To refuse freecyclers because they don't say please?

That really.
I've put a few offers on there. Nothing hugely exciting. I said on the ads that I'll pick a name tomorrow.
Husband thinks I'm being OTT by automatically deleting the replies that just say "I'll have this" or "put me in the hat" etc., in other words, no please or thank you.
My personal favourite so far, who husband agrees will be deleted is "I will collect this 2day. Give me ur addy. I 2 busey 2 wait. I will collect them al. Carl".
I'm not being unreasonable to expect a few manners when I'm going out of my way to pass on some stuff I could easily sell, am I?
I feel sad that my first AIBU is so boring!

YANBU.

Yanbu. Manners cost nothing.

unless you really want rid of it.
i agree

longlostpal · 17/04/2017 11:49

Carl's message is rude, but in general I do think you're a bit U. It feels a bit weird to me to expect people to think you're doing them a favour -- if you prefer to sell, then sell.

NormaSmuff · 17/04/2017 11:49

manners maketh man

harderandharder2breathe · 17/04/2017 11:51

Yanbu

"Can I have this please?" Takes five seconds

AlternativeTentacle · 17/04/2017 11:51

I've been doing the same for years. Been freecycling for around 12 years and only ever given to people who are polite.

monkeywithacowface · 17/04/2017 11:52

I would ignore people without any manners but not sure I understand why you need to do the whole "name in a hat" thing. Surely just give to the first person who politely asks for it and can come get it?

You do sound a little bit like you want a medal for giving away items. If you want to make some money and sell them go for it; no biggie or pass on to a charity shop if you want to do a good deed.

caoraich · 17/04/2017 11:52

Yanbu. I do the same. The worst are the ones who don't say please and demand to come get it at a particular (inevitably inconvenient) time. Or ask you to deliver it to them! You're getting something for free, pal.
My usual response is a curt "sorry it's already gone" but to the particularly rude I am guilty of replying saying that I've given it to someone whose message was more polite Blush

TheWitTank · 17/04/2017 11:52

YANBU. How hard is it to type please or thank you at the end of a message?

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/04/2017 11:53

They would annoy me too.

Nairsmellsbad · 17/04/2017 11:54

Of course you're doing them a favour. One of the things I like about freecycle is that you can choose who you give things to and I'd also choose polite over rude. YADNBU

KC225 · 17/04/2017 11:57

Set yourself up as a superhero with manners as your power. It is sorely needed in this world

megletthesecond · 17/04/2017 11:58

Yanbu. I was selective when I used to freecycle.

MovingtoParadise · 17/04/2017 12:02

It's 'may I have this please'.

Anyone who says this makes me get excited in my grammar knickers and gets the item Grin

Babbaganush · 17/04/2017 12:05

I do the same! Manners cost nothing.

Trills · 17/04/2017 12:08

You can refuse freecyclers for any reason you wish

You are giving away your thing. You get to pick.

Don't be an arse about it or mess people around or make them jump through hoops, but be as picky as you like.

neonrainbow · 17/04/2017 12:09

I can't abide people who piss around going "may not go to the first person/ names out of a hat." Just give it to the first person who asks nicely and stop wasting people's time.

Trills · 17/04/2017 12:10

Name in a hat is for people who think that giving away their thing is a big deal and who will feel guilty if they are not fair.

QueenArseClangers · 17/04/2017 12:12

Unless 'Carl' is after a dictionary that you're Frecycling. Then he desperately needs to get it!

AmysTiara · 17/04/2017 12:13

YANBU I do this too.

Some people are so rude.

LemonSqueezy0 · 17/04/2017 12:13

YANBU
the "name in the hat" means it's fairer, and not the same person who is always online getting the items as they are first off the mark.

littleme2017 · 17/04/2017 12:14

YADNBU - manners cost nothing, its not hard to say 'please may I have this'. I only used free cycle twice but ended up removing the ads and giving the items to charity instead due to how people asked.
