Trump's handling of classified info brings new chaos to White House
‘It never stops,’ one White House official after reports emerged about Trump disclosing highly sensitive information to the Russians.

"It never stops," one White House official said via text message Monday night. "Basically chaos at all times."

Via text message. As this story is breaking tonight

lionheart · 16/05/2017 01:08

They are, erm, confused, cozie.

Washington Post was careful to remove any details that would breach national security from their report. The irony.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 01:14

Just so. They behaved appropriately. Given the circumstances.

lionheart · 16/05/2017 01:14

From the Politico report:

A former senior Defense Department official in the George W. Bush administration emailed, simply, "WTF!!!!!!!"

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 01:16

I doubt there's anyone in his IC that would trust him now. I mean really trust him.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 01:18

I can see it now. They're going to force staffers to relinquish phones etc.

lionheart · 16/05/2017 01:22

Someone who has sat in on Codeword intelligence briefings has just said on CNN that everyone is 'read in' before they are told the info and 'read out' afterwards so they are in no doubt they cannot repeat what they hear. The classification is so high because lives are at stake (including undercover sources).

PerkingFaintly · 16/05/2017 01:30

I suppose there is the tiny possibility that the Washington Post have been trolled, haven't checked their sources, and the story has been planted because to be damaging to intelligence-sharing between the Five-eyes.

lionheart · 16/05/2017 01:32

This is quick off the mark but also measured:

TheClaws · 16/05/2017 01:33

Breitbart is trying desperately to spin it as a 'Deep State' conspiracy. Their version is the story has the Deep State leaking "Highly Classified Info to Washington Post to Smear President Trump". From the comments, some supporters do absolutely believe this (!!) while others are stopping to think a bit.

lionheart · 16/05/2017 01:39

They can revert back to 'Find the Leak' and 'Blame the Press.'

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 01:43

Thanks lion. I'm going to have to read that 'quick off the mark' carefully but I was struck myself by how carefully those statements were worded. Smile

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 01:49

I wonder how Israel are going to view this after their apparently cavalier treatment by the WH?

lionheart · 16/05/2017 02:11

Trumpsters calling it 'fake news' because two of the people who were there said it didn't happen. They want to know the two sources (US officials) who are saying it it true.

cozietoesie · 16/05/2017 02:23

I'm sure they do. Smile

WaPo's Greg Miller - who broke story - says on CNN WH is "playing word games." Says McMaster denied actions they didn't actually report

Fox News: "Trump's pledge to police"

Ted Lieu @tedlieu
Dear @realDonaldTrump: WaPo followed your advice & looked into the leaking of highly classified information. Turns out the leaker is you.

Lweji · 16/05/2017 06:27

I go earlier to bed and all he'll breaks lose.

It's less of a "news cycle" these days and more of that BSG episode where the Cylons attack every 33 minutes.

That's because they elected President that delightful Baltar. So apt.

Roussette · 16/05/2017 07:17

I'm sure they are all sworn in and sworn out when hearing classified information but POTUS cannot resist can he.... he has to show off and talk about his good 'intel' to the Ruskies.
I bet he was a horrible child showing off to his friends and always having the bigger better toy.

I can't believe I didn't see it before. If Trump was colluding with Russia for reasons unknown, it would make TOTAL SENSE to do it in front of the world and leak information with multiple witnesses in the room

Whatever you think of DT ayylmao you can't deny the man has no self control. (just look at his frequent twitter storms). He won't be approaching a meeting having read briefings and knowing what to say. He has admitted he won't read them so his Aides have to put it in bullet points but he doesn't even read that. This is the most serious charge against a sitting POTUS. No smoke without fire. He cannot be trusted with the gravest responsibilities that comes with his job and he should be removed for incompetence and incapability to do it.

The WH can deny all they like but it is on record that once the meeting was over, calls were made to intelligence chiefs to limit the damage after DT had blabbed.

This could cost lives. Allies already are not sharing information with the US because of him. To be honest, the US are losing all credibility.

This sums it up...
Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said sardonically Monday: "Can we have a crisis-free day? That's all I'm asking."

"We’ve got this perverse situation in which the vast analytic powers of the entire world are being spent trying to understand a guy whose thoughts are often just six fireflies beeping randomly in a jar."

And apparently the author of the piece is a conservative commentator!

Roussette · 16/05/2017 07:58

Trump's remarkably quiet on Twitter. I was waiting for FAKE NEWS!!! but nothing.

Apparently although there are denials, they are obtuse. He might not have revealed the method (hence the denial) but he has revealed the IS controlled city where the plot was first detected. This info came from an unnamed US ally and the Russians can work out the source.

Only a few days and DT is off to Saudi, Italy, Israel... I'm wondering if it will still go ahead given he can't keep his gob shut.
