Do most people secretly hate weddings?

It seems on here a lot of people say they don't like weddings and find them boring. I'm wedding planning- would appreciate knowing any particularly awful things to avoid. If you hate weddings then why and what could make them better?

Ours is an all day affair (well starts at 12) is fairly traditional but in our home town so not too many people traveling.

Most people do have a good time at a wedding as long as they are fed & watered

As long as you feed your guests enough you will be fine. Worst weddings are when this is scrimped on.

Make sure there is some sort of entertainment between wedding breakfast and evening.

If you are starting at 12 it is going to be a looooooonnng day

I bloody love weddings. I'm lame and I don't care

So do most of my friends. Generally they are uptight enough to represent a MN contingent but they expect no free booze or anything above the minimum of food. They are also lovely. This is why I consider them friends

Just make sure people are fed and watered. My pet peeve is ages spent standing around somewhere while photos etc are happening elsewhere.

The problem with all day weddings is the bit between the vows and the evening reception. It just drags.

Make sure your guests have access to a stream of food and fizz and it'll be fine.

I think the main bugbear is guests being left for 4+ hours with no food or drink while endless photos are done. If you've got canapés and champers going during the boring gaps everyone should be happy.

I love weddings. I get all teary eyed at the all the hope and optimism.

I love a good wedding! Lots of food, A decent stocked bar, something to dance too and i am happy as are most others at a wedding tbh

I've been to brilliant weddings and I've been to terrible weddings. I've also turned down wedding invitations which would have been too expensive/inconvenient/annoying to attend.

A lot depends on the organisation of the day and how much consideration has been given to the guests.

I love weddings. I love weddings with poems, I love weddings requesting money, I love any kind of wedding. They're fun and happy days. With drama thrown in sometimes as well if you're lucky, or unlucky, depending on what happens.

Plenty of food, plenty places to sit down and plenty of bar staff.

I don't care about the theme or the decor. As long as I can dance and drink and catch up with friends.

Oh and I'm leaving the dc at home so I can enjoy myself, okay?

I've never been to a wedding I haven't enjoyed.

I love a wedding if it is in a venue where I can book a room so I can go and get 5 minutes peace and regroup from time to time but then I am a terrible introvert.

I LOVE weddings!

Generally speaking you get to dress up a bit, watch two people you care for pronounce their love for each other, have a lovely meal that you don't have to cook or wash up, get a bit pissed, often have a good boogie, catch up with friends and family and stay over in a nice hotel.

What's not to like?!

I bloody love weddings. My favourite ones were both very different from each other. One was a very low key, laid back affair. A beautiful church service followed by BBQ food and games outside in the sun. The other one was more traditional at a very swanky venue with Michelin stars. Gorgeous food, beautiful setting and very romantic. I've been to loads of lovely weddings but those ones stand out

I've only been to one bad wedding and that very predictably ended in divorce less than 2 years later. It was crap because it was evident that neither the bride nor the groom gave a single fuck about the day. No care had gone into anything and the entire day felt very much like a ploy to extract some money from the guests. It was just a big lairy piss up and the police were called at one point. It was so wierd. Kind of like being on a stag do.

Worst bits for me would have to be freezing cold church or lots of standing around.

I love weddings! But yeah food and drink are key. I'll never forget the wedding where we stood in a freezing courtyard in the drizzle in our wedding finery as the main reception room wasn't ready, and the bride and groom were having pics done elsewhere. I think there was meant to be canapés and drink- but I think I ended up with a sad cocktail sausage and a glass of warm Buck's Fizz and that was it.

I like weddings but not the hanging about. Urgh.

They always cost plenty to attend, even with the most considerate of hosts.

I love a wedding as well. Agree with the others, don't leave everyone hanging around whilst you get your photos done. That's always shit. Drinks and canapés and make sure they are warm and comfy , with some music and it's all good,

Drinks
Something to entertain. Long periods of stood around is not entertainment. Current favs are photo booths, table games, a band... Something fo do in the 'tween time.
'Kid free' weddings are not an opportunity for parents to 'relax and enjoy themselves' because it is a fucking nightmare finding childcare for that length of time. I had a family member say they thought id have a family member to look after mine when suprised my husband couldnt also attend. Er, they're all here! At this family wedding!
