Everyone: It's a SPECIAL PROSECUTOR!

Don't say special COUNSEL ever again—That's a GOP tactic to make it look better.

In theory he could president by skype. :)

Lweji · 18/05/2017 15:25

Yes, I used the verb to president. Wink

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/05/2017 15:25

I'm not sure what would happen then Naice.

Incidentally, I think deleting the tweets might be in violation of the Presidential Records Act.

People sometimes forget that 'corruption' doesn't need to be blatant - doesn't need to be a case of 'Take these $$$$ and do 'X' in return'. It can be ......insidious.

If, for example, you knew someone who had had you round for dinner, provided the odd shoulder to cry on, lent you some money - even if you had a binding repayment agreement - then how much would you be prepared to favour them in normal dealings as opposed to someone you didn't know so well?

Because they'd be a ............friend. Wink A 'regular guy'.

ayyylmao · 18/05/2017 15:45

Cozie, that's called manipulation..

Well it's early days on the trading floor yet but yesterday is starting to look like a market correction right enough.

Do you think if people keep talking about Pence taking over the presidency Trump will start trying to find a way to fire him or take Pence down with him?

Conservatives begin to whisper: President Pence

AcrossthePond55 · 18/05/2017 16:15

Good Grief!!!! All the good shit happens when I'm off the grid!!! We're back in town for the day as we're having to have one of the old beautiful trees on our property taken down. A branch fell during the last wind and revealed that it's pretty much dead inside (like Trump) and needs to be removed as it's dangerous and may seriously hurt or kill someone (also like Trump). Joking aside, I hate to see a tree come down. Especially one that's been standing for 100 years. But I'm determined we WILL plant a new tree in its place.

I'm off to update myself by reading back through the thread!

AndHoldTheBun · 18/05/2017 16:32

Ah, it's sad to lose a favourite tree Across. We had similar happen to the beautiful (enormous) beech tree and the entrance to our property. The tree was one of the reasons we bought this place.
We had it sectioned up for firewood, for our wood burner, and it's kept us warm for several winters but we are getting down to the dregs now.

It's replacement is still a spindly 10ft, I'm sure it'll look great in about 40-50 years Smile

Whenloveandcake on Obama... oh yes... of course... and then there was the time he put his feet up on the desk in the Oval Office! Deffo impeachable!

On the news he's contemplating less Spicey pressers... and shaking up his communications team... well, it won't make a blind bit of difference. You can't polish a turd and leaks will increase.

am sort of thinking I shouldn't have the words 'turd' and 'leaks' in the same sentence Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 18/05/2017 17:09

It's really great to have all the salient points/links posted in this thread! Thanks to all of you so devoted to keeping us all 'in the loop'.

DH heard on the radio that the person who wrote Trump's Art of the Deal believes that if it gets too hot that Trump will resign in a huff in the same way he's abandoned projects that weren't going his way. His motivation being setting them up to fail before he goes combined with his huge ego being unable to take the fact that the people he considers his 'minions' are actually daring to tell the truth/oppose him. In a way, I think I can see him being like that. The difference is that in this case he won't be able to basically 'slink away' relatively quietly (because his blown deals didn't really make much news) whilst telling lies and filing (or settling) lawsuits as he goes. This time he'd be shamed before the entire world because everyone would know that he was quitting to avoid being impeached (i.e. quitting in shame). I don't know if his ego will permit that or if it will force him to fight to the bitter end.

I think we're going to see many 'hatches being battened'. Information gathered by the Special Counsel's Office (SCO) will NOT be leaked. I think the SCO will likely be 'in touch' with other potential leak sources and will tell them to 'stifle it' so as not to jeopardize the investigation or tip off potential subjects suspects.

I think we're going to see Trump's 'minions' also retreat and pull up the drawbridge. That's why we're seeing interviews and pressers being cancelled and previously vocal people now saying 'no comment'. Whether or not they can keep the 'Tweeter-in-Chief' quiet is another thing. He's his own worst enemy. (Thank God!)

AcrossthePond55 · 18/05/2017 17:16

AndHold. I'd like to plant a Jacaranda or a pink Lapacho tree. But I have a feeling we're not in the right 'zone' for it.

We want something we can enjoy for the next few years we're here, as we'd like to downsize soon, as well as for generations to come.

ChooChooLaverne · 18/05/2017 17:20

I can't believe how much has happened this week - I've finally caught up with you. Phew. Thank you for continuing to post all the latest updates.

I've got a question if anyone can answer it?

Someone posted before about voting for Trump because he was less awful than Hillary Clinton, which is a view I've heard before. Personally I can't imagine how she could be any worse. Would someone be able to explain why she is so hated?

I didn't follow US politics very closely in the past and all the vitriol against her in the election campaign surprised me. Is it because of something she actually did? I'd understand it maybe if she'd forced the country into a war that the majority of the public were against (thinking Tony Blair here).
