to see it again. I did eventually learn to like lamb. But I am in the minority. Americans consume an average of 1 lb. lamb per person annually compared to 61 lbs of beef.

But I would say that it is very much a cultural thing so that anyone planning to serve an American lamb should ask first if they like it.

I'm not sure whether this has been posted previously but this the itinerary for his trip

Very few sheep in the US.

We have never had lamb at home because DH does not like it. Happy to say, that is the only thing he has in common with Donald Trump.

GingerIvy · 19/05/2017 15:24

Seneca I'm American, so I'm aware of that. But it's not like he couldn't try it. And rice is pretty basic.

There's such a thing as being a good host, but also such a thing as being a good guest. Somehow I suspect he's not going to be a very good guest. He's used to staying in his own hotels - I wonder how staying in other hotels will go over.

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 15:33

When is the second CBO analysis due out?

Possible re-vote in House

Lweji · 19/05/2017 15:37

Does that mean that there's a possibility it will be rejected this time?

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 15:49

But Yes. In theory.

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 15:50

The contents of the CBO report would be crucial, I think.

Natsku · 19/05/2017 15:53

Mutton is so different to lamb though - people need to know the difference! (That said, I had mutton korma today and it was delicious)

Really feels like we're close to something now, something explosive (in a good way)

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 15:55

I reckon, myself, that this could all go on for some time. It emphasises the criticality of the mid-terms I think.

Getting ready for my big foreign trip. Will be strongly protecting American interests - that's what I like to do!

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 15:59

I should imagine, Natsku, that any meat available commonly available in WWII could well be pretty scraggy.

cozietoesie · 19/05/2017 15:59

Ignore that superfluous 'available'.

Has he gone to Saudi yet? I'm really not keeping up these days. A day without ww3 breaking out is a good day in my book.
