Sorry to derail thread but wonder if anyone can answer a question for me.
I am in the uk and was chatting to a trump supporter last night here on holiday.
So first thing, is it true that a lot of people voted for trump to get a conservative judge.
That H Clinton agreees with abortion to nearly full term.
That Obama care only benefits minorities.
.Was trying to discuss / refute without falling out -bit tricky when you have had a lot of wine but I think I was listening to some alternative facts.

Try talking about the Affordable Care Act, rather than Obamacare, as it seems a fair number of Americans don't know these are the same thing (per vox pop by TV co asking people on the street).

I don't have figures to hand (and your interlocutor may not respond to them anyway), but IIRC Michael Moore's film Sicko predominantly features white Americans, including working man (carpenter?) who lost his fingers in a saw accident and had to chose which to have reattached, because he couldn't afford to have them all.

Sorry, should have explained better. Sicko is a documentary about US health care.

It was made in 2007, so some parts are now out of date (I gather some of the tricks used by insurance companies are now illegal) but other parts aren't, and the film addresses the difficulty of getting insurance and consequences of not having it.

I hope the settlement on the laundering case meant they got access to further more important material.

The film Sicko is still up to date in the sense that's what GOP would want to return to.
That's the scenario people in the US could easily go back to. Or worse.

2bees ACA benefits anyone who needs it, particularly those with pre-existing conditions or those who would not be covered by other insurance. In fact the republicans have voted to allow themselves to keep ACA while they remove those benefits for everyone else (www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/5/4/15547120/ahca-congress-exemption-passes) so one would assume that it in fact even benefits the well off. I do believe that one of the GOP who voted for repeal of ACA did so with a lump after coming straight from a leg op paid for through ACA.

I would also point out to these people that benefiting minorities should not be considered a bad thing

As for your other points. I know HC believe in a woman's right to choose. I don't know the details of what her thoughts are on limits, but I suspect that your Americans are anti-choice so the details probably don't matter. They will dislike anyone who feels that a woman should get to decide what happens with her own body.

Possibly people did vote for Trump for a right wing judge, they go it and they got a currupt psychopath to go with it. I hope they think it was worth it.

2bees I know a number of people who benefit from ACA, many of them are not minorities.

The SNL cold open made me laugh a couple times out loud. The comment about letting Kelly out of her crypt made me snort with laughter (I shouldn't have, but couldn't help it). And the comment about having the GOP in the palm of his hand was a very good swipe at the complicit GOP in Congress. The "I sit like I'm on the toilet" is actually something I've noticed before and wondered about.
