To report racism to employer?

I have an acquaintance from school on fb who, in light of the terror attack yesterday, has taken to posting disgusting things about how Muslims aren't human beings, 'I think we all know the solution to the problem', you can't be British as well as being a Muslim, etc etc etc.
She works for the NHS, and to me it's worrying that someone with views like that is caring for vulnerable and unwell people, especially given that at some point in her career I'm sure she will come across Muslim patients. AIBU to report her?

Not sure, unconventional.
Maybe something to do with all the cunts genuinely believing that non-white people are subhuman.

Spreading hate has consequences. Screenshot and report her to her employer.

GreenPeppers · 23/03/2017 09:41

What sort of position does she have on the NHS and more importantly, is she in regular contact with the public?
If she is, then yes I would report.

And yes if I was her, I would be much more careful or airing my view in public and thinking that I am entitled to say what I think.
Freedom of speech doesn't mean you are allowed to treat some people as 'subhumans' at all. This is going into hate speech and racism (esp as she is stupid enough to think that all Muslims are also foreigners that should be sent back home...)
Is her profile set on private or can anyone read it?

LouKout · 23/03/2017 09:41

hear hear.

LouKout · 23/03/2017 09:41

at the very least she should get some training to enable her to do her job properly.

StrawberryMummy90 · 23/03/2017 09:41

Some of these posts are disgusting! Wonder if you would be A-ok with someone spouting this bile against Christians? Hmm thought not. You would probably be telling OP to report to the police!

OP please, please make sure you flag this up with her employer. It is not fair for vulnerable patients to potentially be exposed to this. I can't imagine anyone having such strong views about a religious minority and not even slightly showing their true feelings towards them. Please report!

BlueStockingUK · 23/03/2017 09:44

Always challenge racism!!
Some of these replies are a bit bonkers!
Yes, it's an opinion.
Her opinions are unacceptable, of course it will affect her judgement when dealing with muslims, either overtly or covertly.
She is of course entitled to her opinion, she has chosen to express it over social media, You then have the right to your opinion and report her hate crime. It is a crime.

UnconventionalWarfare · 23/03/2017 09:47

So did she say all none white people or all muslims? Or do white muslims not count?

DoIDareDisturbTheUniverse · 23/03/2017 09:49

Unconventional you're being purposely obtuse. You know full well that when people like this air their opinions, it's not aimed at white people.
FWIW, later in the rant 'Asians' were mentioned.

OP posts:
blankmind · 23/03/2017 09:49

Just ask her (on fb) if her employers have a social media policy.

That should do the trick, it insinuates that anyone reading her diatribes could report her but makes it a bit less confrontational with you.

MakeJam · 23/03/2017 09:56

Report. Totally unacceptable.

RainbowJack · 23/03/2017 09:58

Please report.

I knew someone who was treated badly because of views like this. It's truly awful when you're in a vulnerable position and there's nothing you can do about it.

rattieofcarcassone · 23/03/2017 10:00

I would screenshot and report anything like this. They may be her views but if she genuinely feels that way she bloody shouldn't be working with the general public and I'd be concerned that she wasn't providing care at a good quality to people who didn't fit her idea of human.

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 23/03/2017 10:12

YANBU. She is free to post her opinion and with that comes the consequences of doing so, which may include someone bringing it to the attention of her employer.

I would and have done this - I reported a stranger who had commented in quite vile discriminatory terms about people with a certain medical condition on an article, whose profile showed that he was employed by the NHS as a support worker for people with this condition! I took screenshots and sent an email to the relevant department, and they apparently took it seriously and investigated it, based on their response to me.

x2boys · 23/03/2017 10:23

Do you know which hospital and which department she works for because otherwise i,m not sure what good reporting would do for example i worked for a mental health trust it was vast covering several towns [and getting larger] it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack trying to locate a single employee and then trawl through their facebook .

Joey7t8 · 23/03/2017 10:23

Apart from my beliefs regarding extrem political views being Voltairian - 'I don’t agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.' etc. - it is worth bearing in mind that sacking an employee for such views is contrary to UK employment law.

They would only be able to sack her if she demonstrates such views in the work place to the extent of discrimination against non-whites. She is however perfectly entitled to have and air her views in a non work environment. It's free speech.

WatchingFromTheWings · 23/03/2017 10:26

If she honestly believes that some people are subhuman because of their religious beliefs, I can't see how this is not going to affect her work and the level of care she offers people.

^ This.

I'd take screen shots and forward it to her boss. People like this should not be in a position where they are likely to end up treating the very people she considers 'sub human'.

LoriD · 23/03/2017 10:28

She could lose her job if you report her. Everyone here is quick to jump on the tell the boss bandwagon but there's a bigger picture.

I would pull her up on it since it annoys you so much or would you rather hide behind her employer. It seems to really bother you so man up and speak to her about it

DoIDareDisturbTheUniverse · 23/03/2017 10:30

Have done LoriD as mentioned up thread. Have since deleted her and can still see the status so evidently it's set to public.

OP posts:
Meekonsandwich · 23/03/2017 10:31

Ohhh I'd be willing to bet theres something in her work contract especially as it's the nhs , that they are representing the nhs and therefore anything they post on social media is under scrutiny. It was in all of my contracts, it was vague (posting something in appropriate or.something that brings the company into disrepute on social media) but you could definitely be fired for it.

hellejuice91 · 23/03/2017 10:31

I would report her. I remember being friends with someone on Facebook who kept making homophobic comments. He worked in a hotel so I called the hotel and reported it. If it had been one I would have let it go but there were too many to ignore.

StrawberryMummy90 · 23/03/2017 10:39

Lori would you care as much about her losing her job if she was treating a family member of yours who she believes is so beneath her they aren't even human? Who wants to get rid of your family member permanently?

x2boys · 23/03/2017 10:40

Who exactly would you report it too? Having worked in the NHS for years nobody has just one boss there will be middle mangement, senior managers etc and thats just for one small department going right up to the chief executive if you just phone up and say i would like to report one of your employees you need to know exactly where she works and who she reportsy directly too so it can be investigated properly otherwise there will be vague emails and messages that never get passed on and it will be a pointless exercise for you.

BeaderBird · 23/03/2017 10:41

Of course you shouldn't report her. That's life changing and cowardly. Tell her the views are disgusting and unacceptable.

You won't bother though.

DoIDareDisturbTheUniverse · 23/03/2017 10:43

Already have told her that Beader, if you bothered to RTFT. Smile
