To report racism to employer?

I have an acquaintance from school on fb who, in light of the terror attack yesterday, has taken to posting disgusting things about how Muslims aren't human beings, 'I think we all know the solution to the problem', you can't be British as well as being a Muslim, etc etc etc.
She works for the NHS, and to me it's worrying that someone with views like that is caring for vulnerable and unwell people, especially given that at some point in her career I'm sure she will come across Muslim patients. AIBU to report her?

I wouldn't. She's a bigot but I wouldnt call it racist. People spout a lot of shit in words but don't tend to put anything into action.

Maybe delete her from your Facebook though if she's upsetting you.

YABU. You don't work with her and she's posting in her own time on FB, not on a work site. She's entitled to her own opinion even if you don't like it. Just delete her or ignore it. Just because she posts it on FB doesn't mean she's going to say it to someone at work that she treats!

I'd report her. What an arse. Particularly as she's employed in healthcare. If she honestly believes that some people are subhuman because of their religious beliefs, I can't see how this is not going to affect her work and the level of care she offers people. If she doesn't even realise she's being offensive she has serious people problems and could do with - at the very least- some fucking diversity and sensitivity training.

Yes fair enough it's her own time and in a personal capacity - but calling people subhuman for their religion, and advocating for what is basically 'ethnic cleansing is acceptable just because it's 'her opinion'?
id be interested to know people's thoughts on hate preachers - they're speaking in a personal capacity, should their opinions be allowed to go unchecked?

Also, whatever her opinions may be, she's an idiot if she thinks she can post whatever she likes on the internet and it won't get back to her employers, who may take a view on whether or not they want her representing their organisation. People have such bizarre ideas of what 'privacy' they're entitled to when they willingly broadcast things (whether that's drunken selfies or racist diatribes) on social media.

No. We live in a free democracy and she is as entitled as anyone to have her own opinions, no matter how abhorrent you may find them. As long as she doesn't bring these opinion in to work and let them affect her decisions there, then that's fine.

It's also fine for you to not like it; just unfriend her.

I would screen shot and report. In an ideal world people wouldn't bring their own personal convictions into their work, but you cannot guarantee that's the case, especially in healthcare. The NHS is a contentious subject and add to that vulnerable patients whose health & wellbeing may be effected by attitudes towards them as unequal or unworthy (Sub-human even, ugh!) in some way.

I've had nursing from a person who has judged and decided against me before (though not on religious grounds, another type of minority), whilst I was very poorly in hospital. It's terribly upsetting and very scary as you are so vulnerable, and utterly dependent on health care professionals. So if there's even a sma chance this person would follow their own stated beliefs in a hospital or health care setting, then you need to pass this on to someone who can decide what to do to protect patients against this.

Also even if this person has 'just' got carried away by the hate following yesterday's attack, they should know to moderate their language and views on social media, and keep within their workplace guidelines on this.

Were not talking about hate preachers though we're talking about some barely known random you have on your Facebook (why?) and want to go on a mission to get her in trouble with her employers.

You should tell your friends list that you are policing them and will report them for any bigotry you see so they can make a choice on whether to keep you around. Yanno own your shit (like hate preachers who don't hide) Then you can report to your hearts content.

gamer I don't think anyone needs to be told that anyone is 'policing' them. It's social media, and the public domain. don't post things if you don't want the risk of them getting back to your employer. You wouldn't go into the street and start shouting it, so why is it ok to do it on the internet?

Assuming you have a work policy on acceptable use of social media - and you probably will - then she's in breach of her employment conditions and yanbu. If she doesn't want to abide by those rules, she should find another job.

Screenshot it, so you have evidence. Also the section where you asked her to take it down, and she refused, to show you tried alternative approaches.

If she is a HCP, there will be a social media policy where she works and I strongly suspect this will have breached that, so yes, I would report her.

I'd like to know if a healthcare worker, who had my life in their hands, considered me to be subhuman because, for example, I was a Christian, or a Jew, or an atheist - and felt bold enough in this conviction that they were willing to put their name to it on the internet. I'd thank you for reporting this, particularly if it saved me or any of my friends from being quietly euthanised by some unhinged nurse on a patriotic mission to Take her Country Back.

YANBU. Having your views is one thing. You can think what you like, but. You can't write what you like on social media knowing that your words are likely to upset some people.
Most Muslims are as devestated as we are over these atrocities. Just as most Catholics were devastated over the killings by the IRA.
However, I think nieve to call her racist. You do get British Muslims and my dad knows an Asian Catholic.
