Work forgot my birthday

I realise this is completely a non-problem!

None of my work colleagues have remembered it's my birthday.

The standard 'thing' here on a birthday is that everyone signs a joint card, and there's a whip round, and everybody goes for lunch/has cake.

Nobody has remembered. Nobody. I've been here 6 years ffs. All the birthdays are in the company diary.

I'm not a special snowflake who wanted a massive hoopla for 'My Special Day' - just a little disappointed - AIBU??

Maybe stay optimistic, and consider they are saving it for the end of the work day as a surprise!?

If not then come Monday I'd make them feel guilty, by discreetly stating you celebrated your birthday at the weekend - as you were working Friday on your actual birthday!

Everyone deserves unlimited cake on their birthday!

YANBU. That's rubbish given that they do it for everyone's birthday it's totally crap they missed yours!

Just think of all the money you will save not having to contribute to birthday collections anymore

If its the "done thing" then no you are not being unreasonable. Have you not mentioned your birthday at all this week?

I would start a conversation about what everyone is doing over the weekend and mention that you are celebrating your birthday. See what happens.

Next time you're asked for money for a birthday collection just say 'oh i thought we'd stopped those' I'd mention loudly about your birthday plans later

I'm just peeved as they're also planning a hoopla for someone else's semi-significant birthday - whole office off for the afternoon/pub/meal/presents etc etc . Mine is a semi-significant one too, but no-one even realised. It's a small office - only 10 of us, which makes it worse.

Ironically I've been feeling fairly isolated at work anyway - this cements it I guess!! I think I'm 'the weird one'

Who normally organises everything, do you take it in turns or is it one specific person ?. (Maybe they don`t like you and this is deliberate)

I`m guessing lunch has been missed considering the time. I would have a shit fit tbh.

However, I much prefer the system we have at work where on our birthdays we bring in the cake/treats (if we wish). I think it would all get a bit much having to sign cards and have a whip round for everyone's birthday (unless it was a very special one). There is 20 of us though, maybe it would be ok with 10 but even then...

I would take in cake tomorrow for everyone and start a new tradition (if you want to).

Like others have said - have you actually mentioned it? If it was my birthday today my colleagues would have heard about it at least once every day this week

very occasionally someone gets overlooked, maybe they just joined and birthday not in calendar but we either whip one round very quick OR start an email birthday thread for everyone to send them a happy gif.

We do a card here and birthday person. If my birthday was forgotten I wouldn't get them cake and have a nice one at home. I always get the day off. I worked once on the day and hated it.

In offices I've worked in the birthday person brings in cakes for everyone. Next year a couple of days before your birthday say you plan on bringing some in for your birthday of anyone had any requests.

It's not nice but it's work and you aren't there to celebrate birthdays. Nobody at work knows when it is my birthday, I don't see the point - I'm there to do a job and nothing else.

I'd say significant birthdays are children's age birthdays then either 18 or 21 (choose one), 50 and 65.

A semi significant birthday would be 30, 40, 60 for me.

I'm sure you do feel left out.
I would have to say something, and I wouldn't be contributing to others anymore.
