I posted elsewhere earlier, I have heard people on my council estate (s wales) saying they will be voting Tory.

It's not really a surprise when we (Wales overall) voted for brexit despite recieving so much in EU funding.

I'm wary of commenting too much though, as I honesty wonder who democracy works for now. It certainly isn't the people who vote against their own interests like this.

I don't understand what's happening. I mean, first the Welsh vote was something like 55/45 for leaving the EU, now this poll.

Oh GOD. Honestly, I give up. It's turkeys voting for Christmas, Thanksgiving and an all you can eat turkey buffet.

Well Labour were the party of Wales and Wales got nowhere under them either so maybe they are trying another tactic. Or maybe they are voting Conservative because they are the only ones that look strong enough to run the Government. I have been a Labour voter all my life and I am struggling with my conscience on this one. Part of me would rather eat a horse before voting Tory, the other part cannot see another person/party strong enough.

I'm not a labour voter, but I'm wary of chancing that my relatively safe mp doesn't get back in, so considering voting tactically for the first time in my life.

Ah, yes, Wales where Tories Thatcher and Major decimated the coal industry, Wales that voted against the EU that funded all the new schemes and jobs, and Wales that has hardly any farming to benefit from EU farming subsidies?

I am sure they know what they are doing.

Oh FFS! You get so much funding from the E.U.? Do you? Do you realise we pay them more then they give us back? Don't you realise that without our money, when we finally stop funding them then the E.U. will collapse? Don't you think that all the money we are sending them would be better spend here?

Don't you think our fishing industry would be hugely better off out of the E.U. and that it would be a good thing to not have to throw excess fish back into the ocean? hhmmm? Don't you?

I'm quite sure TM said she will not be giving us anywhere near what the EU has.

Well, IF we can trade enough to still have that money, without a tariff free Europe to trade with, and IF the government choose to put that money into Wales....

I think it will take things to become obviously rubbish for the economy plus an overhaul of the Labour Party (most immediately its leadership) for the tide to turn. The Tories seem to be very good at telling everyone they're doing a simply wonderful job and being believed.

I wouldn't dismiss the Welsh vote as stupid - it shows a lack of respect and understanding of the issues. There were clearly reasons why the Welsh voted that way, and reasons why they will cast their votes a certain way in the upcoming election. Understanding those reasons is crucial.

I am not Welsh and have no connection with Wales so can't comment but someone from Wales may be along soon to enlighten us.

You do realise that we, the U.K. survived quite well before the E.U. which was the 'Economic Union' which unfortunately became the European Union? Have you any grasp of the history of Britain and the U.K? Get a backbone and hope to aspire to be British! It is just as well you didn't have to go through the Blitz in WWII. Who would you blame then, when you couldn't get meat? Bananas? Oranges? What would you do? Throw a hissy fit or get a stiff upper lip and get on with it? I think I know. :(

I don't have an opinion on the fisheries, there are pros and cons to both sides.

We had a steel industry, a coal industry, a wide range of manufacturing. Textiles, bicycles, cars....

And we traded on equal terms with our closest neighbours.

This is nothing to do with an ability to endure the Blitz or how British you feel, this is an objective look at our economy.

Soul without a tariff free Europe to trade with One would hope that the EU realises that tariffs will harm them too.

I'm Welsh, I own property in Wales and I will be voting Tory as will most of the people I know.

If we're doing a history lesson, it's weird to miss out that it started as the EEC.

I'm sick of comments like this and I'm not even a Brexiteer! the money that Wales got could have gone straight to Wales, it didn't have to go from the UK to the EU to Wales.

This depends on where you live. I can't remember the exact figures but (aprox) in terms of infrastructure London gets £5k per head whereas Newcastle for example gets only £200. Loads of jobs in the North East especially for young people depend on EU funding and that money, whether it started off as ours or not, is not going to suddenly end up back in that area if it doesn't go via the EU first
